Stopped by Erik's Fish & Chips for lunch. Unassuming food truck that has sort of built out into a sit down type restaurant (limited seating). I ordered the fish & chips combo, with homestyle fries. Took 10 mins. Great crisp on the fish and crunchy fries. The biggest issue I have with Erik's is that everything was under seasoned. The battered needed seasoning as well as the fries. Very bland. Then if you want tartar sauce, you actually have to pay for it. There are some bottles of malt vinegar on the tables. But salt shakers would have been better! Otherwise, it was decent fish & chips. One of the things I really wanted to have while traveling to New Zealand was fish and chips because of the strong British influence. There actually wasn't an abundance of choices as I thought, and the best option was Erik's Fish and Chips located in the Queenstown Mall, near Queenstown Bay Beach. This is a small food shack with outdoor and indoor seating that also has a restroom. Order at the counter, pick up, and sit wherever you want. What brought me here was the selection of different fishes (hoki, monk, and blue cod), and even different type of chips (regular, Erik's homemade, and Kumara). There's also other seafood selections, fried vegetable and dessert items, and chicken tenders. I ordered the Fish and Chips Meal Deal. There's a lot of upgrade options, and sauces cost money too! Yes, it is priced for tourists! The price of the fish are PER piece, which is about 120 grams, and all sourced from the South Island. The Fried Monk Fish was good. Moist, tender, meaty, flaky with a mild sweetness. Erik's Homemade Chips were good. A bit too much salt for me, but the chips were really crispy and soft inside. Keeping the skin made it better! Added a Blue Cod. This was similar to the monk fish, but more tender, delicate, flaky, and sweet. Both fishes were not seasoned, so be sure to sprinkle some chicken salt with a splash of vinegar. The way it was battered was messy and uneven, so you don't get the full crispiness. Overall, the fish and chips were good. No, it's not the same as in England, but it's New Zealand's version, and definitely acceptable. Yes, it's pricey, but that's just being in the heart of Queenstown. The fish were prepared well, fresh, and does not have that frozen taste. The staff there were very friendly and nice. I'd order from here again. read more

You can order and pay online and set the time then go in for pick up! Highly recommended! Definitely upgrade and go for the blue cod. You can't go wrong. The fish is so good and very meaty. My son's "kids fish and chips" barely had fish, mostly breading. I forgot all the pricing, but see pictures for pricing, sorry some got cut off by the light. The location is tucked away in a little shopping area. When we went at night, almost everything was closed so it's very easy to miss. Rated as the top f & c in Queenstown, chips were dried out and shriveled, asked for lemon and chicken salt, both were missing even after checking before we left with it takeaway. This place serves some of the best fish and chips I've ever had in my life. We had several meals here during our stay in Queenstown. I recommend the blue cod and chips with a side of aioli. The fish is juicy and mild, and the batter is crisp and light. I also suggest getting the cauliflower bites, which were absolutely delicious. The portions are massive and enough to share. So Good. Across the street from the Novotel so that was super convenient for us. It was also raining but all good because they have a separate trailer for dining. Now THESE are fish and chips. Everything is cooked to order. The batter is tasty. Even the kids meals are larger than expected. We ordered the $10 meal and a kids meal to split. I'm a fan of the Hoki which came with the $10 meal because its not as fishy in taste. My husband enjoyed the Dory which definitely was a lot more fish tasting. I wish we could've ordered more--- like the oysters or poutine -- but this was plenty to fill us! Definitely go here if you are in Queenstown! read more

Yes it really is excellent. Pipping hot and lots of options. I ordered the Dory fish. It is the middle priced fish option and is cheaper than the cod. It was fresh and delicious. Had it with fried cauliflower instead of chips. Very good but not outstanding. I really should not eat fries (chips) and these were a nice alternative. Price and service were very good. No ambiance but great food at a good price. It's a "food cart" set up but with a small indoor adjacent room with tables. If the weather is nice most patrons take their food to the lakeside park only a few steps away. We ordered blue cod and chunky fries. With two sodas added, cost was $30. If we had ordered the cheaper fish cost would have been only $20. They don't cook your food until you order so it was hot and crispy. read more

Best fish and chips that I had in all of NZ. Anna and her staff were wonderful too. I preferred the aioli over the sweet pepper sauce but both were good. I tried the hoki and dory but not the halibut. Both great! Battered perfect on each of three occasions. I also really, really enjoyed the calamari. read more

Erik's Fish & Chips was amazing!! My husband (whose name is also Erik!) and I ate a lot of Fish & Chips while in New Zealand and this was our favorite. While this is a food truck restaurant, an ambience was created through the use of fake grass and cute, round tables. We enjoyed sitting outside, eating our food. The deep fried kiwi was a new, delicious find that I highly recommend! Definitely going to find this place again when we next visit Queenstown. read more
