A reminder is sent in December to let you know that you should schedule an appointment or upload all your documents to the SmartVault before the appointment or as a substitute for your appointment. Smart Vault is where they store all your past tax documents, which comes in handy if it's ever needed. This year, I decided to explore the other options and utilized the SmartVault option, so all I had to do was upload all my documents and just wait until Joe get a chance to process it. Joe called me with additional questions. After all said and done, he sent me notification that it's ready to file, and all I had to do was reviewed, signed, scanned, and upload to SmartVault for filing. The invoice for the service is also included, and you can make a payment over the phone with Sally. This is so convenient, and such an innovation way to do your taxes without having to leave the comfort of your home and fight traffic. Super awesome! The latest update being I tried to make some changes to my small business taxes and the IRS responded by telling me that my business was not registered properly (it was missing the correct form to register as an S corp (Eric's recommendation in the first place). Additionally, the IRS forms require a wet signature which Eric never requested from me, so even the forms that were filled out (1120S) were not valid. "...the IRS confirmed that neither 2020 or 2021 are reflected as 1120s, this means ... the IRS has no filings for the LLC." It was already expensive when I paid Eric to file it initially, now I have to pay a new professional to fix it. Lots of money spent and major anxiety and panic that I would have loved to avoid. I could have saved myself thousands if I had done additional research and gotten a personal recommendation. I would never recommend Eric to anyone.

Before I got married, I had the simplest tax return on Earth: earnings, 401(k), and some donations. We own our home and rental property together, but I always LITERALLY left that to Mr. Ferguson to work out. So this year, I was married (!) and had to be included in all this tax nonsense. I say nonsense, but the truth of the matter is that I'm very familiar with taxes and how they work (stoopid work). Brandon checked in with us on the regular regarding tax paperwork he needed. He was like the proverbial mother-in-law in the GOOD way; and when we figured out our final return: newly married, rental property, residence property...I was happy that he explained everything in plain English, (I could have taken more tax jargon, really!) and [he] found each exception he could, explaining what needed to be taken, etc.) THIS GUY. He's a CPA. He studied [and paid the] same amount as everybody else to gain this certification. I find it funny that ONE person complained about the price that you pay for a person that is on both your side, AND the LAW'S side of things. He's looking out for your best interest ALWAYS; and frankly, H&R Block are terrific people, but to say that you have an accountant of your own is not some kind of weird status thing, it's knowing that you have somebody who will best advise you on how get through this crazy tax world. Very nice people but I would never use them again…read more I had them prepare my taxes for the last four years. First year was great. Then they incrementally increase their fees year over year while doing the exact same work. As a customer I felt taken advantage of. First year they charge me approximately $400 to prepare my taxes. This year they charged nearly $1000 to prepare the exact same taxes. Now that would've been fine if they had notified me prior to doing the work that they would be charging me 100% more to do my taxes this year. That way I would've i could have made an informed decision to either say yes or no to the work. Instead they perform the work and then blindside me with with an enormous bill. It would've been one thing if they had used some special accounting magic and lowered my tax obligation but that was not the case. For their thousand dollar bill I could've gotten the exact same results filing standard deductions using $30 TurboTax. So basically as they observed my income increasing over the years they decided to charge me more to prepare my taxes even though the work was exactly the same. To me that just shows a lack of ethics. So even though they're very nice I would never use them again nor will I recommend them to anyone that I know.

Paying for an accountant to do your taxes is often thought of as an unneeded expense but I think Steve is worth the money. Especially if he saves us time and money as well as peace of mind knowing our taxes are in good hands. His fees are very fair. On March 7, 2025 I made an appointment to come in on March 11. The morning of March 11, he cancelled the appointment due to car trouble. I said "why don't we do this next week at your office." He replied "I will let you know by Friday which day works best for me." That would have been the 14th. I didn't hear from him again until the 18th, the next Tuesday. Now he still won't make an appointment. His office is right next to a light rail station that connects directly to where he lives, but he refuses to meet me at his office until he buys a new car. At the height of the tax season. I told him I am leaving town in a few days until after April 15th. And when I propose to meet him in the vicinity of where he lives, days later I still haven't gotten a response. Doesn't care at all about ignoring and inconveniencing others.
