This intimate Thai restaurant is another family-run hidden gem of the Uxbridge Road. The décor is wonderfully authentic mostly dark green with big paintings of paddy fields on the walls. The food is great, with quite a big selection. The papaya salad as a starter is mouth-wateringly scrumptious. The critics are no fools and Esran Kheaw has garnered many award nods for the 15 or so years it's been around, including best Thai and best new restaurant from Time Out. The prices are also very reasonable with wine starting from £8 and main courses from £5-£15. The manager is very hands on, which at times is borderline hilarious, but for some it can be a bit intimidating or intrusive. It's certainly not that the service is bad, but that occasionally there is just a bit too much service.

This was by far the best meal my husband and I had on our honeymoon in London. We stayed in Shepherd's Bush for part of our trip and luckily stumbled upon Esarn Kheaw when we were in the mood for Thai (my favorite!). The restaurant is owned and run by a family from Northern Thailand, and the father and son were the two that waited on us. I 've read other reviews that say the son talked too much, but we found him (and his stories) to be rather charming. It was a nice change from the typical, indifferent London waiter, and he and his father provided friendly, attentive service. Now that we're home, the son's catchphrases ("Does that make sense?" "Do you know what I mean?") have become an inside joke between my husband and me that we use all the time in our conversations. As far as the food goes, we could not have been happier. We enjoyed the crispy wontons and bowls of Tom Kha soup for appetizers and the Pad See Ew and Panang Curry for our entrees. The soup was some of the best Tom Kha I've ever had. It was flavorful and just the right amount of spicy - makes you sweat a little, but doesn't ruin your palate for the rest of the meal. I liked my curry very much - it was a rich, vibrant red color - but my fork kept wandering over to my husband's plate for another bite of his Pad See Ew. If we ever make it back to London, we're definitely going back to Esarn Kheaw. (Meal was about £35.)

I wish we could've tried other dishes ... but I would comeback to London just for these dishes

Amazing place, amazing food, amazing staffs!! The best I've tasted my whole London Trip!! Taste just like home cook! To bad we couldn't work out our schedule to be back everyday before we fly back to Boston ... must try! The sausages, tiger cry, stuffed chicken, papaya salad, beef jerky, chicken prik and beef stir fry and more!!! Happy we got to try and finished everything

The staff were all very professional, helpful and friendly. At the same time it was not stuffy and didn't make you feel uneasy. We tried the sampler platter for appetizer which was delicious. It was a good array of the their wonderful cuisine. The fried appetizers were not greasy and cooked just right. Loved the chicken/nuts dumpling, very unique and full of flavor and spices. For entree we tried the Lamb curry, sea bass curry, meat curry and pad Thai. They were all a hit, but the sea bass was the winner as far as we were concerned. The sauce and flavor was the perfect combination. Since it was a birthday celebration, we had the molten chocolate cake and the mango cheesecake, an amazing experience trying both (served with vanilla ice cream). Clearly feeling overwhelmed. Placed an online order that was projected to be ready at 8:10 pm. I got there at about 8:15pm and the woman that greeted me was pretty calm cool and collected even though the place was JAM PACKED- with several people waiting outside to pick up delivery orders or waiting to be seated. She was multitasking for sure- taking orders at tables, dealing with Uber Eats folks, as well as people coming in for a table, and me picking up my online order. It was a bit of chaos but she said to give her 2 mins. I said I'll give you 5 trying to be cool because she was working hard. About 13 mins later a young woman (20s or so) came over and asked me to step outside. I politely told her 'that woman' (pointed in the nice lady's direction) said I could wait here, so I'd rather stay here to get my order. Based on her facial expression and the fact that she went to another employee to obviously complain about me - I wasn't going to budge - and get sent outside to be forgotten about. My order was given to me by the nice woman about 8:45pm- 35 mins after the time stated online. A bit aggravating for sure but thanked the nice lady for being so nice. Speaking from my personal and professional experience people can generally forgive a lot of things if the person they are dealing with is nice. All that to let you know that my family and I thought the food was pretty darn good. I will definitely get the chicken wings again as they were cooked perfectly and with just the right amount of crispness to them.

These office workers went religiously to a place that suddenly stopped serving them Thai... the office workers cried out and felt lost in a world of burgers giving them no real options. They began to lose hope that the staple of Thai food would never return until the Little Thai put up their sign and opened their doors. I went with a pad kee mau, fellow yelper Vickie tried out the pad thai... it's just what we've bee missing. For those of you who are familiar with the area, it's the building that used to house the French restaurant (which I'll actually miss, they were really nice) but it's a lovely space, nice and bright and modern. We had a chance to chat with the new owner and it seems he's got a bit of experience with restaurants in the past so we're looking forward to having them as a permanent fixture in our little neighborhood. Staff were friendly and the food is excellent (and good value). Lunch from 12-3, they deliver during dinner hours... The Little Thai does not disappoint! I'm so happy the area has Thai again! Honestly, ask anyone who has to come to NW3 on a daily basis, they'll moan about those dark Thai-less days as well.

For my main, I wanted to try two different things so I got both the Penang curry and the pad Thai, both of which were delicious. Next door, the Ginger Pig was holding an urban butchery course-very chic! But, back to Somtag. As I say, it's quite small and on weekends I would definitely book. The decor is solidly Thai but in an understated way. We were greeted by the owner who was politeness itself-he told us a little of how he came to own the place. We ordered drinks and tap water was brought for us and then constantly re-filled-very good touch. Service was generally excellent. We had: Thai fish cakes soft shelled crab (both to start) Massaman lamb curry green curry Pad Thai Both starters were really good. I love Thai fishcakes, though they can get on the greasy side. These were freshly made and non-greasy with clean flavours. The soft shelled crab was very reasonably priced at about £6 but we got 2-3 huge pieces. Not the best crab I've had but for the money they were absolutely fine. I was concerned ordering the lamb curry-I have a "thing" about lamb as it can be chewy/fatty. I needn't have worried-the lamb was slow cooked, lean and wonderfully tender. The sauce was rich and deep-a revelation. The green curry was less fireworks but very nice indeed with all the attendant flavours you would expect in a good Thai curry. Pad Thai-tick yet again-huge king prawns were buried deep in the noodles. We had no desert as we could hardly walk after this. If you live in the area or even if you don't give this friendly, very competent restaurant a bash. We will certainly return.
