These were just minor repositioning's of outlets and especially the can lights. Most of them involved moving the lights only 6 to 24 inches one way or the other, in order for them to line up or be symmetric within the space. But they were the kinds of things that would have driven me absolutely crazy once we moved into the house. I would've been lying on my sofa, staring at the ceiling, and saying, "What the hell?" Excellent attention to detail. Clean worksite. Fast and friendly. What more can you ask?

He asked me for more details about the job and then sent me a very reasonable proposal. I told him I'd like to proceed and he let me know the date for install - 4 weeks out. (Trades are so busy right now!) Danny and Tua showed up 10 minutes early and were friendly and professional. The light fixture over the sink could not accommodate the can light that I wanted due to a beam, but Danny offered up an alternate fixture that looks great. He checked in with us on spacing for the remainder of the lights as well as the height for the chandelier. They worked well together and I felt like we were partners in the project with them - letting them know our preferences and then they executed beautifully. Sooo pleased! I highly recommend them and will use them again!

Review of Collins Electric…read more We had had several problems with our Xfinity connection, and were told some small amount of electricity is coming from our house, so we should get an electrician to find and solve the problem. I called around and got a some answers from those that didn't know about the problem, and some that were huge companies. I prefer locally owned expert construction specialists for the human connection and face to face discussions about my needs and budget. Brett Collins fills that description perfectly for electrical work. He's smart, competent, great at explaining things, affordable, friendly and reliable. But most of all, he cares about and obviously loves what he's doing and does it right. For example, when he was hooking up a new lighted address sign on my garage, he said he could do it, but would request an additional 1/2 hour to redo some wires I had put in, that worked ok but should have been shielded. I not only agreed, but was delighted. I spent a 50 year career as a carpenter and an architect and civil engineer so I know what a dedicated and successful contractor and technician looks like. Brett is like that. I soon learned to just stay out of his way and let him make the decisions and the several projects came out excellent. We got a brand new 225 Amp Panel (up from 100 Amp which worked but was outdated ) for which Brett handled all the permits with both the city and PG&E, a new outdoor back door light, a new outdoor outlet with room for a future 220v car charger if needed, a new lighted address sign, a new hallway double switch with dimmer (that I couldn't do myself). And yes he solved the Xfinity problem by checking all their connections, and all of the outlets in my house for possible wiring problems. He explained that a backwards wiring situation might send some electricity out to the Xfinity wires, and there may have been that in the past but there is not that problem now. And, since our TV viewing has actually been ok, we feel that issue is solved. In fact Brett solved all our issues expertly! I'm very comfortable recommending Collins Electrical for affordable, friendly, informative, responsive and most importantly very competent electrical work. David Vandeveer Santa Rosa, CA

Brad was the sub hired by our builder and we have had many problems with the job he did for them as well as a side job he did for us. We asked Brad ourselves and through our builder to meet with us and fix the jobs but he refuses. He doesn't answer email or texts. We have had to hire other electricians who have found lots of short cuts that were taken. One job for outside landscape lighting has never worked. We think we have been reasonable and straightforward with Brad and we have paid him thousands of dollars for what turns out to be shoddy work. Look elsewhere.

For example, had some issues with phone wiring that AT&T did, took my company off line for a few hours, meaning i am loosing money if my clients cant not reach me by phone, i called brad in a panic....... he said he was swamped that day but could be there the next day (which i understood he has other jobs and customers) all of a sudden, He showed up at my office close to 5 PM and starts to work and do what he can, then he came back the morning. BEWARE.......I recently had remodelling at my house and during the demolition, electrical wires…read morewere found in the wall. My contractor recommended this company and when their electrician Mike turned up to estimate for the work, he was very knowledgeable and professional and I was convinced they were the right company for the job. They did do very good work and in a timely manner. They were polite and courteous throughout the work. They did do a little damage to the rock wall with there power tool, but as this was going to be repaired as part of the remodel, I did not raise this with them. When Mike quoted, he made it quite clear it was on an hourly rate based on him and an apprentice. He gave me a price range and said it was likely to be between 6-8 hours work. I have a company I usually use for electrical work and they are $10 more per hour, but given the 6-8 hour estimate meaning only an additional $60-80 I decided to go with Mike and this company. This is where you need to beware. Mike did not explain that they charge from the minute they arrive at the company premises and not from when they arrive at your property!!!! When I questioned their final invoice amount showing 8 hours (only 6 at my property) I was told they got to work at 8am and yet they only arrived at my house at 9.20am (and they are only 6.3 miles away with no traffic issues around here). So 1 hour and 20 minutes to drive 6 miles and pick up electrical wire and junction boxes (which you would expect them to carry on their truck?). I was not only charged for this, but also the time they then took to clear up and get back to the office and un load (basically 2 hours more than they were at the property = $250) I was told that part of the reason for taking so long to get to me, was due to a stop off to buy materials for the job- really, an electrician company not having the tools of the trade in stock e.g. wire etc and then charging the customer to go shopping for it (not just one person, but the cost of the apprentice as well) at the full rate of $125 per hour! - I would like to be paid $125 per hour to go shopping Yet despite doing this shopping (and charging me for the privilege of doing what they should do anyway as part of running their business), they forgot a plastic cover for the 4 gang junction box (probably a $2 part). So their bill included a 15 minute charge (at $125 per hour) for dropping that part off at my property when they have it. That is the equivalent of $31.25 for a $2 part they forget to get from the store whilst charging me $150 for going shopping in the first place!!!!! When I complained and explained to the owner Tim that the cost of hours outside of my home were not explained, he kept going back to the fact that I was told it could be a total cost of $1400 and it came in less. But he could not get his head around the fact that regardless of what I paid, I had paid for employee hours that my usual firm of electricians would not have charged for. So I would have been better off paying the extra $10 per hour with them and only pay for the 6 hours it took to do the actual work at my property..... I got so frustrated with him, I gave up (probably what he was hoping for) and simply said I would pay his full invoice amount, but would never use his company again. I have tried to make this review balanced in that they did do great work, but not declaring the truth about how they calculate their costs ended up costing me $190 more. If you chose to use this company, I am sure you will get good work, but make sure you do your sums and ask questions when it comes to the bill. I would have given them a much higher rating for the work itself and if Tim had even been prepared to meet me half way, but he was not having any of it and insisted what happened was fair- I hope you agree it clearly was not.
