We were actually looking for the distillery that was supposed to be in same area and saw this winery. Turns out the distillery was at the same place. It looked empty but we decided to go inside the tasting room and to our surprise there were several people at the counter tasting and it was really cute inside. A beautiful wooden table and chairs were right when we walked in. We decided to sample the wines and the Chardonnay and the Cabernet were delicious!! They have many different wines they make and you can choose 6 for $10. We then asked about what the distillery makes and they make brandy and tequila. You can only buy the spirits there they do not sell anywhere or ship. I bought the red and white wine and a bottle of the bourbon barreled tequila. The young guy behind the counter was very sweet and helpful. Definitely glad we stopped here and you should too!!

What a great little vineyard! We arrived just as they were opening. There were grapes being loaded into the presses which we were invited to try. We chose to have a wine tasting and, really, none of it was bad! We each took home 2 bottles of excellent wine. The bartender was amazing and the tasting was reasonably priced, as were the bottles. Will definitely return whenever I'm in the area.

Easily accessible off I-64 with tastings for purchase. Must say they have remarkably cute labels on their sweet wine collection. Small area inside and a disengaged staff member this visit, questions annoyed him and we left empty handed. When weather permits the grounds look amazing and a outside sip would be a nice event.

Equus Run was a pleasant surprise to the Kentucky wine scene. The grounds are beautiful and inside minimal with rustic accents. They grow the Chardonnay, Pinotage, and Cabernet Franc on the grounds; all other grapes are brought in and finished on site. Their tasting was $10 for (6) tastings which was very modestly priced. The staff warmed up to our group which was great to share the background of the winery, recommendation of wines, and other events the winery has to offer. The group's favorite was the Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinotage. I highly recommend stopping by if looking for a good winery in the Lexington area.

Lexi was awesome in explaining the different wines - delish- beautiful setting!! We will be back!

This is a former tobacco farm converted to a very scenic Winery/Vineyard with some good wines. Found this on a recent trip based on it's reviews (thanks fellow reviewers) so we picked up lunch and headed there for a tasting. We bought Shakin the Blues (blueberry), Grenache Noir and Bella Rosso (a Port style), and had a bottle of Reisling for (a long!) lunch. This appears to be a popular place but there was no wait at the tasting hut. The grounds are very scenic, surrounded by horse country.

Had a great visit to the winery. Lexi was very friendly and made our trip very informative as she went through our tasting describing the wines perfectly. Highly recommend the winery for visit!

We had a great visit to Equus Run to celebrate July 4th. The 4 of us have very different likes for wines, this winery was able to provide something for all of us. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming! The grounds and gorgeous and having a kitty is a bonus! Definitely will return on our next visit to the bourbon trail.

Looking for a quaint, relaxing place to enjoy time with friends? I highly recommend Equus! This local vineyard produces its own wine, located slightly outside of Georgetown. I've tried pretty much all the wine they offer and they have all been delicious. I recommend the Grenache Noir. They also offer some snacks, including a nice charcuterie plate. In the warmer months, there is usually a live band playing ( I believe on Sundays?). There is plenty of outside seating, but many bring their own chairs to have a picnic or social gathering with friends. The garden is beautiful in the spring and summer, all also grown by the Vineyard owner Cynthia. Needing to stretch your legs? You are free to take a self-guided tour throughout the grounds. I believe there is also a guided tour available to see the "behind the scenes" of wine making. Parking is easy and pl;entiful. Also, it's not far at all. From the Hamburg area, it takes me around 20 minutes at most to get here.

Strongly recommend taking a tour! Cynthia, the owner did such an amazing job at explaining all the differences in their wines and why they make them certain ways. Not only was the wine good, but it it was so much fun walking around their large property and going to the amphitheater and the creek. Everybody was so welcoming and we loved the atmosphere, will definitely be back!

I'm by no means a sommelier, but I love their wine! Everyone who worked was so knowledgeable and passionate about wine during our tastings, it was infectious and made for a great experience! Also I've music every Sunday is amazing and basically guarantees my return. The Equine Merlot was my favorite!

