I was able to pick him up three days later, and the surgery had been done at no charge. The staff was incredibly nice. The woman that went over the paperwork with me was very helpful, and answered all of my questions. If I ever need another pet, I will absolutely use Dakin.

‼PSA‼ only take your animal to this facility if it is a perfect outstanding animal…read more On June 2, 2026, I contacted Dakin Humane Society in Springfield MA about surrendering my dog and was told someone would follow up after I completed their intake paperwork. After reviewing my dog's information, including her anxiety medication and use of a muzzle during vet visits, a staff member called me on June 4 and reassured me multiple times that Dakin could accommodate her. I specifically asked whether they had space for her and whether her anxiety would be an issue, and I was told they would work with her and that euthanasia would not be necessary based on her file. They even made a special exception to schedule the surrender on Saturday, June 6. After my best friend drove my dog and I two hours to the facility, the staff member Lauren is who we met & She immediately focused on my dog's muzzle and informed me that if I surrendered her, she WOULD be euthanized because a "dog requiring a muzzle and medication for vet visits would not do well in this kind of environment." She stated that whoever had previously approved the surrender should have informed me of this sooner. When I asked if we could be present if euthanasia occurred, I was told no and was also told her body would not be released to me for cremation. She also mentioned that they call muzzles "party hats" so it seems to me that they do utilize muzzles at their facility. Throughout the interaction, my dog remained calm, approached Lauren willingly, and showed friendly interest despite being anxious. Lauren refused to interact with my dog. Feeling misled after receiving repeated assurances that Dakin could help her, I chose not to surrender my dog and told Lauren to go F herself & that they could all go F themselves. I believe Dakin has behavioral standards even though I was given multiple reassurances over several days, had my best friend drive my dog and I two hours based on those assurances, and then received completely different information upon arrival. After getting home I read more reviews of this place and they have MULTIPLE stating that they're KILLING and turning away animals because they don't fit their adoption standards.

I call it my girl Ivy's home away from home, she loves them and being there! She started with them when she was about 13 weeks old doing puppy boot camp then daycare. This place only cares about collecting your money. We paid for a 5 week training for our 1.5 yo pup…read morefor $1600 x4 /week - approx $80/day. After the 2nd day I asked how the training was going and Sergio told me that they "wouldn't begin training until the 2nd week bc the first week is just to get the dog acclimated". After day 3 we pulled our dog from their program. She was dehydrated after each day there and on day 3 she came out looking soaked and Sergio told me "she had played in the snow". When she hopped in my car, her paws were disgustingly muddy and she smelled horrid. I brought her home and bathed her and she had a huge gash on her nose. When my husband called to let Sergio know we were pulling her and that we were happy to pay for the 3 days but wanted a refund for the rest, Sergio told him that those 3 days were $125/each bc they had done such intensive training each day. I reached out to see what training was completed w our pup since I was told nothing was done but nobody got back to me. Highly do NOT recommend.

Very pleasant people. And that's about all I have to say that is positive about this establishment…read more I don't like to write negative reviews. If u look at my my history, you will see that is true. I'm incredibly disappointed with my experience at this establishment. We brought our labradoodle to a location in CT after months of no grooming due to covid -19. If you know labradoodles, u know they have very long hair which easily Gets matted, deep under the furry exterior. That location wound up having to shave very low to the base of the fur, but our dog still came out handsome as can be; fluffy tail and face, but low shave on the body. (As shown in the image provided) After waiting a few months for dog works to open, because it is much closer...our dog once again needed a groom desperately. We brush him daily - but we're advised by dog works that, that is not enough. (Due to the information they provided and friendliness, I gave them two stars) however our dog once again needed to be cut short. The problem is, when we saw our dog after already paying and generously tipping, he didn't even look like himself. My family owns a alpaca farm, I would much relate the shaving job to that of how we shave our alpacas once a year; uneven and rushed. All that is left fluffy on our dog is a portion of his tail. Our dog is still the most handsome boy but they took away his character. Will not be returning.
