Strong opinion alert - do not play Zombie Apocalypse. Of the 100+ escape games my wife and I played all over the country, we both agreed this was, without a doubt, the worst. It was truly frustrating how much this game felt like a cash-grab to more-or-less trick people into giving them $30 per person. To paint a picture... - Zombie apocalypse takes place in a single room (which used to be Escape Savannah's lobby). The room is sparsely outfitted with plastic folding tables and chairs, several lockboxes all with number digit locks, and cheap looking set pieces and theming straight from the Halloween store's clearance bin. - The setting is supposed to be a "research lab" but there are various items thrown around that do not fit with this theme and just feel like random trash - tarps, a tire, etc. Even the boards on the window aren't real boards.. they are painted pieces of paper. - There are no cameras or microphones in the room as is normally standard in escape games. Instead, to get a clue, you must knock on the gamemaster's door and tell them what you have solved and what you need help with before they can provide you a clue. - Because Zombie Apocalypse use to be Escape Savannah's lobby, you are directly adjacent to the gamemaster's room separated only by a sliding door that does not completely close. Throughout our game, we were distracted by the loud conversation the gamemasters were having in the room next door. When we knocked on the door for a hint, no one came out. - At one point during the game a gamemaster presumably arriving for her shift with coffee in hand walked from outside the building, through our room, and into the gamemaster room- she said "don't mind me'. At another point, an arriving group of players for another game was knocking on the door to enter the building (through our escape room) for their escape room. - We were told in the intro to the room that there would be a live actor that enters the room at some point. The gamemaster said this "zombie" will not touch you and requested us not to touch this "zombie". At no point during our hour did any actor/zombie enter the room. When we asked the gamemaster at the end of the game about it, she said she tells people that there will be a live actor whether or not there will be or not "to keep people on edge". She said if we wanted to see the live actor, to come back on a weekend (note: we played on a SATURDAY afternoon). - The puzzles were all paper based. The puzzles themselves weren't terrible, but many of them (for example, index cards with basic arithmetic on them) felt more like homework than fun, clever puzzles normally seen in escape rooms. - There were no fun moments/surprises/reveals in this escape room. The entire (one room) space was available to us from the beginning of the game, no technology was used, and there were no fun interactions - just entering numbers into combination locks to open lockboxes. The ending was very anticlimactic- it ends once you open the last lockbox. To be honest, we weren't even sure if the room was over. - Halfway into our hour, our gamemaster came in and started cleaning-up/resetting the puzzles we have already completed while we were still playing. We have never experienced this in an escape room... at that point, we just turned to each other and laughed. - At the time of playing (early January 2020), this room was listed as a capacity of 8-16 people. We played this room as a group of two and finished the room with one hint used- not because we are great escape room players, but because there wasn't a ton going on in this room. In my opinion, six people should be the absolute maximum for Zombie Apocalypse due to the limited number of puzzles and small space. As I type this, I can't stop shaking my head. I really don't like disparaging small businesses, but Zombie Apocalypse just felt...unethical. We hope those new to escape games do not judge the escape game industry as a whole on Zombie Apocalypse. read more

I had an absolutely fantastic time at Escape Savannah! A good friend was turning 40, so his husband decided to surprise him by having about two dozen of his friends meet him for an escape room, which he's always wanted to try. Escape Savannah has two rooms - one has a pirate theme and the other a ghost theme. I was a little bummed when I was put in the pirate room, because I love all things spooky. Still, I ended up having such a great time anyway. I'll have to go back later and try the other room! The employees were friendly and got into character, speaking in appropriate accents and going over the rules with us before we got started. You can ask for hints if you want them, but I recommend trying to puzzle them out on your own. We managed to escape, but we needed to pool our collective brainpower to do it. At $26/person, this is a really fun way to hang out with a group of friends and do something a little out of the ordinary. It's fun and challenging at the same time, and would be a great team-building exercise as well. read more

I had a great time here with my fiancee. We decided to go to Groupon and book this for our pre-anniversary dinner event. We have been to the escape room on Montgomery street and have actually beat every room they had, so it was time to try a different place. We booked the pirate room. I don't know if we went to the wrong door, but I don't really like how the front doors are locked and you have to knock and wait outside for somebody to come to the door to get in the building. The one on Montgomery has a big seating area with a full bar to sit at while you wait. The lady who worked with us was super nice and sweet. I intentionally booked on a day where it wouldn't be busy. I hate working with people I do not know and would rather just work with my fiancee because I personally think it helps strengthen our relationship as any team building activity would. Plus, I'm paying a kind of ridiculous amount of money to be able to do this so I feel like I should be able to choose who I go through the rooms with. I understand that the business is going to choose money and shove as many people as they can into a room, so I try weekdays during earlier hours. Overall, we passed this room and had to use our 3 clues. There is always one part of every main room that stumps me. I haven't decided if I want to try their other rooms because I might be partial to the Montgomery street one, but they definitely had good customer service and I didn't have any major complaints. read more