The 1800s era mansion is absolutely gorgeous and they have done a wonderful job at restoring it and keeping it as it was nearly 200 years ago. Everyone is always so hospitable and friendly. It was actually more than I wanted (there would be more distilleries to visit that day) and I didn't even finish them. The choice of which 4 to sample was mine, assisted by the knowledgeable and patient bartender, and I chose two from their standard small-batch bourbon collection (Toasted Oak and High Rye Blue Corn) and two single-barrels from the reserves: French Oaked and Spanish Oaked. It's interesting what a difference there was between the French and Spanish oak flavors. I started at the bar where the bartender gave me a brief intro to the whiskies I'd be sampling, then moved to a comfortable seating area. I liked the room, with a mix of high tables with stools and upholstered sofa seating areas with throw rugs. Mellow jazz was playing and the walls were adorned with paintings, landscapes and citiscapes. A nice place to relax for a bit. I liked the Elkwood Reserve French Oaked very much and bought a bottle for $110. That's a lot, until you realize that at 121 proof that's equivalent to $72 at 80 proof. Funny math maybe, but that's how I justified the expense! When I got home and tried the bottle it was just as good as I remembered, so no regrets.

The property itself is absolutely beautiful, and our tour guide, Cristy, was incredibly knowledgeable and informative. Before we got started, she made sure to go over important safety tips, which I really appreciated. I will say, out of all the distillery tours I've been on, this one was definitely the most challenging physically. If you're bringing older adults or anyone with limited mobility, just keep in mind that there are some tight spaces, steps, and stairs throughout the tour. At the end of the tour, we were led into a speakeasy-style tasting room, which was such a neat atmosphere! Our tasting included several samples, chocolate, and an Old Fashioned. After the tasting, we were taken through to the gift shop, which had some unique souvenirs. We decided to grab a few drinks at the bar and hang out for a bit before heading out. Surprisingly, Cristy was there to greet us again and even gave us some great drink recommendations! Overall, we definitely recommend the experience! Just be mindful of the physical demands of the tour if you or someone in your group has limited mobility.

So big in fact that the parking lot is across the street. It was very crowded. I parked and walked over to explore the extensive grounds. Many of the buildings are old, the castle dating from 1887, with distilling at the location since 1819, with an 18 year break from the start of Prohibition, and an even longer break from 1972-2016. The site deteriorated greatly during this time until the Old Taylor site was restored and became Castle&Key. The castle and several other buildings are now fully restored, with the castle serving as the main visitor area. Inside the castle it was bustling with tourists so I left after a short wander. There are at least three places to sample spirits here: inside the castle building, in a covered bar patio outside, and a tiny stand-up bar in the patio in front of the castle. That's where I went. I chose two 1/2-ounce pours from the 10 available (bourbons, ryes, gins, and a vodka) for a reasonable $4 each and sat at a nearby table. The Restoration Rye and the standard Small Batch Bourbon were both decent but I wasn't motivated to buy a bottle. There's no cell service here but they supposedly have wifi. However it wasn't working and nobody I asked seemed to know why or for how long. Unacceptable for such a large, touristy place. As I said, the main draw is the buildings and the history behind this place. The site was striking architecturally, the old buildings of various types, from the vine-covered stone castle, metal industrial buildings with pipes running overhead, and an old rusting water tower probably no longer used, with any new buildings thoughtfully placed so as not to detract from the historical ones. And the grounds themselves were very pretty, flowers lining the walkways, some formal gardens, a rushing river overflowing a dam forming one boundary opposite the road side. Walk up the road a bit and you'll discover even more ruins. Not part of Castle&Key anymore but part of the original Old Taylor site as well. I love old ruins and found these striking. And just past these ruins is another distillery, Glenn's Creek. Check it out too but beware: it's a very different experience and may not appeal to everyone.

Our tour guide was excellent: knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly proud of the history behind the distillery. The views are incredible too, especially overlooking the river and the old railroad bridge. Watching people bungee jump from the bridge added a pretty unforgettable moment to the day. We did the regular tour and then paid extra for the Russell's Reserve tasting, and that was well worth it. The tasting really took the experience up a level and gave us a much better appreciation for the Russell's lineup and the craftsmanship behind it. One of the employees jokingly gave my spouse and another guest on our tour a hard time about wearing hats from other distilleries. It was a small interaction, but it really set the tone for how welcoming and fun the staff was. We did the production tour with our guide, Josh, who was by far my favorite tour guide of our entire trip. He made the tour fun, interactive, and engaging from beginning to end. He had such a great personality and was incredibly relatable. Honestly, if I could have brought Josh along for the rest of our trip, I would have had him narrate all of our other tours! Once we entered the tasting room, we were blown away by how beautiful it was. We were given four bourbon and rye samples, and they were all fantastic. Needless to say, Wild Turkey Distillery quickly stayed to the top of our list and became one of our favorite stops of the trip. I would absolutely recommend taking a tour here.
