What do you eat when it's cold and the wind tries to blow the rain around your umbrella? Probably anything within a 5 minute walk of your hostel, if I'm honest. If you had a choice (and a better umbrella), there's a good chance you'd seek out a hot bowl of soup. There's also the possibility you'd just manage to get lucky walking the streets of a city whose native language you didn't speak. Given the circumstances, I was very happy to find Escale a Saigon.
Their pho is different than I'm used to. It's not a bad different, but more like trying to walk on a foot that's asleep. It's familiar, but just... different. I've never been to Vietnam and the only pho I've had is in America, so whose to say if awake-foot pho is better than asleep-foot pho. I liked it and it hit the spot; that's all that really matters to me. read more
