I came on here because I inadvertently saw this business listed as three stars...I was taken aback because this place is THE BEST. Then I realized all of these reviews were from 10 - 12 years ago!?!? Looking at the most "recent" one from 4 years ago, boggled my mind. I really thought they must have had the wrong place in mind. So I decided to set things straight and give an updated review. I had been searching for months for a new nail place b/c my tech whom had gone to exclusively for over 15 years moved to CA. No one really "got" my nails like her. And she was super quick. In and out with gel nails in 45 min and they lasted way longer than two weeks! I saw Yumi's when getting coffee and decided to give it a try b/c it was close to work. I will never go anywhere else. They have a lifelong customer. Immediately I knew they were special. Friendly and skilled, showing real care to everyone. And the service and results are just as spot on as my old nail tech which is my highest recommendation. Make no mistake: this place is great. Clean, never have been refused an appointment when I wanted it, doesn't feel crowded even when it is, never feel rushed, a walk-in having to wait more than 10 minutes is rare, experienced techs, impeccable work and every single person working there is nice. Lin is wonderful and she always watches to make sure people are getting what they ask for and helps if a tech is unsure. My little girl has some disabilities and they are so kind to her, giving her VIP treatment. Makes her feel like a princess. The location I go to is across from the Stonybrook train station, has a Dunkin' Donuts next door. This is such a cute place in the hood! Its a pretty big nail salon, I'd say there are at least 10 Pedi Spa seats. I like to come here for a Mans pedi ($20) and then go to Starbucks next door. The service to me has been on target. I walk in, ask for a mens pedi and am seated pretty quickly. All of the instruments I saw were opened out of a sealed bag that was under UV light. I usually have to tell them twice to cut my nails short! They'll cut it and leave a little extra. They also opened a small shop in East Setauket but I still like coming here. :) read more

I had an appointment for a gel mani scheduled @ 5p. Yes, I did show up a few minutes late and I was told I had to wait since I had not shown up on time. There is a reason for that-this place is so busy (which is a good thing)! I had waited around 30 minutes, but I was finally seen by Kathy. She was definitely worth the wait. She did a great job w/my nails. Quick and thorough. She even suggested a different color for me since she had seen the colors I had picked. I didn't realize that the 2 color didn't go together...She has a great personality and sense of humor, it is much more relaxing than absolutely no conversation at all! I've been to yumis before and have received above adequate treatment. One of my good friends always goes here and highly recommends their gel and tips. I noticed that this place is very clean, which is why I decided to go here to get a gel manicure done. I asked for shellac manicure because I heard the removal process is easier and overall, it is less damaging to your nails as opposed to other gel brands. The nail salon lady used the shellac color I wanted but used the Gellish brand for the base and top coat (completely defeating the purpose of choosing shellac). The nail salon lady barely said a word and pretended I wasn't even there - which I don't mind, you're there to do you job not be my best friend. She barely cut the dead skin around my cuticles. And barely made an effort to file them and make the shapes all even. But what was most horrifying was that I got this manicure done on Sunday and by Thurs OF THE SAME WEEK, the nail Polish started lifting from my nails. By the next day, Friday, the gel had started to chip and peel off. What's the point of a gel manicure if it only lasts 4 to 5 days?! It's supposed to last 2 weeks! The salon lady did not even bother to seal the edges of my nail with top coat, which I'm not sure is part of their salon tactic to bring customers back sooner. They need to reconsider this tactic because this will make me never come back. I paid 25$ for the gel and 20$ for a pedicure (which was the only thing that went right). I also tipped very very well. Relied on yelp for a good nail place in an area I was unfamiliar with. We had an appointment for 2; it was Mother's Day and they tried to separate us after I requested to be together when I made the appointment. They sat us down for manicures first and I told them three times I needed to soak off my gel; then acted like they didn't know(and I said it in my reservation) they kept talking to one another in another language and talked to us in english which is so rude and they all could speak english. Worst part was my moms nails were highly infected. Check out the photo I uploaded a week later. They were rude and made us feel weird. Definitely would not recommend or go back. What? Why am I the first to review/add this business!? This is madnessssss. Its okay though, because Yumi's might as well be my nail salon forever, perhaps even after I graduate (okay maybe that's an exaggeration but I wish I could forever go here). The service here is impeccable, they are so nice and professional. Their pedicure chairs are awesome & very clean. Also, the quality of their work obviously shows (their mani/pedis last pretty long). I actually LOVE it here, I don't even know how to express my love. Basically, they get the job done. ALSO, they have so much business that they're expanding! (near the Stony Brook LIRR stop, right next to the newly opened Dunkin Donuts, so convenient for me and other Stony Brook students since its walkable WOOHOOO!!) so CLEARLY they know what they're doing & they're doing it right! I do think it's a little pricey... but I'm not the kind of girl who would accept spending too much money on a mani/pedi as easily as another would, so if you're okay with that then go for it! I go to Yumi's all the time for eyebrow waxing though, I think their prices for that are pretty average, and they're really good! I love this place. It's clean, the equipments and techniques are very much up to date and the service is always impeccable. The price is not bad at all. I have paid a whole lot more in NYC where the level of service doesn't compare. This nail place usually has no wait when I go (versus the Yumi's on 25A Setauket). The instruments look clean (come out of a sterilization packet). Pedicure is $20, but they have other fancier pedicures. The standard pedicure comes with a nice hand calf massage, followed by a quick hot stone massage as well. read more

