Our host Kia was great. We did the Dig. Puzzles were really creative but only one person could do each sequence it seemed like while everyone else was wandering around. Wear a t-shirt and shorts because it's really hot too. Please look into the HVAC situation!

Had a FANTASTIC time at Escape the Room Philly this weekend and are anxious to try the Vault when they get it up and running. This is a really fun way to spend an hour with your friends or coworkers. It can be a bit stressful at times(when your stuck!), but it was a lot of fun. I do think escaping gives you a better experience. I'm not sure how I would rate it if we got stuck in there, but we made it out with 4:20 to spare and we ALL had a blast! If you played these games on the computer it's pretty obvious what you need to do. Instead of using your mouse to "hover" around the room, you use your hands and your senses to do the same. You click all over until you get a clue. Use that clue to solve\find other puzzles until you eventually find the key to Escape the Room! We went with our Championship Defending Coed Softball team and had a blast. It was neat to see how we broke down into smaller teams\individuals tackling the puzzles then coming together with our clues and answers and escaping the room with 4:20 to spare! So you can see most of the negative reviews came from folks who failed to escape. Obviously you are having more fun if you succeed! I read someone's comments about how "bare" the office felt. The problem with making it more "authentic" is there are way too many things to interact with. It's not like the computer where you just hover your cursor over the room to see what you can interact with, so having too many objects in the room is going to overcomplicate everything. Note for users: you are locked in, however there is an emergency key in the room. No this key is not the answer and if you use it to escape in record time they will lock you back in. You are being monitored via video and audio. If you need the bathroom just look in a camera and say "I need to goto the bathroom". Take no pics, write nothing on the props, break no walls, leave the drop ceiling in place. If it's bolted down, it's meant to stay that way. You shouldn't feel claustraphobic in here. It's not that small, even with 10 people with you. Plus, you can always use the key to get out. Tips for ETR: if there are things "off limits" in the room, you should have a better way of saying that than a note that says "please do not touch". Consider putting a particular colored sticker on EVERYTHING people don't need to be concerned with so they know its not part of the game. All your notes to the players should be on this same colored sticker so it's obvious to the players this is a note from the Clue Masters and not part of the game. for example: coat rack, don't spin the ....., don't take the battery cover off of the ....., don't stick your finger in the electrical socket, etc. Reiterate to the players before opening the door (several times) not to shout out answers or tips on the way out. It's tough when your so excited from escaping and the waiting teams are right outside the door! Your waiting room has some cool games. Be great to incorporate one of these into the room! Thanks ETR, get that vault going, we want to be locked in!

Ask the Community - Escape The Room Philly

    Can I have a party if 20?

Yes, but you will need to reserve 2 rooms

So I'm thinking of having my 16 year old and her friends try Escape the Room, but does she need to be accompanied by an adult?

Hi Runo, We ask that children 11 and below be accompanied by an adult, but above that is fine without!

So after a day of seeing his grave and at the museum of the American Revolution we did this Ben Franklin themed room. And it was AWESOME. To be fair, I like a room that lets you wander around instead of forcing you down a path...and I like a room you get rewarded for looking at random things instead of having everything spelled out for you. I also like a room that has a lot of spaces that don't do anything. And this room had all of that. We ended up not needing any clues but got REALLY close to being stuck a few times. It just felt like a really good payoff for the puzzles in this room and a very cool story.

Not that my boss would hold me to it, but I should refrain from my dramatic declarations. The Olde City Escape Games is located in an office building, but there was a sign that pointed us to the correct building. Once inside, look for them in the name of the tenants and ring it like a doorbell. That felt like step 1 of the test. Once inside we were all in their lobby and encouraged to use the restroom before we get started. Our game master was awesome. I blame the Sangria. I wish I remembered his name! He was super fun and engaging throughout the experience. This is an escape room so I don't want to give anything away so I'll try to stay high level. Since we were in Philadelphia we decided to do something historic themed. We did their "A Quest for Freedom" escape room where you explore Benjamin Franklin's study and operate his print shop on a mission to help the American Revolution. Each clue or item is used only once, so be sure to track what you have used or what you have not used, cause it would mean you still need to use it. My team and I had a blast and I definitely feel closer to them after successfully escaping together. We might have been sharper and solved the clue faster if we came here before dinner and drinks... Lessons Learned for next time.

