A couple of weeks after my initial review was posted, out of the blue I received a gift basket (a wine basket with no wine, just crackers, etc) as an apology for the issues that took place when scheduling my driveway demolition and replacement. I didn't feel that was an adequate response given the issues I outlined in my initial review, but I let it go and moved on. Fast-forward to 4 months later, when I received an email from Ergeon requesting to try and "make things right" by providing a free sealant on my driveway. I took a look at the bid and the regular price for this service is $1100 (why wasn't I offered sealant when my driveway was originally installed? But that's another story.) I graciously accepted this olive branch from Ergeon and the sealant was scheduled for the following week. When the contractor arrived, he explained the process very thoroughly to me, powerwashed the driveway on the first day and then came back the next day to put the sealant on. (just a guy with a barrel on his back and a pump sprayer - didn't seem to be worthy of an $1100 price tag, but OK.) Sealant complete, all was done in a very timely manner and with a great contractor. I appreciate the work he got done. I've updated to 3 stars from 1 star, just for this nice touch of service that was added. Ergeon did a top notch job on building my fence in spite of arriving very late (after 3pm) to do a 40' section. I was told this wouldn't take them long but it did take 3 workers about 5 hours to complete. One guy was holding up a flashlight in one hand and a saw in the other until I brought out a floodlight tree on a stand and he was very grateful. Good guys all 3 but they really should do a better job of scheduling small projects with longer ones or do longer projects first then do the touch up work later. But the project manager did follow through on my request the next day to come back for some details to be resolved and he got someone back on two trips to my house to make sure I was 100% satisfied before letting me sign off on the project! I reached out to Ergeon via Yelp. I was contact by Marc immediately and set me up for a video consult. I showed Marc the property over a video call. Marc showed me various options in their tool to select from -- from type of frame, to fence board designs. Marc had my best interest in mind, which in my case was cost and look (horizontal boards). Unfortunately due to city restrictions, I was not able to go ahead with my project, but my experience with Marc was worth noting. At any point, I did not feel pressured or rushed, and I was allowed to have the time needed to make my decision. I used Ergeon for a driveway. They were easy to deal with, price was fair, and the work was great -- until it wasn't. :( Five stars for the work, 0 stars for the surprise upcharge. But in the end, they made good! At issue was an extra charge for removing roots. A -lot- more root than any of us expected but they did a large upcharge only after the work was done. I protested and in the end, they issued a correction and I am satisfied. There were some minor issues around responsiveness and a mess but I am very satisfied overall. Five years from now, the concrete will still be here and that was done very well. read more

It's been about 2 months since the installation of our first Ergeon fence. It's holding up really well and still looks great (see photos attached). The experience with the initial quote process was very streamlined and profession. It was very convenient to setup the video conference online to work with our customer specialist, Inaki. He walked us through the process of assessing the damaged fence using a live video feed straight from our cell phone. He was responsive in providing us with a contract that clearly itemized the work to be done and what to prepare for on the day of the installation. It was also convenient to be able to have Ergeon split the contract for separate billing with my neighbor. After the contract was signed by all parties, the project was handed off the the project manager to coordinate the installation. We worked with Cesar who arranged the scheduling, pre-inspection, and getting the dig permit from PG&E. My experience was similar to Jonathan C's review. Although the project coordination didn't go as smoothly as we would have liked, Cesar did make an effort to compensate us for the delays by offering a $150 discount off the quote, which helped. What really made the wait worth it was the installers, Francisco and Javier. They did an excellent job and we were really impressed with the finished product. They carefully measured and aligned all the boards to the frame and all the panels were squared off evenly. Definitely 5 stars for the workmanship and the pre-sales estimate, but had to remove a star for the delays and lack of communication on the project scheduling/status. Just offering constructive feedback and an opportunity for improvement in the future. In the end, I'm happy with the workmanship that I'm now considering having another section of fence replaced by Ergeon. Hope the next project works out even better the 2nd time, so stay tuned for the next review to see if we can get to 5 stars. read more

