Outstanding ophthalmologist and eye surgeon. Professional, friendly and transparent practice.read more

After a considerable waiting period, I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Martinez. The…read moredoctor's consultation was professional, informative, and pleasant. Four days before the first of two scheduled surgeries, I spoke with one of his staff. During this discussion, I raised the issue that this surgery has, statistically speaking, a 98% success rate. What had been, up to that point, a pleasant interaction became uncomfortable when I asked a question about this. Based on the first response I received, I believed that the person didn't understand the question, as she gave a totally irrelevant answer. After reformulating the question two more times, where it couldn't have possibly been misunderstood, and receiving answers that only deflected the question, I became frustrated. She suggested that I ask the office manager. Two days later, I spoke with the office manager. I told her that her coworker had refused to answer a question I had. I explained that I had repeated the question numerous times, so she either didn't want to answer it, or lacked the cognitive ability to understand it. From the immediate confrontational reaction of this person--who didn't even ask what my question was--it was clear that her coworker had already informed her of her version of the story. To avoid more frustration, I simply hung up. Here is the question the staff refused to answer: "If I am one of the statistical 2% who are unhappy with the result of this surgery, what recourse do I have?" If the office disputes this, they can post the unedited audio of the two conversations I had with the staff. Since I couldn't get an answer about the doctor's policy regarding negative surgical outcomes, I called the office the following day, a Friday late afternoon. I was told immediately, after identifying myself, that both my appointments for surgery had already been canceled, without anyone informing me of this decision. The first one was scheduled for the following Tuesday. The question that they refused to answer was, "If I'm one of the 2% with problems after the surgery, what is my recourse?"

I rarely give reviews because seldom do others impress me. Dr. Merkley and his team hit the ball…read moreoutside the park. I found myself at 60yrs. with cataracts. Mine were progressing quickly and interfering with all facets of my daily life from computers to driving. In choosing my doctor I needed a person who was an intellect in his profession. It is not natural to me to allow someone to start carving on my eye with a sharp object. He answered all my questions well and tolerated my quizzing him. I could see he was focused on solving the problem. Add to this a lovely personality. The guy laughs, smiles, and is just enjoyable to be around. He listens. He even answers his own office phone if no one is available. Which tells me treats his office as a team and all his patient's calls are important to him. He has good availability; I didn't find myself on a waiting list just to get an appointment. My surgeries were scheduled within a week. His office stayed on top of my insurance. Now it is all done and my eyes are better than new. Having my eye site back is a gift. Colors are now vibrant; I can see details far away. Dr. Merkley was referred to me by one of his peers, which tells me he is viewed within his own circles favorably. I strongly recommend Dr. Merkley, especially if you are a perfectionist like myself and expect a lot from a medical professional.

I had been interested in lens replacement surgery for some time due to the frustration of wearing…read moreglasses. LASIK would not give me the results I wanted with not needing to wear glasses anymore. Dr Grange sat and explained to me the benefits of lens replacement surgery with full details. I signed up right away and had both eyes done on the same day. I felt no pain through the quick procedure and only felt minor discomfort. That discomfort being staring at a bright light and feeling solution pour into my eyes. Medication given to me had me calm and relaxed so there was no issues. That day I went home and slept most of the day. Next morning, I was able to read my phone with no glasses. My vision improved everyday. My first follow up my vision was 20/20. Second follow up 20/15 and by last follow up my vision was 20/10. Best decision I could have made!

I'm about two weeks post-surgery, and I wanted to take my time with this review…read more Let me start by saying how impressed I am with Dr. Grange and his team. They're incredibly fast and efficient, but they also take the time to answer any questions or make any changes you might need. As a black and white person, I had expected just what I had read, but it wasn't "quite" as expected. On the day of surgery, I arrived an hour early and got a series of drops, four at a time. They told me it was painless, but the first eye I did experience some discomfort, which lasted about 24 hours. The next eye, I got one more drop of numbing liquid, and that did the trick. Everyone is different, so I can't say for sure if this will happen to you. I will say that the best way to spend the day of surgery is to sleep if you can. Mild pain relief is a must, and the healing process is as fast as described. I had a scratching feeling, but that went away in 24 hours. So far, the results have been great. I chose the best lenses so I could finally get rid of my glasses. Before, I had to wear them for everything. Two weeks out, I don't need glasses for anything, and you won't the next day! That said, it's not all roses. My current vision is around 20-25. Will it improve? Driving at night, I have bright rings around things like traffic lights! Some people say it will go away, while others say you get used to it. I'm a bit nervous because I love to travel, and I'm not comfortable driving at night right now. This is a process, and your mind needs time to adjust to the changes. I'll keep my positive attitude and see where this takes me. Since I haven't seen any other doctors, it's hard to compare, but I don't think you can go wrong with Dr. Grange and his staff. Any results I'm experiencing are a result of cataract surgery and not necessarily the way it was performed.