This was my first official Escape Room. I solved a children's Escape Room in Gatlinburg so I as excited to see an adult horror one. We did the Haunted House one and I gotta say, it was creepy! It wasn't as scary as I feared it would be but there was one "Oh Hell No" moment... that you will have to find out for yourself. Let's just say... I closed the door once we entered the second room, sat in front of it to block it off, and wouldn't open it again until what was happening in the first room finished- to the immense amusement of my companions. Unfortunately, we did not complete the room in time but this did not surprise me as there was a 30% chance of success. The guy running it said we had gotten 75% of the way through it and much farther than most groups that don't make it. Oh, and there's a person hidden in the first room for safety purposes and another reason but don't bother that person- they have zero clues for you and will not interact with you. They are also the reason the main person will ask you not to move the desk... so leave that red bump under the desk alone (no poking, pulling, kicking...) and keep looking elsewhere. (Of course, there may be a different person elsewhere... I am not sure where they all wait but they take turns.) This was just a ton of fun. I feel like they did a lot with very little. Hubby wanted more tech but I thought it was ok. It's very low-tech and some people have said dinky but I thought it was charming. There were very few scares but they were effective for me. All the clues fit well together and pretty obviously once you put them together. I had my notebook with me to write down clues and I still recommend it but I don't think you 100% needed it as once we started getting the clues to the right locks we didn't take time to write stuff down. I would still take it with me but I would try to only write down important stuff instead of everything I came across, like I mistakenly did in this one. Please be aware that the two rooms are considered one large puzzle for a reason... I think the only thing I would truly criticize would be the group sizes they allow. Luckily, it was just my husband, his bestie, and myself, but groups can go up to 11 or 12 people. Even they admit that's a squeeze. I honestly believe they should halve that number and only allow 5-6 people. That is what most other Escape Rooms I have seen advertised do and would fix some of the complaints I have seen on here about stuffing so many people in one tiny room. I recommend, for people considering this, that they go with a group of friends. It can still be fun with strangers, but it's way more fun if you have a nice group of friends who like to solve puzzles. Of course, it can get kind of tense so make sure you pick some chill friends who won't get upset or who handles pressure well. Liking puzzles is not a must but it really really really helps. The guy said playing the Escape Room games on the phone is also a good idea for practice. He didn't recommend any specific one but I do have to say the game I came across was similar but way easier than this. If you're looking for a challenge, do the haunted house. Otherwise, check out the pirate one. Side Note: I thought it was really cool that this was on Abercorn street as there is an actual haunted house on 423 Abercorn that is literally known as just that. It's the one that still looks like it has burn marks on it. Tour buses going by say the owners can't get anyone to renovate or buy it because of the hauntings. read more

Booked my group of 7 for Escape Room Zombie Search for the Cure. Another couple was tacked on to our big group which made a total of 9 people. Too many for this small room. It's basically opening locked boxes in a tiny room , cheaply furnished , mediocre acting from the two people. Also during the scenario the door to the escape room opened and an employee walked through saying "oh I didnt know there was a group". We've been to other Escape rooms in other states and I would not recommend this particular one. Maybe the other room scenarios were better but from the look of the place I wouldn't count on it. Save your $30/person in Savannah for the mint juleps and great food but definitely NOT this place. read more

There wasn't an opportunity for 3.5 stars so I went with 4 versus 3. Cons first: it was overly crowded. Being the only escape room in Savannah I think correlates to the overcrowding but I think at some point you have to cut the number off (6-7 tops). Because of the high number in the room we were 1) like sardines in a can and 2) milling about bored without enough clues to engage everyone The pros: they decorated the room well so it stuck to their theme but I would also say it felt anticlimactic when we opened the final door (which we'd identified in the waiting room since it's not well hidden). The clues were well thought out and difficult enough to make it challenging. Service: the owner was very nice and she dresses for the part! She seems to really enjoy the business. Very enthusiastic about it which is fun to see. i think they put a lot of thought into their rooms. read more

Bleh. This escape room was pretty bad. One of the worst ones we've done. First off they don't even tell you that you may be put in a group with strangers. Second, there is a ghost in the room which is just a person standing there or walking up breathing on your back (unnecessary). She was just oddly annoying and would scream at you for touching things. A simple "put that down" or "please don't touch that would suffice". Third, the room is TINY and they stick you in there with 8+ people. The antics are cheesy. The clues aren't really helpful. The others in the group were a bit annoyed because they were pretty much impossible to figure out. Overall, I would save my money. Not worth it for the price at all. read more