During all the storms we have had my fence blew over. I was able to quickly get reach out to Ergeon and online was able to do the initial quote and measurements for my two back fences on either side and a gate on my driveway. A gentleman came out in a few days to do an onsite verification of measurements, etc. There were able to reuse my quality hardware from my old gate. Once we got through the storms, work was completed within two days instead of three. The price I felt was fair was I had had my two front fences rebuilt by another (now out of business) company fours years ago. Now just wanting for a couple dry weeks so the new wood can be preserved. We needed to install a gate in the driveway and a door for the side of the house. Overall, my experience with Ergeon has been great. However, some suggestions. 1. Do an in-person consult when you're trying to get the quote finalized. The initial consult was done via video call which was fine because I was still looking around for the best fit. We did the "meeting-before-formal-quote" as a video call (which I was iffy about), so when the installer came to the house and did the actual markings, I was taken back by how our video chat was so not what I wanted. I think if you're a visual person like me, it'll be so much more helpful to doing at least one of the consults in person. 2. Be there when the installer comes to do the work! (I was told I didn't need to be there, but I did.) When our installer got there, his understanding of the job was very different from what was written on the paper. So I had call the Project Manager (you get assigned one) a few times to get things straightened out. I just couldn't give a 5 star based on the fact that there were a number of clarifications needed. HOWEVER, our installer had some great insights and suggestions for what should be done and what's realistic, so that helped when we needed to make adjustments, my project manager worked diligently as the middleman between me and the installer, and because there were some delays in getting the project done, they were flexible with the final walkthrough. I am very happy with how the gate turned out, so yes, if you're looking for a metal-framed double door gate, I'd totally recommend Ergeon. read more

I was looking for a replacement driveway gate as our old one was in dire need of repair. I contacted a few companies but Alan at Ergeon was not only prompt, clear, and timely with any adjustments I asked for, he also helped with putting quotes for some other projects we were thinking about for a future date. The price was competitive, slightly better than the average, but the timing and materials were better and the warranty as well. Everything got scheduled out within about two weeks including having pg&e do their inspection and the install was completed in half the quoted time. Need to remove and rebuild the 6' side yard fence between us and neighbor, and extend it some between the houses. Ergeon offered us a "virtual" estimate using google meet. They were nice professional during meeting, but I think the virtual back and forth simply didn't work out. After walking around showing video, we were told with no uncertainty that between our houses, we could only have a 3 foot fence in San Jose on the shared side yard. I went and looked it up at San Jose - this appears false according per San Jose's bulletin. Between houses on the property line 7 feet is allowed (screenshot attached): https://www.sanjoseca.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/25993/636690741492170000 I'm still totally confused why Ergeon insisted that only 3 feet is allowed in San Jose between neighbors on our shared side yard. At least they did give an estimate - but said we would need a special permit in San Jose for a fence over 3 feet between houses. Lesson learned, I would not do a virtual estimate again. If Ergeon sent people to the property, I feel like we might have a different experience. At least we would understand. Virtual is simply not a substitute for an in-person communication. Pros: - Eregon is super nice and professional - Their Estimate seemed reasonable Cons: - Virtual meeting didn't work for us - Difficult or impossible to see documents they are sharing on the phone - Communication with video didn't feel like it communicated the location and what we were really trying to replace Nice company and people, but without a real estimator seeing the property in-person and explaining things, this is a no-go. UPDATE 3/14/2022 - Received a nice call back from Ergeon today explaining that there was house set-back confusion during our virtual session which is why they only would install a 3-foot side yard fence. After further reviewing, a full 7 foot fence IS allowed along our shared side yard without a special permit. I definitely appreciate the call back and follow up to clear up confusion. Ergeon seems like a quality company that follows through. I still do suggest getting a real person to estimate on-site and avoid frustration and confusion that can happen with phone based virtual estimates. Changed from 2-4 stars because I really like companies that follow through and fix things when there is confusion. read more

For a process that was entirely on-line I was at first a bit skeptical as I prefer working with local service providers. However, the estimate was significantly lower than my local options so I pursued work with Ergeon. I found the staff very responsive and patient with issues trying to coordinate with the neighbor sharing the fence. Once we signed the agreement it was promptly scheduled. The men that built the fence were hard workers and got an 80 foot fence done in 2 days. My only issue was some confusion by the builder about how to install the tree box portion of the fence (one box would have prevented my access to my tree).
