First and foremost, the whole team working there are so beyond awesome, they all give the vibe that they love their job (I hope they do), super energetic/fun and patient for all the clues that we ask for. We are always blown away by the amount of effort put into the rooms themselves and these guys really go above and beyond, fully putting you in the experiences. We did the ancient curse which was fun and straight forward for the most part. The next day we came back and did a harder one: room 057. This one actually broke our "5-win streak" because we couldn't complete it. It's differently tricky but mostly because we hadn't seen the puzzles they used in it before but it was fun. They actually put in something very unique (and personal) in room 057 than any other escape room we've done (not giving any spoilers) which was super cool of them to do an extra step to have us really think. We also loved how at the end of room 057 when the time was up and we didn't finish it, the girl came in and walked us through what we couldn't get. I think the *only* thing was that the walkie talkies they use were sometimes staticky and we felt bad having the team repeat themselves. Overall, would definitely come back again if we visit Calgary.

The facility is awesome and clean and centrally located. The staff and owners run a great facility and are professional and get in on the fun! Check in was a little disorganised. Really feel like they need another member of staff. Kind of get rushed through orientation and thrown in a room. Thankfully this wasn't our first rodeo and knew what was what with most of the locks so weren't worried we would never make them work. Have to think that during busy times its a bit like chaos at check in if it was this disorganised when there was only really 2 groups spaced apart going in. We did the Egypt escape room. It was actually pretty easy to get most of the clues and we moved through the room fairly quickly. Right up until the black light incident that is. Had to get help on that one and staff told us afterwards they have a hard time with getting the black-light paint to stay. If you paint it on, then teams can see it even without the black-light but if the keep applying it it fades every hour just a little more. An issue they are looking to work out and appreciated them letting us know that at the end. Nice that you can book in advance and pay separately when you get there. Not something that always happens. Will be excited to try their other rooms. Also like that they have a little tea/coffee shop there so you can have a beverage if your early and waiting for your turn.

Fun fun fun The best part was the super engaging staff…read more Several of them helped us out and they were all awesome! I particularly like how they encourage and basically won't let you start your room until you pick a team name. A great way to encourage people to get their team spirit on! Top it off with a picture after your done your room regardless of if you finished or not. The variety of coroplast signs you can hold up were a super great touch! I noticed several times if a doorbell for a hint was requested the staff would run- something I really appreciated seeing in the staff as when your time is ticking and your stuck the worst is waiting for your hint man to come. Having been to several rooms before we have experienced our share of rooms and found the 911 room challenging but very accomplish-able. The puzzles were well designed and little difficult math was required to solve them. All the gadgets and locks in the rooms worked with no issues. Plus we had the staff demo how to use the locks we would encounter in the room before we started- very appreciated!!! The 'bonus' part of this room I don't think we ever would have gotten without a hint but before we called for a hint we made a guess and our time was up- kaboom!. Having basically finished the room we still felt great and all had a fun time. They did advise us they re-vamped this room and it is no longer considered their easiest starter room but the second most difficult. The more linear layout of puzzles makes this not as difficult as some other rooms we have experienced. Definitely recommended!

One had finished their room and were watching their friends attempting a room on a monitor and a second group of ladies were waiting for the group that was being watched to finish so they could go in. The group that was watching their friends were quite loud and obnoxious. They were discussing the different puzzles and solutions while the group of ladies were waiting to go into that room. The female employee working asked them to quiet down and not discuss anything because the ladies were going into that room next, but one guy just kept going on. Terrible. Also, the male employee behind the desk showing the group the feed didn't seem to be helping and was quite into what was going on. Gladly my group wasn't doing that room so no spoilers for us. We did the 911 room. The premise of the room is that 4 university students have been murdered. The murderer has set a trap for the detectives (you) and you're locked in the room with a bomb that will go off in an hour if you can't solve the murders. We escaped with 2 minutes to spare, using one hint. One hint for a very poorly worded puzzle that was very misleading. I won't say anything else about that. No spoilers! Overall the room was ok but not extremely challenging. The different types of puzzles varied enough that it wasn't repetitive. There was really only the one poorly worded puzzle that stumped us for about 20 minutes, otherwise we would have escaped the room with tons of time. On a more positive note, the signs they give you to hold for your group photo when you finish are a fun addition.

This is the best escape room establishment I've been to here in town. Let's see if I can write a…read morereview without spoiling any of the awesomeness of the rooms themselves. Once you experience Escape Hour, you can really see what sets them apart from the rest. This place strives to give you more than just a bunch of puzzles and a room you are locked into for an hour. Here you get the full experience, as they really push the thematic nature of each room. Everything from the decor and story, right down to the period specific, functional antiques that you must use to complete some of the puzzles. Another thing that sets them apart (and the biggest part in my opinion) is that none of the rooms are linear, you can start on any puzzle you choose and end anywhere you choose. You don't need to find the "first" puzzle which gives you the answer to the second puzzle and so on. If you get stuck on any of the puzzles, there is no break in the experience where you push a cheat button to get someone to come in and show you how to do it, instead they coach you through any difficult parts giving you just enough help to complete it without giving it away. Now this is not just one person sitting back reading a book waiting for a button in any room to be pushed. There is a dedicated host to each group that can see and hear everything going on in the rooms and communicate hints and tips through a TV screen in the room. This way they can give you help or hinder your progress, thus tailoring the difficulty to your group. They will not give too much help and spoil your experience, but they also won't leave you frustrated if you can't pass a challenge. One thing I should point out is that this is by appointment. You must book a room. However, they will accommodate pretty much any time 24 hours a day. We finished up just prior to a group coming in at 2am for a work party that deals with the graveyard shift. Yes, they cater to individuals, and corporate office parties alike. I'd like to say a bunch more, but it would give too much away. Needless to say, GO CHECK THEM OUT!

There are a lot of different escape rooms in Calgary. You can find their posters on community…read moreboards in Starbucks or hear about them on the radio, but if you want a true escape room experience ignore all those advertisements and go with the best. Most escape rooms will make things harder by making you work in the dark with a flashlight. Most escape rooms will give you a buzzer or button to call in an attendant to help you if you get stuck. You won't find any of that cheap, time-stealing nonsense here. You want it harder? Escape Hour gives you more challenging puzzles and more of them. You want help? There's a dedicated staff member watching and listening in and if you need help they will put hints on a tv display in the room for you to use (or ignore as we did most of the time) rather than coming into the room, disrupting your experience and not knowing what stage you're at before they help you. This means you don't lose time, you get immersed in the experience, and the best part? They will never give you the answer, just hints to help you figure it out for yourself. They have four rooms that rotate in theme and when we went, and will be for a few months still: -The Lost Jewel of Zanzibar (african safari) -The Curse of the Evil Genie (arabian nights) -Prohibition - the Lucky Duck (speakeasy) -Cypherspace (interstellar) I did the Zanzibar one. The rooms are amazing, with authentic antiques and period items fitting each theme. They are all based on true stories, and are so much fun that you can't help but dive into it. When we went into our room the door closed and we just scattered. It was so much fun, I can't wait to do the other three themes! The puzzles and setup is great for all ages and experience levels. With the different themes and difficulty levels, Escape Hour rooms are great for families, professional groups, or just having fun for an hour. The staff are friendly and you can tell they care about the experience with the dedication and quality put into the rooms. If you want the best escape room in the city go to Escape Hour. You'll have a blast!
