If you are a #MediMedi, i.e. you have #Medicare and #MediCal (Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid version), you WILL have to pay out of pocket expenses, because Dr. Meinhardt does not work with Medi-Cal and it's #LosAngelesCounty subsidiary #LACare. He is a good dermatologist, but his unwillingness to help the not so affluent, i.e. peeps who need financial help, renders him a not so good person, who focuses solely on the AFFLUENT. This review is long overdue! I first saw Dr Meinhart in spring of 2017. Out of nowhere I developed very irritated and painful, cystic hormonal acne in the year leading up to my wedding. I had seen a few other Dermatologists in LA who had just tried to push their own products on me or prescribe me different antibiotics that did not work. Dr. Meinhart not only prescribed me the correct medicine that cleared it up within weeks, but he also really understood the emotional toll that comes with bad acne and I really appreciated that. Over the years I have seen him for other skin related issues/ check ups. After having under eye fillers at a Medspa about a year ago, I was unhappy with the way I looked but I couldn't really put my finger on it - I just didn't look like myself. A few months ago I went to see Dr. Eric who right away was able to pin point and articulate exactly what I was not liking. Not only that but we discovered that the Medspa I went to had used a product that was not meant for that particular area. Right away he came up with a game plan to reverse the damage that had been done and start over again. Quite a complicated process that had to be tone bit by bit. This has involved many appointments of dissolving and replacing filler - each time Dr Meinhart instills me with so much confidence that he knows exactly what hes doing and I just always know I am in safe hands. I had heard that dissolving filler can be very painful but it was a breeze. After weeks of seeing him to fix this issue, I am so happy with the results and will truly NEVER let anyone else touch my face again. I have also done other facial treatments like Microneedling and Clear and Brilliant laser with him and have loved the results. I've now been seeing Dr. Meinhardt for well over 4 years, and I just had an experience that warrants an update to my review. I decided to get some Juvaderm injections to help with acne scarring. Juvaderm itself is a very safe substance, it's Hyaluronic Acid which occurs naturally in the body/skin. But, there are still risks to the procedure, which is why it's so important to get it done by experts. There are blood vessels in the face, and if any HA filler gets injected into one of those (or compresses it from the outside), it can cut off blood supply to portions of the skin and cause necrosis (cell death) which can be very very serious. No matter how skilled the doctor, there is still always a small chance that this will happen. But part of the expertise is in knowing what to do if and when it does happen. Right after my injections, everything seemed fine. But that evening I started noticing an unusual darkening of the skin in a specific area. I emailed Dr. Meinhardt a picture and he asked me to come back in immediately. He began injecting the area with a medication which dissolves the HA filler. This is what doctors are supposed to do if they suspect that filler may be blocking blood vessels. My case was very unusual in its presentation, but he was determined to prevent damage to my skin. He spent the next 3 or 4 hours monitoring me, checking my capillary refill time, re-injecting the area with the dissolving enzyme, massaging the skin, putting heat packs on the area and periodically sending photos of the area to a colleague of his (with my consent of course) to make sure he got a second opinion and was taking the right course of action. He did all this without an appointment, and he has a very busy schedule. He didn't charge me (or bill my insurance even though this was now an emergency procedure), and I can't be sure - but I'm almost certain that the dissolving medication costs a LOT of money. And he used a great deal of it on me without charging me a dime. Now the area seemed to be somewhat bruised by the dissolving injections (which is okay) but it still left open the possibility that some of the purplish color wasn't a bruise, but was vessel blockage. He wanted to be absolutely sure in the most complete sense that he was doing everything he possibly could for me to prevent cell death and/or scarring. So, he sent me home with his cell phone number. Not his Google Voice number, but the actual number to his iPhone. He wanted me to send him regular pictures, he called me at regular intervals and even FaceTimed me to have me show him how quickly my capillaries refilled when I pressed on it, the color, etc. This was on a Friday evening, and I could hear young kids in the background so I'm pretty sure he was at home with his family. If at any point he thought my skin was worsening, he was prepared to come into his office on a weekend and treat me. I understand that doctors have an incentive to try and limit their liability, but Dr. Meinhardt had only one goal - save my skin and make sure I was okay. I already signed the standard legal release before the procedure, and he knows that since I come from a family of doctors, I am not a patient who's likely to sue him, no matter what happens. He didn't care about any of that. His efforts were purely in the interest of my safety and well-being. Rare adverse events can happen to anyone. But only skilled doctors know how to address those events when they occur. My skin is still in the process of healing and I'm still in constant communication with Dr. Meinhardt. It looks like I'm probably going to make a full recovery. This was such an exceptional level of care and expertise that I felt morally obligated to share this with any prospective patients. Everything I said in my first review 4 years ago still stands. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say Dr. Meinhardt is probably one of the best doctors in the country. Not just in his dermatology expertise, but in his devotion to taking care of his patients. read more

