New beautiful look, same low grade food - 2 stars!…read more I arrived excited but I left angry. I saw the new restaurant and I was hopeful. The old place, Ming Tree, was pretty bad. After commenting about being happy that there's a new restaurant in this space, I was informed (by Mi) that this is basically the same place but it was "re-branded". Mi's Eatery is technically a new business with a new interior, a new name, a new logo, a new POS system - it looks really nice. It also has a second business in the same space for tea, smoothies, and Boba drinks called "Where 2 Tea". Unfortunately, they've adopted the same old food menu, most of the same staff (according to Mi), the same sad looking turtles, and a weird attitude along with some perplexing rules for customers. If they spent as much attention to the food as the new décor, they might really have something great. But sadly, this is not the case. The 3 things that irritated me the most were the food, the seating rules, and the captive Painted Turtles. GOOD: 1. The décor is beautiful. 2. Everything looks clean and organized. 3. The food comes out fast. 4. The stir-fry type foods are obviously made fresh & it comes out piping hot. 5. The Hot Sour Soup was good. The Egg Rolls tasted good too (but they were cold). 6. The prices are reasonable. 7. Parking is easy. BAD: 1. NO FULL SERVICE: There is NO "full-service" in this fancy new space "for now". If you want to dine-in, they yell out your name, and you pick-up your cafeteria tray of food inside to-go containers with plastic flatware & sauces in little plastic packs. It definitely doesn't match the fancy new décor. (I predict there will never be full service.) 2. SEATING RESTRICTIONS: I was told that I couldn't sit in the large main dining room with my food. That's only for the tea and smoothie drinkers. Really? I was the ONLY person in the restaurant on a snowy winter night! So I had to sit in the small side room like a little kid getting a time out. Any other place would happily let you sit where you want in an empty restaurant. This was very disrespectful to me as a first time visitor and as a paying customer, definitely turned me off and made me angry. 3. POOR COMMUNICATION: I had a million questions about the new place but the main woman could not speak well, I could hardly understand her. It was so bad, I finally gave up with my questions. But the other woman (standing right next to her) had perfect grammar. Why wasn't she the one talking to customers? My wife is from Peru, South America so I have sympathy for people with accents. But you need to understand your customers and they need to understand you. Put your best communicators front & center. 4. NO FLAVOR: My Mango Smoothie had ZERO taste of mango. It was okay. But it had a weird artificial factory candy type of taste...but no hint of mango whatsoever. 5. COLD FOOD: My pork egg rolls tasted decent but they were cool! Come on, cold food? 6. LAME ENTRE: My Beef Garlic meal had wimpy portions of beef (see photo), big over-sized chucks of green peppers (see photo), and I couldn't taste any garlic. Basically, this was an amateur green pepper stir fry with beef flavor and some canned mini-corns & water chestnuts - poorly executed & a waste of money. I threw most of it away. I didn't even save it for my Mastiff. I was actually angry about the food they foisted on me. 7. SAD TURTLES: The poor turtles are still there (see photos). The tank is now clean but they have an undersized light propped up with a pitcher and an empty plastic food container. No UV light anywhere, no plants, etc. I feel very sorry for them. 8. INCONSIDERATE RULES: Weird seating rules. The big fancy room - no food allowed, only drinks. I bought a smoothie (from Where 2 Tea) and food (from Mi's Eatery). Despite buying a specialty drink, they still made me sit in the little room. Strange. 9. POOR SERVICE: The general vibe is unfriendly, no smiles anywhere. And yelling my name out when my food came out - really? One of the 2 staff couldn't walk 15 feet and put it on my table? I was right in front of them. And I'm sure they saw that I have major health problems and I have a hard time walking, limping, and sitting down. Yelling out my name when I was staring at them was actually kinda funny, like a vintage SNL skit. 10. GASTROINTESTINAL SIDE EFFECTS: I've been on the toilet ever since I came home from eating this stuff. This is the only thing I ate all day. (And I'm notorious for being able to eat nearly anything.) 11. DONT DO IT: I recommend that you only come here if you have no standards for the food you put in your mouth. Finally - amazingly - I saw a steady stream of people picking up to-go orders. I don't understand how anyone in Champlin and Anoka thinks this stuff is good, especially since there are several excellent Asian restaurants nearby (for example, Ginger Café or Bamboo Village about 5 minutes north). Personally, I won't spend another dime here.

This review is going to be difficult to write because I have such mixed feelings. My last rating…read morewas a five-star review and parts of my wife's and I experience merit another five stars, but parts of the same experience merit a one-star. And that makes it difficult! Let's start with the positive... Their prime rib continues to be fantastic. It's meaty, flavorful, and juicy. After having some prime rib specials at other restaurants, I can really see that they quality varies. In addition, Dehn's dinner comes with excellent Parker-house rolls and butter, cup of au jus, and a baked potato -- all of which is good. It also comes with soup or salad. Their Beef Barley soup is one of the best version of beef barley soup that I've ever had. It's loaded with ingredients, the broth has a deep flavor and I have always enjoyed their version of it. So far, this is five star territory. However, on to the not so good... I ordered the prime rib medium rare and it was clearly medium to medium well done. Honestly, if you want medium rare, medium well done is a big disappointment. I asked the waitress for a more rare piece and when she returned she told me that the chef said the piece I got was from the center of the roast and was the rarest piece they had. Although they took $8 off the price, it was not a great experience and the meat just could have been much more juicy and tasty if they had cooked it properly. But there is more. My wife order the fried chicken and for the third time in a row, they said they didn't have it. (Dehn's, if you don't carry it, either take it off the menu or tell your guests about it before they order). My wife went with the grilled chicken breast, which arrived looking like and tasting like either a frozen piece of chicken, or a bad airline meal (for those of you who can remember that). It was really tasteless and dry. In addition to all of that, we waited 15 minutes to be seated in the nearly empty restaurant because (we were told) they were short staffed. In fact, there seemed to be one waitress and one kitchen staff person for the restaurant. Service was slow (although friendly by the person who wasn't really a waitress). So what's up with Dehn's? The area around the restaurant is turning from farm land to housing. The hours of the restaurant have been cut severely and they are now only open for dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. My gut tells me that they are "caretaking" the restaurant and that although they have been open since 1958, I doubt they are going to see 2028.

Salad was good and the house blue cheese dressing is good. Baked potato done for easy eating and the insides were soft and flavorful. Hot dinner rolls too. Service was excellent and they even had a group of 40 in the back room. Ambiance is old time supper club. The value for the money is good. Give this place a try!
