Wow wow wow! What an hour of exercising your mind. The building is deceiving from the outside. I thought it would be something more theatrical and we would be a small part of the participants. Boy was I wrong. Its more of a exercise for the mind with a limited amount of time. First let me say the place is super clean and the staff is amazing. They go out of there way to make you feel welcomed and go above and beyond to make sure you totally understand the rules and your mission to unlock the puzzle. We went in with the opinion that we could easily solve a room under one hour. Ha ha ha, wrong it took us all of the 60 minutes. We did the St Augustine lighthouse and it was so much more then we had planed. Our guide was Hale who was amazing and patient with us. There were times that we keep missing some of clues, and she would have to redirect and repeat several times because we could not hear her over our bantering and laughing. All I can say without giving to much away. It's worth every penny. You find it fun and entertaining. We will be back to do the other rooms. Thanks again. read more

Very disappointing. I've literally played every room at this location and was planning to try the new one. To my surprise, they paired us with an entire group--something that had never happened before. For experienced players, be aware that they may fill any available spots with random participants, which can hinder communication and lead to overcrowded rooms. Additionally, if the room is linear, most players will end up just standing around watching. To make matters worse, I'm not from town, and even though the room is booked by another group, they refuse to issue a refund. Very disappointing overall. read more

We were looking for fun activities to do while we stayed in St Augustine and my friends mom suggested we do an escape room. I love doing escape rooms, so we found this rather charming place in the area. We signed up online and they have various different rooms. We tried the Sneaky Snake Lounge. This one was labeled as interactive so we were curious to what they meant by that. Without giving too much away, our game master actively participated in the escape room experience, and we can interact with said person throughout the room. Of course, the GM is who we ask for hints (which you do get marked down a half letter grade every time you ask I believe after 3). What an awesome experience to enjoy with your family. Located about two and a half miles from the downtown area in a strip mall with plenty of parking. I don't know that you could even do walk ins, I think it is a must that you reserve your spot ahead of time. There were several families in and out during her time there. You know all those coupon magazines you see throughout the city? There is a 15% off in that however, when we booked online it would not accept the code so that was disappointing as four people was quite expensive. All they're pricey very well worth the hour we were there. There are four different rooms to choose from, we chose the Fleet which was described as scary, exciting and middle of the line when it comes to difficulty. I have been to two other escape rooms. One in Texas that blew my mind and had me so excited to try again and another in Brandon Florida that was a total waste of money. If I never went to another one again fine. This one was definitely in line with my experience in Texas. It was pretty difficult and if my husband wasn't there with his crazy technical brain I may not have solved it but we all worked as a family. The one downfall is that we thought our family of four would be able to do the room alone however they put another family of four with us. It was fine but took a little bit away from the experience. I loved that there were multiple rooms flashing lights cool puzzles and props. I would absolutely return here and recommend you and your family give it a try too. read more

First off, I would like to say the staff is VERY friendly. I don't blame the staff for the experience that we had. However I feel it is important to be honest with our experience, as we felt we blew $30ish a person on a really disappointing experience. We did the Castillo De Matanzas room aka the "fort" themed room. As soon as we walked in, I was not thrilled about the flashing lantern hanging from the ceiling and the lack of lighting. I am not a fan of escape rooms that make you carry a tiny lantern to see everything. The clues honestly just didn't make sense. We had issues such as the blacklight not working properly (the staff was nice, added some time back and got us a new light). Some of the drawing symbols were smudged and could not be read properly. My husband noticed tons of dust in an area you have to complete a task in. There is no music playing or sound effects. We could hear the new groups watching their safety video since the tv is attached to the room we were in. This was seriously such a frustrating experience. Our game master was very nice and gave us tons of clues. But honestly that didn't even get us to the end, because the game was so disorganized. The lighting in all the rooms of this game are awful. Half the time you can't see what you need to do because it's so dark. One of the puzzles in one of the rooms was falling apart. One of the locks was left unlock from a previous game. The list of things that went wrong is pretty upsetting. We were hoping this escape room would be the highlight of our day, but it was a huge let down. I feel bad for the staff. They are so nice, positive, and supportive but the game needs some serious upgrades. In addition this room has items that are legit historical, so you have to be careful with them. I think a large group could maybe somehow get out of this room. But honestly for the price it doesn't seem worth it. read more

