If you find yourself thinking of going here or going back -- DON'T!! This place will turn on you in a hot second and degrade you while everyone there looks on. There are hidden rules customers aren't aware of until you unknowingly stumble onto one. Then watch out as they gang up on you. Their invoice is set up so you don't know what all the costs are. But the absolute worst part of my experience is the escalation of harassment directed toward me as I tried to defuse the situation. Make no mistake this can happen to you. Suggested brakes, rotors front tie rod front ballpoint. $1,053.00. Took it to my dealer, showed them my printout suggesting these repairs. I have used them multiple times since and have nothing but wonderful things to say. Repair prices are respectful, the service receipt is always itemized with the level of priorities always made clear on what is immediately recommended. STAY AWAY!!! I came into this place to get a front wheel cover put on. They called within an hour to tell me I needed almost a thousand dollars work that needed to be taken care of (none of which had anything to do with why I brought my car in) There were 5 or 6 things I needed including Transmission fluid flush @$189.95 plus tax (they claim the fluid was black) however when my mechanic tested the oil he showed me that it was orange and they had lied to me. These people also insisted that I needed a CV Axle Shaft at a price of $399 plus tax. My mechanic said eventually I will need this and we can just watch it for now. They also told me they could not do the oil change because whoever did it last tightened the oil filter cover too tight and I would have to pay for a new oil filter cover if they broke it. When I was done paying $245 for the front cover, I drove down the street to where I had my last oil change. The mechanic pointed out and showed me that my fluid was orange, not black as Master had written and told me. He also said I did not need a CV Axle Shaft immediately, he said we could just watch it. He also had no trouble getting the oil filter cover off. The list went on and on and it was decided that I was being taken for a ride. I submitted a complaint today at the BBB and I plan on telling everyone I know about these folks. I feel taken advantage of and I want people to know about this place. In my opinion, this is not a very reputable place. read more

They wanted to charge me $464 to repair a leaky exhaust flange that caused me to fail my safety inspection. I took my car to another local shop who fixed it for $164. Shawn's also gave me a $1000+ list of recommended services, most of which did not pertain to my safety inspection. Among them was a new air filter, which I just had replaced about two weeks ago. This tells me that they didn't look at the filter, just tacked it onto the recommendations to make some extra dollars on unnecessary services and products. It makes me question what else they did or did not actually look at before recommending. read more

I brought a car of mine there to have a carbonator worked on. They released it back to me and I kept smelling raw fuel. I brought it back and found out raw gas had been leaking on the engine This may have cased the car to catch on fire and put my family in danger. I would never return to this repair shop. The Masters on Fyler and Watson is honest and much more reputable. read more

My car needed one heater hose, a clamp, and 1 gallon of antifreeze and just happened to break down a half mile from this shop. After bringing it to the shop they wanted to replace all 4 heater hoses and mark up the price of parts 500%. Then after declining and telling them I will pay their diagnostic fee and happily tow my car to my mechanic, he started in with rude comments. Very unprofessional and super overpriced. Then, once I posted a review via facebook, their employee Eric M began with more insults and name calling. I am so glad I towed my car to my mechanics shop and didn't have to replace what I was told was broken. I stopped replying to the review, as the insults just kept pouring out. I loathe getting my car fixed almost as much as making a monthly car payment but these guys are trustworthy, friendly, fast, and professional. So far I've had a battery replaced, an inspection, and an AC re-charge and felt comfortable with each experience. Shawn and Diana were both excellent. I was driving from ABQ to Ann Arbor, Michigan on New Year's Eve Day 2018 when my drive axle began clattering. Breakdowns while driving cross-country are always unfortunate, but this time I was fortunate enough to breakdown at the I-44 exit 286 in St. Louis where I found Eric and Diana at Master Auto Repair. They did some great troubleshooting instead of just throwing parts at the car and I drove away with a new CV joint installed for only $286 and was able to make Ann Arbor on New Year's Eve. If you don't have roadside coverage they will come get you. They will even drive you somewhere for shopping/eating while your car is being repaired, but if you're a guy you'll likely want to hang around the shop chatting with Diana, a local girl very easy on the eyes. Master Auto Repair has restored my confidence in auto repair shops and if I have another breakdown I hope it will be on Hampton Avenue. read more

I've been to this shop 3 times since living in the south city area. The first was fine, a simple oil change. Then things got fishy. I had a flat tire and took it back to Master for a new tire. They replaced the one tire. Everyone I have talked to in the car industry said a shop should never replace just 1 tire, they should be done in pairs. They also told me on this visit that I needed about $1500 in additional work. I passed on that. I recently went back to get a new battery. They replaced the battery and never asked me what kind of battery I wanted so I'm assuming they just gave me the most expensive. They also told me I needed an additional $1000 in work. Again, I passed, but now I was curious. Some of the items they said I needed replaced the first time, they were now not mentioning. I was confused by this. How can you say I need axle work one time and then not mention it the next? Did it actually need to be fixed? I took my car to another shop for a second opinion. They did an overhaul and granted there were some things they agreed needed to be fixed, the second shop charged me less for three of the repairs than what Master wanted to charge for one of the repairs. The shop I had do the second opinion also said I didn't need to fix the things Master said needed repair. It just makes me think Master is a slimy shop trying to get the most $ out of customers. I'd rather drive way further to a shop I trust than ever return to Master. Use caution if you go to Master and I would recommend a second opinion on any work they tell you needs to be done. read more