I've been seeing dr meinhardt for a couple of years, I get microneedling treatments which I actually do recommend from him and also general skincare check ups which I do not. My issues are two-fold, the last time I had microneedling, the acne inquiry session part of the appointment where I wanted to address to root part of my acne seemed super rushed and he ended up just prescribing a higher dose of the medication I was already on. It did not work and felt like a very quick answer because he did not have time to see me or whatever. The specific question I had was why I had it accumulating only on my chin and certain areas but he didn't even really seem to have an answer just that maybe I got used to the meds and needed more. Second, I didn't get billed at the office which I almost always have been- I got billed through a letter at home. After calling in and saying I had been using the trentinoin cream at the higher dose to no avail, the office as well as he offered no response or remedy except to come in for another appointment and essentially pay another 160 dollars. Yea, I'm not doing that again. A personal note on the dr- he did this weird thing where he commented on the medication I was taking which I listed in confidential terms for the sole purpose of seeing if it reacted to anything they were giving me or caused acne etc. he started to question why I was taking certain meds for anxiety... thought that was really off putting. Let's do the first part of your job right first Doc and focus on skin and maybe leave the more complex field of the brain to the pros. read more

I paid to have them remove a mark under my eye. I paid $150 each time because he needed two times. So $300 to spent for nothing. It turns out when speaking to other dermatologists that they don't charge you over and over again they remove the mark. In addition, my insurance company paid them quite well except for one of the visits, because they did not send out the paperwork. I spent a lot of time with the insurance company even sending out their bill. Obviously, that is my job but I really do care. The Dr. is an incredibly nice guy and this is an incredibly stupid situation. The biller was very rude and questioned my integrity as she couldn't see the $300 payment I made. Then the doctor called me and explained that she was just talking about one service and wasn't looking for the $300. So I came in today and they wanted $180. However they never followed up. If you're in network with the insurance company and they have paid you for three services and then there's one that they paid nothing your billing department should get in touch with the insurance department that's not my responsibility. I went out of my way waiting days for appointment to see him again because I wanted to bring in more business and ended up walking out. Parking is a lot of fun there it's two dollars every 15 minutes. So they wasted my time with the service that I need it. I told them to call me when they sent in the paperwork because I didn't expect them to follow through. Once completed I would then call the insurance company and get them to pay for. I came in today because I'm having a problem with my back from surgery on my back and it still bleeding. I did not want to wait till Tuesday. Now I'll have to just see her wait another day or two or just go into urgent care at UCLA --------------------------------------------------- Take a look at the picture and decide if you want to spend that kind of money to get results that are acceptable. read more

I chose Dr. Meinhardt due to other Yelp reviewers talking about how patient he was in explaining and going through any questions you might have, and he was exactly that. From the first moment you walk in you feel reassured - the room is spacious, invited, uncrowded. Dr. Meinhardt was with another patient, but there was no one else waiting around. What I will say about the entire experience was that Dr. Meinhardt not only answered all my questions, asked me appropriate ones, and proved to be extremely reassuring, but also in my opinion better diagnosed disorders than other dermatologists I had seen in the past. My only advice for doctor visits is to generally go when you're at your worst - it's probably easier to diagnose. I didn't follow my own advice in this instance but Dr. Meinhardt still did a great job. Note: I had Blue Shield of California PPO which he accepts. I only mention this because I sometimes use Yelp to filter insurances. For what it's worth, when I called to make an initial appointment the receptionist made sure to confirm that my insurance worked with them. I've read stories on the New York Times about surprise out-of-network consultations from doctors and am thankful that Dr. Meinhardt seems like someone you can genuinely trust. read more

