It's "essential" that you skip this nail salon. I should have listened to the poor reviews but was hoping to find a good nail salon close to my home so that I could resume regular manicures. I left my previous salon after my favorite manicurist retired and there was no one else I liked there. Hoping for the best, I went into Essential for a regular manicure and immediately saw a dirty floor, bad lighting and rather unfriendly staff. I'm not expecting a hug and kiss, but the manicurist never made eye contact or said anything except "you have dry skin!" She rushed through the prep phase and barely touched my "very dry" cuticles. I asked for square shaped nails. Manicurist BARELY filed my nails -- a child could have done better. I asked her to refile a few of my nails on both hands because the nails after she finished filing were uneven in length! Plus when I got home, I saw that a couple of my nails were filed crooked!?!! After the refiling, my manicurist left me to attend to another customer and the boss lady finished my manicure. Afterwards at the drying station, I experienced a 30 second shoulder "massage" which was like a pat on the back-- ridiculous. I guess I've been spoiled in all my years at my previous salon. Absolutely love this place. Initially, it was a rocky start in terms of customer service but they came around and were exceptionally nice. I have been going to Essentials for about 7 years. I love everyone there! It doesn't matter who does my gel fill-in because they all do a beautiful job! They are always so sweet and take very good care of me. Mae, MC and Jess are my go to's because I know them well but if they aren't available I am always confident that my nails will look good by anyone who does them. Essentials is a bit more expensive than other nail salons in town. But I spend the extra money knowing I can go about 3 to even 4 weeks until I need a fill-in without any chipping or breaking! read more

This nail salon is VERY CLEAN which is great! My pedicure is holding up well. I paid for the callous remover pedicure because I needed it and while the manicurist was friendly & polite she could have done a better job with the remover. My feet don't feel any softer, they actually have this odd dry cracky feeling to them. Days later when I took my black socks off the soles of my feet were tinged black so I had to pumice them myself in the shower. I thought I just had a pedicure?? I even reiterated on the phone that I wanted a somewhat difficult design & was told yes & bring a photo which I did. I arrived & was sat with whoever was available & told no we cannot do that design after showing my photo. I decided to stay anyway because I was due for a fill in. They did a crappy beginner job on my fill in & left lumps and bumps in the polish. Everything costs extra and all they care about is money. Very disappointed. The couple of times I have been here I feel like the lady in the front is very snobby and unwelcoming. They repeated 3x that the gel pedicare and regular manicure will cost me $75. I kept telling them I know and they repeated it again 2 more times as if I didnt hear them. I felt like I was being judged as if I can't afford the price. Made me feel uncomfortable. And when another costumer came in, well dressed, she got better welcoming, friendlier service. I went to get a pedicure and the lady filed and painted my toes before my feet hit the water. She made me soak my feet and get the callous remover etc after she painted my toes with the gel paint. I thought that was backwards. I never had any nail tech do it like that before. I also showed them a picture of how I wanted my nails. I just wanted butterflies but the lady just shooed me away with the picture and said no. She didn't even make an effort to even see what it really consist of. They don't do designs here at this location. It's just standard and one of the boring salons. They don't have a lot of powder sns choices to choose from. They also don't match fingernails colors to feet colors. They also demand tips. I don't think they like black people when I walked in she questioned me about having an appt which I did. But she then holds me there and takes the next lady and the one after her who weren't black and points them to a technician but I had to still get questioned and I'm standing there looking at my name in the appt book where her finger was. Then when I was done with my toes they kept talking like as if none of them wanted to do my nails and so they had to debate it for a while and there was so many of them free with no customer. Then they finally made me sit down. I'm not going to come back here again. I mean for the most part I do like the way the lady did my fingernails but the one who did my toes didn't even fill the polish in right. Smfh. read more

I have been looking for a decent pedicure place for a long time now. I am very judgemental when it comes to pedicures. I get really grossed out when places aren't clean. I watch were the files are taken from, how they clean the tubs, if their tools are sanitary. Plus customer service is very important. I walked in without and appointment. I was greeted immediately and asked to pick a color. It was very clean and welcoming. I was helped into the pedicure chair. Usually I am on my phone texting or emailing while I get my pedicure. This time I had no choice but to actually relax. Another nail tech came over with a hot towel and wiped my hands. Then they placed my hands in a bag of parrafin. This shocked me since I wasn't getting a manicure. So I was forced to lay back and enjoy my pedicure. And it was a great pedicure! It annoys me when not enough time or pressure is spent massaging the feet. I'm on my feet all day so they tend to really ache. My nail tech had perfect pressure and my feet felt awesome by the end of the pedicure. I can't wait to go back for my next pedicure. This will be my nail place from now on!! read more

My gf and i have had a few nail nightmares in a row now, so we took her co workers recommendation and nervously came here. We both don't like trying new things but were welcomed quickly and left extremely happy. I'm not as nitpicky as my gf is but they met even her very high expectations. I got my eyebrows waxed and a regular gel manicure the gel mani was $30 and the quality is great. I dye hair for a living so i like to keep my nails black with my ring finger a festive color, otherwise the dye will stain my nails and having them in water all day regular polish doesn't last. The previous salon i went to gave me some diluted excuse for black which looked like mud. This is shiny and pigmented perfectly. They have all new high tech equipment and i couldnt have imagined it to be decorated more beautifully. My brows came out great too. My gf needed a french set and they gave her exactly what she wanted. At dinner we both couldnt stop looking at our nails. We will return for sure. read more

