Homestead Bakery is a gem, no doubt. The thing about their food is this: no matter what you order,…read moreit's going to be made well. You really can't go wrong on that front. Case in point--the turf bagel. I love it so much that sometimes it's hard for me to order anything else. Drinks are a mixed bag for me. Their matcha (hot or iced) is solid, but I always need to sweeten it. The limeade was too bitter for my taste, and the rickey-style drink didn't quite hit my sweetness preference either. Chai (both hot and iced) is nice, but definitely add vanilla. Next on my list to try? The grilled cheese. I've been coming here for years, and the space is not big, but when it gets packed -- good luck. There are barstools facing the window and smaller tables throughout, but navigating the space can be tricky, so I wouldn't call it fully accessible. Still, the atmosphere makes up for a lot--it's got that community café element that I personally love. Overall, Homestead is the kind of place you want to experience for yourself: come for the food (which will always deliver), try the drinks with your own preferences in mind, and soak in the sense of community.

We had a matcha smoothie, which had a sweet, strong matcha flavor - my favorite. We also had a mango smoothie, which was very refreshing. For food, we tried a bubble waffle, which was topped with strawberries and vanilla wafers. So delicious!!

Sweet Sip definitely met our expectations that day. I got the dark and stormy milk tea which came with honey boba. It was interesting to see that you could add free toppings to your milk tea which you rarely see elsewhere. I added the passion fruit jelly and pudding. Unfortunately there were no options in the delivery app to adjust for sweetness or ice so we got the drink as is. It was very well made but was sweeter than I'd prefer (my sweetness level is 70%). However because our accompanying dinner was spicier than expected, the sweetness of the drink actually helped us! I also ordered the mochi eggpuff with pandan flavor. I'm not sure if I could taste the pandan but the eggpuff was delicious. Again, sweeter than I'd typically like but the texture was great - crunchy outside with a chewy mochi filling. We had leftovers and it heated up excellently the next day in our simple toaster oven. This was intended to be a fun add-on to our meal and turned out to be quite essential - glad we tried them out!

It is a…read moresmall storefront along Dorchester Avenue, and I lucked out finding a parking spot just across the street. Inside the deep narrow space there were two tables along the right in the front area. Very utilitarian. Not gussied up at all. Fridges on the left held some drink options and other chilled items. I walked up to the Vietnamese sub station where a gloved lady was restocking some cold cuts and waited to order my lunch for $4.50. A sign posted informed me that if I had the appetite, I could have gotten one of Chau's sandwiches free if I were to order 10. The crisp roll seemed a tad larger than what I was used to. It wasn't toasted, but was spread with lots of the creamy white spread, before a generous portion of the beef I requested was added. The sub was also well filled with a sauce, scallions, pickled carrots and daikon, and cucumber. I had asked them to omit the spicy and cilantro, and to go heavy on the veggies. A second lady behind the counter took my $5 and gave me my change. My order was handed to me in a bag complete with a couple of napkins. Turns out the beef was cool as well, so that's something that New Saigon in Chinatown offers that tops Chau - that and the toasted bread. But still, my sub was tasty and well filled, and my stomach full for $4.50. So I was content.

However, I only noticed halfway that the staff making the sandwich was NOT WEARING A MASK during COVID in Nov 2020. The female staff who took care of the bill was wearing a mask. For this reason, my friend did not feel comfortable at this establishment. I hope they reinforce the mask policy better! Misc: very casual atmosphere. Street parking available.