I've been to a few places in the ballpark of this before (Activate, Level 99). This place has a good amount of rooms, and a good blend of purely physical, and purely mental, so enough to satisfy any range of talents in your group, and flexibly so across rooms. Even with a few other groups in the building, we only had to wait a handful of times, and it was on the order of seconds. I came last time right after opening in October, and this time, many of the games were very much replay-able and fun with a new group! Not sure about coming back more frequently though-- I imagine that I'd have to similarly come back with some time in between or with enough new people to keep it novel enough to be fun. Some games are malfunctioning due to some unruly guests going way too hard, but otherwise, the staff are super helpful and are willing to help out to get games up and running for you again, or to give you tips on games if you're struggling to get a 100 score. A fun evening for sure! You'll leave a bit tired!

Because of the interest of my friends mainly, I was curious to see the differences between Blind Tiger Speakeasy here and the one in OBX escape rooms. The setup and price here is much better. I don't remember all the nuances, but I know the modifications done with KOP are much better. The beginning puzzle, they let you solve it intuitively in parts rather than expect the entire combination to be correct. This helps with playability and the fun factor. They have wonderful employees that work here. Jaden was no exception! I did catch on to some clues faster because even though I didn't remember exactly what I did with my group at the OBX one, I did have a faint inkling. At the OBX one, we didn't solve it but had help from a guide in the room as I was only in a group of 3, the room there required a minimum of 4, and we had to pick rooms that could serve physical accommodations there. I'm still "waiting" for some escape room in the general area to do escape the 90s. The closest one from my area right now seems to be Rochester, which is too far. I do pass by that way once in awhile, but being only one person makes it tough. . .

The front-end experience was fine, but once we got to the bar to order drinks and food, things went downhill. We waited about 10 minutes to be helped. I don't blame the bartender -- she was clearly doing her best and working hard to keep up. However, another employee came over and instead of asking who was next, he chose a couple of people to help and then walked away, which was frustrating. I understand that Fridays can be busy, especially with lots of reservations, but better staffing or having a manager step in to help during peak times would make a big difference. The food and drinks were just ok. Overall, the games were the highlight, but the service and food experience could definitely be improved.

The staff at the front desk asked for the person's name who created the reservation. Once our entire party arrived, we got wristbands that appeared to have a chip inside of them to detect which player is doing what inside each room. The birthday girl received a token for a free t-shirt of her choosing. We walked over to a set of lockers to place our belongings into while we played. Without giving too much away, there are four rooms you go into with the skill levels increasing each time. Most of the time, we made it to level 12-13 depending on how difficult the challenges were. At the end, you are provided with a bomb time (based on your total score from the initial rooms) to beat the bomb. We had roughly 4 minutes and 13 seconds to perform the last challenge. The attendant provided us with shoe covers and a white suit to put on while we waited for the room to be ready. Another attendant provided a clear helmet for our faces. I'll say it's slightly loud throughout the entire thing, so it's somewhat hard to hear instructions. I wasn't clear on the instructions we received when we got into the first room but I eventually figured it out. Our final score was 5/10 and the time was running out. Next thing you know, the paint splattered all over us. It was a funny feeling as the paint was cold. The cameras took a 10 second video of us and also a few photos. It was so fun to see our media at the end of it all! The employee walked into the room to hose everyone down. The food and beverage choices were decent and reasonably priced! They have alcoholic slushies and bar bites, such as chips & dip and pretzel bites. I got a cider on draft for $5.00. This was an experience I'll never forget! I'd like to come back to try the slime mission.