Third time = No Charm! Yes, this place is decorated adorably and according to pictures on yelp there are some manicures that look pretty, however, that does not make up for the rudeness of the staff. Perhaps the negativity one feels upon entering makes all feel grumpy??? Today I witnessed the manager (?) argue with two women just minutes apart about their appointment day and time. Both sides were completely loud and nasty! In addition, the workers talk amongst themselves in a tone that sounds ominous at best. I know I generally have a bone to pick with the "service" industry but shouldn't we expect better from those whom we entrust to perform these services? I didn't catch the name of the young lady who did my acrylic set but I came in with destroyed, paper thin nails from recent work at other salons and I left with beautiful, natural looking nails. Went here for years. I witnessed the manager being nasty to a child. The mother called the manager out on it and she gave her a gift certificate. The manager was rude to me too but after 5pm on a Monday after work, I didn't want to start any problems. My mom recently started doing her own nails cause she was tired of how rude and nasty they were too us. I'm searching for a new salon. They used to be the best but now they're horrible. read more

Truly a horrible nail place. Yeah okay it's in a nice area of Long Island but I can't stress how money hungry the owner is and his nail techs. Also let me mention that they are overly priced and over rated. The only positive thing I can say is that the interior is cute.. So, I used to go here to get my normal acrylic nail sets and at first it was okay but then I told my mother how wonderful this place was and that she should get her first acrylic set here because I assumed she would enjoy them and be satisfied with their service. Well once we do get there and have our nails done this nail tech whom is Asian with blonde hair always in a pony tail does my moms nails and everything was fine once our nails were done. Then, my mother accidentally smudged her nails under their overly crowded nail drying area. The owner instantly gives her a nasty attitude and glare and quickly paints her nail and then proceeds to finish his clients nails. Anyways, we finish our nails and we start to pay and I get money out to tip our nail techs. Then, this owner comes over and tells me to tip his nail tech over $10 dollars claiming that I wasn't giving her enough. I simply explain to him that I tip how much I want to, and that it goes by if I WAS SATISFIED with my service here, it doesn't go by how much money HE wants. So then he takes my debit card and I watch how much money he charges me as he's typing it in because I don't trust them, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting over charged. After this, we tip them and then my mother and I leave and as we leave we see this incredibly idiotic owner give us a dirty look as we are walking out. My mother takes that to notice and try's to contain herself. Now here's the problem, the same day my mothers nails are having a painful burning sensation, my mothers fingers start swelling and she can barely move them. I just assume the nail tech over filed her nails and now she's feeling the aftermath of that. So I tell my mom this and I say just give it a few days the pain should lower down, put some ice on it and I'm sure you'll get used to them and feel better soon. We do this, and a week goes by and she's still got the pain. It gets to the point where she wants to have her acrylics removed. Her nails start lifting and she starts to get afraid of having an infection. Clearly we know this nail tech was the cause of this problem, and we do want to go back to the salon to complain. But there's no point because they wouldn't do anything about it regardless. One of my mothers finger starts to turn just a tad bit blue. So we go to a different salon and they properly remove my mothers nails and inform her that whomever did her nails was careless and did damage her nails. Let me tell you my mother and I are furious with this place. My mother did her nails in AUGUST and it is now JANUARY and her nails are still suffering from this, they are incredibly weak and they break. She's taking care of them but still whatever that nail tech did she really messed up my moms nails. After that I knew to never go to this place again. I was referred here by a friend of mine whom receives wonderful service there but we received otherwise. The nail techs here are just straight up rude and unprofessional following the owner. If you are not white with a ton of money believe me these materialistic asians in this salon will HATE you. read more

I just moved into the area and I was looking for a decent nail salon. I decided to try Essential Nail Spa. I walk into the "spa", asked for a mani/pedi and was asked to pick out a color. I am standing by the doorway looking at the colors and I was sprayed with the water hose from the pedicure station. The salon was packed, the customers looked up with horror, and I was mortified. I placed the bottle of nail polish back on the shelf and walked out! Safe to say I will not be going back to this disaster of a nail "spa". Think I'm being harsh because of a careless error? Never again! The nail techs are incredibly rude!!! They rushed through both manicure and pedicure and when I told the girl that she missed half of one of my toe nail with the polish she got annoyed and tried to fix it but she still missed a good portion of it. When I got home I realized that there was nail polish all over my feet so I had to take nail polish remover and clean my feet off. I also had waxing done there which once again was rushed and done so poorly that I had to come home and pluck myself to get everything that she missed. I am so upset that I spent so much money there only to have to come home and correct all the mistakes that were made. If you're going to be rude at least do your job right. After going from nail salon to nail salon in the area to find a place I was happy with I finally found Essential Nail Spa and have been going there ever since. I can usually walk in without an appointment. On occasion I may have to wait a short while. Every time I have been there no matter who does my nails I am very happy with the result. Staff is always friendly. the salon is very clean, unlike the 15.99 nail salon across the street. Won't go anywhere else to get my nails done. kind of pricey, but so worth it!