I suffered from really bad acne along my jawline and was trying every acne skin care product I could buy at Sephora . I've never had it so bad then I'm in my mid 20's it just decided to popped up. I saw 3 different dermatologists who told me it was an allergic reaction, or rosacea, and/or there wasn't much I could do. I didn't believe that the dermatologists really cared to help and just prescribed a cream to get me out. I decided to try one more time and found Dr. Meinhardt from the zocdoc app. I just have to say, he's been amazing! He saw it was acne but also told me it was due to stress and hormones (I've had major life changes in my life and this made sense). He put me on medication and completely changed my skin. I recommend him to anyone and everyone, he has been so great! It's been a process for sure, but he's reassured me that it was going to get better. He wrote me some prescriptions for topical treatment to help clear up my skin and when I got to CVS, he had not yet called it in so it was annoying to wait for that. On Yelp it appears that this business goes by Eric J Meinhardt and there is no California Dermatology Specialists, which I actually think is shady. You can even see in the "About Business" section on this page that his practice is called California Dermatology Specialists. This IS for the correct business and about the business overall rather than Dr. Sophia, please do not remove again. I want to preface this by saying that I did love Dr. Sophia at California Dermatology Specialists (I saw her, not Dr. Meinhardt), and that everyone in the office is very pleasant to speak with. I mostly just feel disappointed and not particularly looked out for. I went in for a mole check in November because I have a family history of melanoma and realized I should be getting checked more regularly. Dr. Sophia thought a mole looked suspicious, so she removed it and said she would send it for testing. A month later I get a very unexpected bill for $700 from the testing center. After weeks of back and forth with this office, my insurance, and the lab, I come to find out that my insurance sucks and I do in fact owe $700. Unfortunately the American health insurance system is very broken, not this office's fault. What left a bad taste in my mouth is that I was not consulted at all about whether I was comfortable with the cost before the fact. I am familiar with how doctor's offices work, and I know that a doctor is able to see a patient's insurance and what it will/will not cover up front. I would very much have appreciated knowing what this would cost in advance. My mole was also sent to a very expensive lab, which while in network does not have a lower contracted price with my insurance (I was not given a choice for which lab to send the sample to). The test came out benign which make me feel even worse (and no, the office never called me to tell me my results - I had to call to ask after I received the shocking bill). I don't feel like I was looked out for or considered as a patient and a human being. The office did try to help me sort out what was going on, but honestly there was nothing they could do after the fact. Where they could have made a difference (and didn't) was before the sample was ever tested. I would very much have appreciated more of an effort to be considerate of my finances. read more

Dr. Meinhardt is the 6th dermatologist I've seen since I moved to LA. All the others were such a waste of time and money - they all pushed unnecessary, often very expensive products and none of them helped resolve my skin issues. One of them actually made my skin condition so much worse and basically forced me to get a mole biopsy (to make more money). When Dr. M saw my skin condition, he knew exactly how to resolve the issue and also recommended me to get a second opinion on my biopsy since he didn't think the results were conclusive. Surprise, surprise, the second opinion came back and the report said I was fine. I've seen Dr. M a few times now and every time, he's been so nice, professional and most importantly, effective. Dr. Meinhardt has renewed my faith in dermatology! From his bedside manner to his treatments to his patience - I am so pleased to have him as my doctor. I came to him with the worst acne I had since high school, and he understood my firm disinterest in Acutane and found the perfect combination of products and prescriptions to treat it. I have been seeing Dr. Meinhardt for over a year now and thought it was time for me to write a quick review. Echoing what others have said, his office is efficient and professional, and I almost never have to wait. He has treated me for a wide range of issues (and some cosmetic things as well) and have always found him to be super through but non-reactive striking a balance between being informative and not being burdensome. Micheala at the front desk is also super helpful. I also appreciate a doctor who has embraced technology -- he has a wonderful patient portal and online booking. All in all, definitely go see him for your derm needs. Also he takes my insurance so that's a huge win win. My first bad review on yelp, sad the day had to come! I always give people and businesses a chance to explain before I judge, often I give them more than just one chance. Dr. Meinhardt and his office didn't take them, in fact they dug a deeper hole with each conversation. I went to see Dr. Meinhardt for a simple skin condition. We're not talking cancer here so I choose a new, young business to support as I know how high student debt is of most young doctors starting out. My appointment lasted less than 10 minutes, straight forward diagnosis and treatment. I was told that if I needed to come back for follow up I can just walk in and he'll take care of me there and then. I took Dr Meinhardt up on that what seemed a generous offer and a month later I received the bill in the mail. $267.95. I thought it was a slightly high for a 10 minute appointment and a 5 minute follow up but paid up as it was not completely excessive. However a couple of weeks later I was sent another bill for the same amount, for a total of $535.90. I called in to make them aware of their mistake of sending out a duplicate