I have to say I disagree with the other reviews. I went in with my boyfriend who I was treating to a pedicure and I was just getting a manicure. I told the woman just one manicure and one pedicure. A few minutes into my manicure, I looked over at my boyfriend and saw he was getting a manicure too. I thought maybe they give a complimentary manicure with pedicures? But when it was time to pay I realized that was no courtesy. I give the review 2 stars only because the service wasn't bad, it was just extremely overpriced. $30 for a manicure/pedicure combo is ridiculous. Most places have specials which I've seen as low as $15. My final suggestion? Save your money, go somewhere else and you'll be just as satisfied. read more

I give this one star due to the nice girl that helped me when I walked in. Otherwise it was terrible. Adam was my tech and when I asked him to fix a few things he said he would . Well when he was almost done he still hadn't he got very annoyed and a little abusive when I asked him to fix my nails. Had some residual polish left from last time he forcibly took my hand and proceed to talk in another language to the guy next to him clearly about me wanting the job done right . Service is always pleasant and quick. Prices are reasonable. Two things to note: 1. They don't actually sterilize their equipment, although signs posted claim surgical sterilization. Techs wash and/or wipe tools and re-seal them in the pouches. Giving the illusion of sterilization. 2. They don't have a clue about reflexology, although offered on their pedicure menu. I did uv gel mani there, when I did it, I found two of my fingers has several bubbles in it, I ask my tech Sophia to redo it, but the bubbles still exist after the second time. What's worse, the nail tip falls down after only one week. I will never be there again. read more

I think they do the best manicures in town, however, they are pricey. I go there frequently for waxing, and their performance is inconsistent. I've had really good jobs done, and really terrible ones too. They need to work on consistency for their waxing. It seems like the people who work there are different every time. I also had an employee outright ask me for a tip (I was going to tip them), but I thought that asking was impolite... It made me want to tip less. read more

I really do believe that this is a nail salon that goes above and beyond a regular treatment to make you feel like you are having a relaxing experience even if you are just getting your nails done. The staff is always pleasant and helpful, even if their English is a bit limited. The place is spotless and clean. It smells fresh and I always feel like I am entering a luxury spa. They give wonderful manicures and pedicures and the 10 minutes massages are better then some that I spend a lot more on in other places. I understand that they have expanded to Stony Brook and also a foot relaxation center. I'm going to look into that too. Not great. Although I've been here a number of times tonight was my last for sure! They used to be great when they first opened, but it seems the honeymoon is over. I was rushed to pick out my color, my pedicure was quick and not relaxing at all. My manicure was the WORST though! She took all of two minutes on my nails before attempting to paint them. When I asked her to please clean under my nails before painting she did so really annoyed. For the price -- whic is higher than most around -- I'll drive an extra 5 minutes to go to Barbie or Diva nails in St James. They're also about $3 less for a manicure and pedicure and really do a better job...it's just always so busy and the wait is about 10-15 minutes. NEVER going here again!! I was a loyal customer, using the same gel color every single 2 weeks. As it was running out I asked the owner/manager to reorder it for me. He put it in a cabinet behind the desk to be forgotten about & shooed off my nail tech. After a month of asking for my specific color I sat for an extra 30 min to have this clumpy dead polish redone over & over. The next time I went I was told by the obnoxious loud woman who speaks decent English that there was one more use out of the bottle - I refused to go through the same thing, put my innocent nail tech who gave the best massages through it again & was upset with the lack of customer service (especially since I'm a loyal well tipping customer). I was then told the color was discontinued. 20 seconds later on Amazon I miraculously found the NON discontinued color. I am appalled at their lies & bad business. I bought my own bottle & will bring it to any other nail salon except Yumi's in Stony Brook. read more
