This is one of the worst companies I have ever worked with. The sales guy was amazing. He was available to answer all my questions. From there, it was all downhill. The installer was the one who came to do a pre-inspection. He told me only one thing changed, but the company called and claimed he said many things changed, and I had to argue with them. That should have been my first red flag. The sales guy had also told me the fence would be installed within two weeks of my signing the contract, but it ended up being 6 weeks! Once the sales guy got the sale, he stopped taking my calls and it went to a project manager. The project manager was unreachable. When I asked him to schedule a call, he would not respond or would call me back whenever was convenient for him, which usually was when I was in a work meeting and could not answer. This was the case throughout the whole project, until the bill became due. The installer could not do anything without the project manager's approval, which created delays with the project whenever any tiny thing needed to be changed. The installer also did not really think through the project, but just threw a fence up. The installer installed the fence posts right next to the sidewalk and the fence slats would have been over the property line. I spent hours trying to reach the company to discuss it, and then trying to make them understand this isn't allowed! This is common sense, and the law. Not only that, but they did things not in the contract without asking me, even though I was home the whole time, and then tried to charge me for them! And when I asked them to come back to complete issues with the work, like neglecting to remove a post from the old fence and fixing a hole they left in the fence, they argued with me some more about why they shouldn't have to! They finally did fix some of the problems, but I finally just decided to fix the rest of the problems myself-- some of the fence boards are crooked, for example. They argued with me over every little thing. It was awful! And extremely stressful. I do not recommend this company, and would never hire them again. read more

This is a Palo Alto based company that is a middle man for smaller subcontractors. It is not a local Oakland company as this listing says. I called to schedule a quote and had to talk to several "departments" - intake, then sales. After that, they would identify the local contractor. I prefer super small local businesses rather than a middle man company. read more

These folks cannot replace any wood fence pole - they can only install a new wood fence. As such, for example, if one fence only needs a pole replacement and another fence needs to be completely replaced, you cannot hire them (unless you want to hire two separate fence companies) since they will want to completely replace both fence and not help you save money by repairing the one fence pole. Most other fence companies will do the pole replacement and fence replacement so pole replacement is possible (and can be done right). read more

I went through great reviews in Yelp and everywhere for this company. The quote was competitive and with the good reviews, I went ahead. But the disappointment started as soon as a project manager was assigned to me. They initially said it will take two weeks to schedule the install and as soon as I approved the quote project manager told it will take 3 to 4 weeks minimum. Next problems started as soon as theinstallation started. They were providing pressure, treated wood for everything not redwood, we were never given an option to choose redwood and PT during quote. We said OK to that because at that point we cannot go back. Then they started making the fence and I discovered a 4 inches gap below the fence, which is definitely a big problem. It was because of the fact they were providing smaller wood and when I asked, they said that's what there is in the quote. I did not know whether I needed to choose 2x6 or 8 or 12 during the quote nor I was given any option. It's not my job to measure and find out what size of wood is required. All I requested to have a good fence and whatever is required for that. It is the job of the quote writing person to tell me my options. During installation when I requested them to fix it, they said they will patch it with extra wood and putting four pieces of 2 x 4 they charged extra 600. Whatever we were saying every time hearing only one complaint that it was there in the quote but the PM never understood the fact that during asking for a quote, we did not ask for a fence, which is not complete. So basically, they provided a lower level of quote with cheap material and incomplete work and if you want to make it good, they will charge you a lot of money during the installation. This is not a good company strategy. Seems a scam. During providing the quote they should tell what the options are. I should not be telling a good fence company that I need a fence which touches the ground and not have 6" gap. Also the workmanship is not up to the mark at all. They put dry concrete and put water from top which is very unprofessional way of doing it and make the job bad as it can not make good concrete. My neighbor called me in half way and the level was way way off. They fixed it after we told. But we are not supposed to check this kind of thing from a good company. (I checked in the quote it doesn't say it has to be level :). I am glad they didn't ask extra money for making the fence straight. Then They cut the kick board wherever they found the old post concrete. Its basic that they will break old concrete post. I checked the quote also doesn't say it has to be a full uncut board though. Also, I understand the problem happens, but the way it was handled during the installation is very unprofessional. I was repeatedly told this is what I have in quote. Or it could be one of a case for me. All I know this is my biggest review in yelp ever. And I haven't seen this kind of work from similar companies and I work in number of construction projects. read more

A nightmare from beginning to end. Our project concerned fences separating a church and preschool from two residential properties, with payment divided. Most of the project was to be paid for by a state grant expiring in August 2025. Ergeon was incompetent and erratic, and was ultimately unable to complete the project: * From the time we got the first quote in November 2024 through July 2025, we had five separate project managers. * The quotes and project specs we received were wrong about where the fence was to be built and who was responsible for paying for each section. It took four garbled and erroneous quotes, with repeated delays, to get an accurate quote. * We contracted for an 8-foot fence, which requires a Berkeley, CA permit. We were assured in February Ergeon would handle the permitting process. It turned out IT FORGOT TO APPLY FOR A PERMIT until the end of April. In July, the city notified us it wouldn't even consider the permit application because Ergeon didn't submit the correct form and didn't attach 11 required supporting documents. * Ergeon confessed it had no experience with Berkeley's permitting process and would not be able to proceed with an 8-foot fence, leaving us high and dry six weeks before the grant was to expire. Incredibly, Ergeon's website claims its "Berkeley team" handles the Berkeley permitting process "with zero hassle." We reluctantly agreed to go with Ergeon's November proposal for a 6-foot fence, which doesn't need a permit. * Two weeks later, with four weeks before grant deadline, Ergeon sent a new quote for a 6-foot fence THAT WAS 40-50% HIGHER THAN ITS ORIGINAL 6-FOOT QUOTE FROM NOVEMBER. We asked Ergeon to charge us the original price because the delay was entirely its responsibility. Ergeon didn't respond. We were fortunate to find another fence company able to do the project before the grant deadline. We later found out that Ergeon is an all-remote company that doesn't use in-house employees. In some cases, our project managers were located in other countries. There is no "Berkeley team" and our contacts had no local knowledge. Project managers did not visit the site. Quotes are based on photos and satellite imagery. Quotes are generated by Ergeon's algorithm, which may explain the Uber-style surge pricing on our July 6-foot fence quote. A single boilerplate permit application is used nationwide, which doesn't work with complicated requirements. Stick with local companies with experienced management, knowledge of the area and longstanding relationships with trusted crews.- read more

This was a lesson in aggravation. Within weeks of installation, I've had to use a crow bar to open one gate. The hardware is mismatched and put in poorly--rattles, hinges are backwards, ground latch does not line up. It's like everything they go mess up, they did. Worse yet, starting in June I've placed at least a half-a-dozen calls and been consistently bullshitted. "We'll check with warranty and get back to you" is the typical line. Never once has anyone called back to make an appointment. I had my neighbor redo their shabby work and the gates now are fine. I requested service to build a fence. It was a challenging job in that there was vegetation and varying grades. Ergeon reps came out twice to measure and plan. Once done, they sent me a comprehensive quote in an interactive pdf with 3D graphics. They started the job within 3 days following my approval. The crew was hard working and skilled. They got the job done in 3 days. It looks great and built well. Post job, their admin service was exceptional. I had one issue needing attention and they handled it well and to my satisfaction without hesitation.