charge but to my surprise they very much intended to do so. I asked them how this could be in any relation to the treatment received and I was told that the amount is so high because they have to overcharge the insurance as they will only receive a fraction of that amount finally. It was obvious from the bill though that my insurance didn't cover the treatment and the entire amount was my responsibility. I made her aware of the obvious fact again that I am not the insurance negotiating but in fact a cash paying patient. She didn't seem to be able to grasp the difference and suggested I'd call the insurance or get better insurance. I Felt like the conversation was above her head and I asked to be called back by the doctor at his convenience. Unfortunately I never received a call back but one month later another bill arrived, this time for $213.32 and the indication that I was late on my payment. I called the office one more time and I was told that they were happy to offer me a discount of $54. $481.27 was still beyond acceptable amount for the service received and I asked to have the doctor call me back at his earliest convenience to discuss the inflated bill...Needless to say he never called. Beware of this doctor, a very experienced and reasonable dermatologist is just up the road, Jack Silvers. If you have to see Dr. Meinhardt ask in advanced what the cash price will be, make sure you get it in writing so that if the insurance won't cover you're treatment you are covered because this office sure won't look out for you. read more

Dr. Eric Meinhardt and his assistant were wonderful. Their office is stylish and comfy and the experience was painless, as doctor viisits go. I've seen many dermatologists over the years, and the general attitude most doctors have towards their patients and practice is that of shepherd/sheep, cramming as many people as they can in a given day, long waits, and little to no consideration of the patients concern, eyeball the problem, write a prescription... Dr. Meinhardt listened with care to my explanation of my issue and my personal history, helped me understand how his diagnosis was reached, and left me feeling very sure and content, hopeful that after following his recommend regimen my issue would resolve. I have had issues with my skin for many years, and most visits to a dermotologist leave me with more questions than answers, and more often than not what they prescribe doesn't help or doesn't help much. I was recommended to Dr Meinhardt by a friend. I turned 40 and broke out for the first time since I was a teenager. I tried everything I could at home to get rid of my acne. When all else failed I went to Dr Meinhardt. I was so impressed with his office. I was lucky to find street parking, give yourself a couple extra minutes to find parking. His staff was very sweet and friendly. I didn't have to wait more than a few minutes. Dr Meinhardt has EXCELLENT bedside manner. I'm sure he hears the same acne sob story ten times a day, but he listened to my concerns and addressed them appropriately. He told me about all my options, from the most conservative treatment to more aggressive courses. He also told me about various lasers that they have in their office. What impressed me most is that he wasnt pushy at all. He actually recommended that we start out conservative and if we don't get good results we can try more aggressive options. He also told me about different suggestions for skin care. Some that he sold in his office, but told me I can buy them there or another place. And the best part, the suggestions all worked! When I was a teenager, I struggled on and off with mild to moderate breakouts (as would anyone going through the phases of growing up), but mostly had pretty clear skin after I turned 17. All of a sudden when I turned 25, I started to have really severe hormonal/cystic acne on my neck, chin, and most of the right side of my face. It looked like I was falling apart, and apparently was 15 again. Not only was it incredibly painful, but also truly embarrassing because it was not something makeup would even begin to cover. I tried EVERYTHING to try to make it go away - it seemed like skin care was so much easier for everyone else, and impossible for me. I spent hundreds of dollars on products that seemed to work for everyone else, but never worked for me. I made sure all of my makeup brushes were always clean, changed my diet, and even tried not wearing makeup at all for awhile. I made an appointment, and went to see Dr. Meinhardt - I was able to get into an appointment within a couple of weeks of calling. The office is super clean, and the staff were very kind/friendly. My appointment did not take long, however Dr. Meinhardt was attentive/knowledgeable and explained what I was dealing with in a way where I didn't feel abnormal or weird. He discussed all of the options with me on how to help, and prescribed a series of medications (both topical, and one oral medication). With the understanding that it would get worse before it got better, I began my regimen and about 3 months later began to see results. I know what works for me now, and this was one of the best things I invested in. I went into my 27th birthday feeling like a champ, and with confidence. First time and won't be the last. Quiet, modern office. Extremely professional staff and the doc has an amazing disposition (not to mention flawless skin). Got a same day appointment for a kenalog injection. Dr, Meinhardt also seems well versed in microneedling. I'm going back for a consultation on that. Maybe RF microneedling if they have it. Easy underground parking. Costs money though and I don't think they offer validation, but the attendant accepts card. Win. read more