We scheduled a room at 4 o'clock on a Sunday for 6 people. We arrive 15 min before our appointment. We walked into the waiting area and another party of 6 walked in. We thought they were going to do another room at this location. But NOPE!!! All 12 of us squeezed into this little room and tried to "escape". Twelve people, two different parties DO NOT belong in a small escape room. The props were also terrible. DO NOT RECOMMEND. We literally just showed up at the place and asked if we could squeeze in with another group later that day. The staff was beyond sweet and amazing. I've been to several escape rooms, and let me tell you, this was the absolute worse. We came with a party of 11, 15 minutes early, and was greeted by a nice hostess. The appointment was at 8pm scheduled for the pirate and haunted room. It was located on the corner of abercorn, in a scary sketchy building. We were told that the rooms could only accommodate 10 people and since we had 11, we had to split out groups. In addition, we were told that there was a group that called but haven't paid and would join us later. That bothered me because we couldn't have our whole party but we would have to add others to our group. What blows my mind is how they think 10 people would be able to be in the room. The rooms are small and it was so hot! So what really made this experience terrible was the fact that my mother in law, the one who organized this event and paid for everyone, she asked our "ghost" who was in the room to make sure we don't touch or break anything, and she went off on her. My MIL asked her twice if she could give us a clue, and the "ghost" glared at her and told her "i can kick you out." That just ruined the whole mood of the event for us. Not only this, but when we left the building, one of the workers had the audacity to come out and ask us if we took a ONE DOLLAR bill out of the tip jar. One whole freaking dollar. Please explain to me why we would pay for 11 people to do an event and then take a one dollar bill. So my father in law to deescalate the situation handed them a dollar bill. Overall worse experience and customer service I've ever experienced. I recommend they teach their employees manners and answer people in politer ways. read more

A group of teammates and I tried the Haunted Room. We made the reservation only a day in advance, and got spots for 8 people. The room was pretty fun, but the props and experience were kind of lacking. The puzzles were creative and our group has a good time experimenting. The "ghost guide" was pretty creepy, and made the whole group a little uncomfortable. There was just an off vibe about that man being the only one working that made us a little hesitant to even enter the building. The building itself made us uneasy as it was pretty run down. we had to knock on the door, and wait for the man to answer. before he creepily beckoned is inside and then proceeded to lock the door behind us-not the most reassuring action. however once we entered the room, we did end up having a good time... just the first impressions that put us on edge. read more

3 stars because the kids had fun, but thank goodness I found this through groupon and at a discounted rate, I would've been very unsatisfoed had I paid $30 a person. Entry was very unclear, almost unnerving, no signs or instructions, we weren't even completely sure we were in the right place, and the staff seemed far less than interested in being there. We thought a few times the "pirate" in the room with us was going to fall asleep. Instructions were non-existent, most clues were found by accident instead of in sequence, room was WAY too small for 10 people to work together and at least 2 or 3 were always just watching at any moment. Our group did the Pirates Room and had a great time. We had been in other escape rooms before, but this was the first one with an interactive staff (other than the faceless hints over an intercom). The staff interaction added a nice touch and made the escape much more enjoyable, especially for the children in the group. I've done a lot of room escapes so I feel like I set the bar pretty high when reviewing, and Escape Savannah fell short of expectations. First, there were way too many people. When you have too many people then there aren't enough things for people to work on and you finish the game too quickly. Secondly, they are going for a scary vibe but it came off as cheap and pretty silly. The host was dressed up and she put some effort into her character, but it was pretty minimal. Being a "scary" theme I thought there would be more technical clues but it was really just them turning the lights out on you sometimes and a few cheap props. The storyline didn't make a lot of sense to me and the last clue was totally anticlimactic. I was like "wait, that's it? We're finished?" Being that Savannah is known for it's local theatre and for having an arts school, I expected more. If you want to be scared and actually learn more about Savannah's history, I would recommend a walking ghost tour with a reputable company instead. read more

My sorority sisters and I loved this place. I booked a session at this escape room for our 10th anniversary trip earlier this summer. We had the scary, horror room and it was a blast. The cast explained the rules and acted their parts nicely, and even though we didn't escape they were shocked at how far we got considering we were so scary acting. I would definitely do this again. We had 10 players last night, we finally got through the door with just minutes left. It was the best fun we have had in a long time. Being a local it's hard to find new and fun ideas but the escape room is a definitely something different and had us all laughing through out the game. I went with my boyfriend expecting to actually be scared but all it was was a tiny room, cheap props and two poorly played actresses; one in which we were pretty sure was drunk on the job with no filter with what she said and the other who sat in the room with us on her cell phone the ENTIRE time. We played this escape game as a group activity on Valentine's Day (2/14/16) and had a great time! Please be aware, this is NOT a "haunted house," it is a puzzle game. The ambiance is slightly creepy and there is a character in the room with you that made me quite nervous (I'm easy to scare), but if you're looking for a "scary" experience, that's not what this is supposed to be. What it is is a fun puzzle game. There are clues all over the room and you have to figure out how they work together to "escape" the room. Our group just barely solved the puzzle in time, so it was quite exciting near the end! I actually think it would be easier to solve with 4-5 people. We had 11 people in our group, so that made it hard to communicate with everyone so we'd all have all the info. Still, it was a fun and unique activity, great if you love puzzles! read more

Great fun. We did the haunted room with 6 adults and 3 teenagers ages 12-15. The game was challenging but allowed everyone to participate using keys and figuring out the puzzles.