Woo! My girlfriend and I were in St. Augustine for a couple of nights as part of my birthday week celebration, and we just had to stop by Escape U to try their new room, Asylum. We had been looking forward to it when we heard about it on our previous visit, and as you can see from the rating, it did not disappoint. This review will be shorter than the first (which the owner recognized me for and described as "novel length," oops)--I don't want to say too much about Asylum, lest I spoil any of its cool surprises. Let me just say that this room is unlike any I have done before or since in a number of ways. There are some very interesting puzzles that I have never seen before. Be prepared to get creative when you are solving things in this room, especially at the beginning. We played with just two people and did not escape, and I don't know if there is anyone else we would have enjoyed playing this room with, just by the nature of the room... Personally I think the room would ideally be for four people. This is now my girlfriend's favorite room at the location, and she couldn't stop talking about it for days after. Personally Save the Fleet still has a special place in my heart, but I won't soon forget our Asylum experience. As a former clue-master employee at an escape room in Crystal River, FL, I was thoroughly impressed with how elaborate and detailed our room was. The clue-master who helped us into our room and briefed us on what our storyline was very nice and knew all kinds of details about the script. We did the 'Save Our Fleet' room and was it so well designed. The room had multiple stages that someone in your group is bound to be able to workout and solve. Thankfully we escaped with only 4 minutes remaining! Overall this entire experience and trip was something that I will look back upon and laugh. We had an absolute blast doing the Prison Break room. There were four of us and we were able to finish with a minute to go, after needing four clues. While it was tough it was never frustrating, and the game master was always a question away. I have done one other before at The Escape Game, and this was at least as good as that one if not more so. We did 2 escape rooms in one day... the Castillo and the Asylum. Castillo wasn't my favorite escape room I've done, in that one you are supposed to find 5 things to shoot a cannon and win. That aspect of it was less exciting for me than the thrill of being trapped and escaping. The Asylum though.... AMAZING. Favorite escape room ever (I've probably done 15 or so). It was so unique and a little scary! Had some really unique puzzles (not a puzzle but not sure what to call each thing in an escape room) that I had never seen before in an escape room. Do the Asylum unless you've got kids under age 10 I'd say, they might be scared. read more

Was headed back from Jacksonville to Orlando with a friend and we decided to stop off in St. Augustine for an escape room adventure. And boy did we luck out! Escape U is great. We did the Fort room which was really difficult. We had the Mac number of people and there were puzzles for all of us. From visual clues, to numerical & symbolic puzzles and lots of hidden objects. The people were really nice, price is reasonable and we had a lot of fun. I believe they only have two rooms and the max people was 8. Completion rate is around 14-17% read more

I have dont two of their escape rooms once a few years ago and then once recently and I have to say I was disappointed overall. Both times there were parts of the room that malfunctioned and there was miscommunication causing us to fail to escape even though we had plenty of time before getting stuck due to faulty setup. The first game I played we got pretty good hints but after it was over it was found that the clue we were using failed to unlock due to a misplacement of another clue piece. The second game there was a part that was painted red which we were told red means dont touch, but that was the clue that progressed us to the next step. I am most disappointed in the "game master" who when we asked for a clue they gave us a clue to something we already had done, meaning they were not paying attention to where we were stuck. Then when I made it clear where we were stuck, they gave another clue that was 100% incorrect meaning that we sat there for the last two minutes with no help as when we asked for another clue they said the same clue even though we were obviously not stuck in that clue. I am not sure I would recommend this place at this time which is sad because I was so happy to get back to escape rooms. read more

This place was amazing!!! It was my first escape room experience and it could not have gotten any better. The staff was very accommodating: seven kids and two adults. They toned down the scare factor for the ten year olds but at the same time kept the teenagers on their toes. Josh was our guide, he was an awesome story teller and very acknowledgeable about the rooms and all the random questions the kids were asking. Best Escape room I've been to! I went to the Save the Fleet edition. You have to brave the foggy hallway to get to your room, this makes for extra creep factor! There are live actresses and actors, and special sound effects. There were a total of 3 rooms to break out of in this edition. I do think it was harder than the other rooms I've done, but you get unlimited clues! It was a notch above a normal escape room but nowhere near as anxiety inducing as a haunted house. Consistently at least lol! read more

This place is good the people are nice and the place is clean. The main problem I have with this place is their bathroom, there is no hook for your purse so I had to leave it on the ground and trash bin in the bathroom was overflowing. The woman at the counter was so, so nice and she gave me and my friend more clues than we were aloud because we were so bad and pitiful. The website doesn't give a description of the room so the one we purchased had us separated and we didn't like that so the lady gave us a different room instead. Over all nice place, friendly people. There was a kid there that ran in the room and gave us a napkin when we need one. For some people a kid running around wouldn't be a plus but it made the place feel family owned. read more

Loved this place! My husband and I now make it a point to visit Escape Rooms when we travel and this was our favourite so far. The theme was so well executed and we loved that their rooms are based on St. Augustine history. The clues and puzzles were great for us as they involved really linear thinking, they weren't convoluted at all. It was creepy and they just went full out with atmosphere - I screamed a lot. We were also really impressed with the final room, a very realistic feeling replica of the inside of a light house. Finally, the service at escape rooms can often feel awkward and distant, but the girl who helped us was great - friendly, helpful and seemed to enjoy scaring the crap out of me (a good thing)! read more
