Terrible place! Terrible attitude after dealing with a bad car accident with our daughter. it's hard enough dealing with an accident then to have an awful shop owner be rude & give you a $600 bill just to tell me to bring my title to him & he will just call it even! I went in to ask a question about repairs and I was greeted with "what"...I asked if that was how they greet customers. It was end of day so I quickly asked a question and my answer was " yeah we don't do repairs on Saturday" like I was needing. Instead I was told it was probably a dealer problem and it would take a lot longer than a few hours on Saturday. All I needed was a sensor replaced. I don't have a lift or the tools or I would have replaced myself. Instead I called Busy Bee on calumet ave. They got me in Monday morning just said "sure we can look at it no problem ". I took my vehicle in Monday at 10:00am and was fixed ready at noon. If you want respectful people do have your vehicle fixed call Busy Bee. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would! By far the worst business in Northwest Indiana!! They will refuse to take your car where you want it with the excuse they have other business to do and they will take it to their shop and tell you that you can't get it until Monday forcing you to pay storage for 2 days. The police had our car towed here after a wreck. Tried to work with the driver (Owner) while at the wreck site just to get some basic information. Absolute waste of time couldn't give a straight word yes or no to being a AAA shop and or any information for that matter. Drive ended up flat out ignores us and just loaded the car. After the short 3-hour hospital visit attempted to retrieve the car. Upon walking into the shop, we were informed we owed $150 plus storage just to get questions answered. Simple trying to retrieve anything from the car was $150 plus the belittlement of the owner. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place like the plague. read more

Very disappointed and disgusted at how he gouged me for towing my car 1 mi for 150.00, $25 of that was a kick back to the police department. I didn't know at the time how horribly high it was but here in Chicago land area towing is only $85 for the same distance. He was fast talking and rude at first. Had to call him out on that. He refused to tow me home to Illinois. So I got stuck with an extra towing bill that my insurance won't cover now. I do believe it was because I'm out of state and an older woman who was in a bind. He obviously wasn't cahoots with the police department. They called him not me. A horrible business. They don't get much worse than that. Hope they enjoy spending my stolen money as it was definitely highway robbery. read more

These guys are great. Like another reviewer stated, it's an old school shop. I'm from out of town when my ride died; cracked radiator. They had me fixed up and on the road again in no time charging a very fair price. Jon and the guys there ought to be commended. read more

I had to give these guys a 5-star review, because they were so incredibly helpful. I was driving around looking for an air pump while I was waiting for my take out order to be ready. I found one at Ernie's and got out of the car to fill up my tire. The low pressure light had been on all day so I went to fill it up. As I was filling the first tire, a gentleman came outside and asked if I had a tire gauge. I did, but of course it was buried in my glove box so he kindly checked the pressure and then proceeded to fill the rest of my tires to the correct pressure and even replaced one of my stem caps. Great service, Ernie's! Thanks for saving me from freezing on this 27 degree night! read more

I took my vehicle in for only front brakes,as I was told by a reputable mechanic that back brakes were fine,Ernies did back also,without contacting me,I stated to call me with any questions or problems. They said it would be done by 2 o clock, I even asked how its going, no mention of need to do back brakes when I called at 2. 5 o clock, they called stating it was done,still no mention that they did back brakes without my approval. I arrived to find out the bill was over 500. I paid the full price, no apologies were given, Mike stated he trusted his Mechanic, and if any problems, parts were guaranteed for life. Just over 1 year,brakes are bad,soI called and they said they would Take care of the brakes at no charge. They called me 3 hours later to tell me the brakes were fine, insinuating that I was nuts, and I would never be happy,his 2 employees yelled and threatened me, yelling with no masks Worn by all 3 employees ,they easily could have spread CORONAVIRUS, They actually attempted to intimidate me,stating too bad,just leave! read more

Mike @ Ernie's was always helpful and kind. Ernie's was my mechanic/auto repair shop for four years. Even when I gave them ample opportunity to charge for repairs I didn't need or gave them proof of my ignorance regarding cars where others had tried to sell me transmissions or other costly repairs, Ernie's was always reliable, honest, and forthright. I was never charged more than they advised me and they kept in good communication with me - though sometimes I had to call to follow up. Bottom line? Always reliable, charged reasonably and less than others. Quick, reliable service. Loved dealing with Mike, the mechanic :) They service all the police and city vehicles so they are busy. Towing can be a bit pricey, though. Still... Until I moved to another city, they were always friendly and professional. Really loved this place! read more

Must agree with other poster very rude and especially condescending toward women. My wife went there for a tire repair in the process of removing the tire from the rim the owner Mike broke the tire inflation monitor inside the rim (which was working flawlessly before they worked on it) at this time I had arrived to witness to him questioning my wife about if she ran the tire flat even though she said it only got down to 15 psi he accused her of breaking the monitor. After talking to a Ford dealership which told me that they can not get broken by running the tire flat, which it wasn't but are normally broken by miss use of a tire machine , I returned and confronted Mike with this fact, again he was very rude and threw the sensor on the counter told me in no uncertain terms its your word against mine and he wasn't going to fix it. Unless you want to deal with an very unsavory type of business owner like Mike who doesn't stand by his work I highly recommend to stay away. It going to cost me well over 300.00 please don't press your luck with this guy what a jerk. read more
