Esquire Deposition Solutions is practicing some serious price gouging. They charged my firm over $900 for a 42 minute deposition. They tack on all sorts of fees and add ons that were never asked for and to top it off, they never sent me an actual transcript until I fought with them, which took months because they do not respond to emails or phone calls. Do yourself a favor and do not use them for anything!! They will keep overcharging their customers until people stop using them. read more

Esquire is a large national company dealing, it seems, only in depositions. Kind of like a McDonalds for the legal world, providing mass-produced deposition services with a decentralized business office. There is little to no personal contact with the company and much is bureaucratized into silo type functions. For example, the accounting office is in Texas, and the 'customer resolution' office is in Florida. I'm involved in a legal matter, sat in on a deposition just to watch, and afterward my attorney requested a copy of the deposition transcript. We didn't hire Esquire, the other party did. However, when the transcript comes in, so does the bill. To my utter shock, Esquire tried to charge me $300 for "color exhibits" that we didn't request. This was on top of the charge for just a *copy* of the transcript (a PDF) that cost $500. Mind you, the people who hired Esquire had actually paid for their deposition services, the court reporter, etc. We just wanted a copy. Honestly, I think the copy should be free. The other party already paid for its production. Nontheless, this is how the deposition business works. It's a very lucrative racket, obviously. What I can't abide are the add-ons that Esquire tacked on that we never requested. $300 worth of add ons. To make things worse, those add-ons were my very own documents. All they did is email my own PDF's back to me! These are reports I own and had commissioned myself. They had the audacity to charge me for a PDF of my own document that they round-tripped back to me. Anyway, I don't want anyone else to line Esquire's pockets and be forced to pay for things they never ordered and worse, be pressured to pay for getting a copy of their own documents! If you read this, be sure that you expressly mention at the end of the deposition that you only want a copy of the transcript and NOTHING else. The good thing is the court reporter is documenting the verbal requests for the transcript and when you get the copy of the deposition back, the last page should be a written transcript of your verbal request. Esquire's website says the provide 125,000 depositions a year. Who knows just how many other people have paid for the add-ons they didn't actually request. How many other people have been charged hundreds of dollars for a PDF that was literally round-tripped back to them? At even just 100,000 let's say and just $100, that's an extra $10,000,000 in Esquire's pocket. Read your invoices folks. read more
