Highly recommending the Equity Urgent Care Clinic on S. Shepherd. Due to a fender-bender collision on my way to work Thursday morning, I had a whiplash headache. I visited the clinic to be examined for possible concussion. I arrived at the clinic at about 10:30 AM. After paperwork (identification, insurance, symptoms etc.) I saw Dr. Hopkins within 15 minutes. She examined, diagnosed and discharged me all within 20 minutes. She was thorough, efficient and caring. I was back at my office by 11:15 AM. I don't think I have ever had such efficient care from any medical facility in my life. We had a staff member who suffered a deep cut on his hand ... took him to this urgent care and the doctor took care of it. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND COME HERE!!!! I've been to some of the "Emergency Rooms" in the area and true, they all have fantastic service and a whole team in the back, but for me, urgent care was all I ever needed any of the times. And the difference was my copay at the emergency rooms was $500 versus $80 at this urgent care. If you can wait and don't need to be seen at 3 am, come here. Maria in the front was super nice and informative and already called me for a next day follow up to ask how I was feeling and see if I got my meds. Dr. Hopkins was super efficient in getting tests I needed done quick, results quick, in and out quick. No wait as everyone else said, but I did get here at 8 am when they opened so I was the first person in. Side note - 2-3 years from now people will come to this yelp page and say "what happened to the wait times? Everyone used to say the wait was nonexistent. But still the emergency rooms around the corner have no wait times ever stated." That's because everyone is going to try and avoid that $500 copay. And remember, when a place has a $500 copay, they don't have to see as many patients (I'm actually a healthcare provider myself with 4 offices so I understand this concept better than 99.99% of the general public). So when wanting to avoid the copay, people are going to look around, as I did, and see that most urgent cares have 2.5 - 3.5 stars and keep coming here, over and over and over again. So don't be surprised if wait times may be longer. But what you can expect is Maria and Dr. Hopkins taking care of you like family regardless. read more

Disappointment from the beginning. I called this clinic in advance to see if they accept united healthcare insurance and the guy on the line told me"of course!! Thats one of our major health care providers. Come thru.". We went there n they said we dont accept your insurance!! You have to pay out of pocket. Physically, this is the nicest urgent care I've ever seen. It doesn't have the stereotypical doctor's office look and is decorated very nicely. I was able to get an appt within an hour on a Saturday and was surprised that it wasn't busy. All of the staff were really nice and welcoming and the X-ray tech was extremely sensitive to my pain when placing me for images. They also did a follow up call the next morning to see how I was feeling. read more

THE BEST Urgent Care facility in the country!! The quality of care is far superior to any doctor/hospital in the Hou Medical Center, top NY hospitals, etc. Dr. Hopkins is hands down, the best doctor I've ever met after spending months with each of my children at the "TOP" hospitals. She and Mary provide unparalleled care and service. They are extremely efficient, brilliant, professional, and kind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Of the 20+ top doctors I've seen while caring for family members, we have never experienced a doctor & team/Mary who follow up immediately with CAT scan/MRI/blood test results.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After taking my son to Equity, I went myself with excruciating pain in my stomach/side. Mary handled my paperwork in minutes then Dr. Hopkins immediately took ex-rays and blood work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She had results moments later, called me first thing the next morning after speaking with the radiologist and had already scheduled a CAT scan for the next day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The flu I had spread to my GI system and resulted in a severe infection which was spreading from bladder to kidneys. Coincidentally, my mother had just been to 2 funerals for women who had this type of rapidly spreading infection in the stomach area. Dr. Hopkins urged me NOT to put off the CAT scan and to take the antibiotics she prescribed immediately. As a result, I did not have to go to the hospital for surgery and she was able to stop the infection from spreading. After spending 10 days in excruciating pain, barely able to walk, I am now completely healed and have never felt better! My family and I are eternally grateful for Dr. Hopkins and Mary!!!!!!! They will remain in our thoughts and prayers always. read more

HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND! SCAM! Equity Urgent Care????? More like a liability clinic. I was a cash pay patient, and checked in the very beginning of December 2021. Before entering a room, I had to pay $90 up front. Generally, urgent cares would have NP evaluate and treat you. Surprisingly, an MD who is also the owner of this clinic treated me. It was Dr. Hopkin. I explained my issues, and although she was polite and nice. I could sense she was definitely those uptight and micro managing physicians. She informed me that I need to get some in house lab work done and also have labs sent out to QUEST. In order for her to do anything, I had to pay an extra $50 for in house labs. She mentioned that she has no idea what QUEST charges for my send out labs, and it was out of her hands. She also said that I have to contact QUEST about my bill. That should've have been an automatic red flag for me right there. 1. Medical Screen Exams (MSE) are free of charge to start with. 2. Also, you have a third party contract Lab you use which is QUEST. But you have no idea what the charge rates are? 3. Almost ALL urgent cares already have set rates for self pay patients. She suggested and also kept insisting that I manually would do a procedure on myself. It really threw me off guard, and I was absolutely adamant that Dr. Hopkin should do it. So she finally did the procedure on me. As a physician, that's her job. Why am I paying the clinic to manually do a procedure on myself, when I am the patient? Plus I didn't go to school nor done residency to become a doctor. Not only that, this procedure was also a send-out, and would be collected from QUEST. If I was dumb, and agreed to manually do this procedure on myself, what if I didn't do it correctly? The test results may possibly come back inaccurate, and also I may get mis diagnosed. That was extremely a huge liability on her part and her clinic. NEVER in my life had I ever experienced that sort of awkward situation. Nurse Practitioners NP do way more work than she does considering she is an MD. How disappointing. She was extremely cheap with her medical supplies, and a MA (Medical Assistant) named Danery used a straight needle on me instead a butterfly needle. He was extremely helpful and caring. I did signed a waiver that I am responsible for any other bills before I checked in when I completed their paperwork. Little did I know that now I owe QUEST $1,500. If I were to known ahead of time what my additional bill would be, I wouldn't signed that consent waiver nor step foot into that clinic. Dr. Hopkin, as a business owner, you knew better, and also knew the cost of lab work from third parties. Instead you denied it, and said you had no idea. Almost every urgent care has a contract with a third party for lab send outs. That's why they already have set self pays for NON INSURED patients. That amount is almost as if you're going to a hospital. This is not ok and unacceptable. Especially people like me who do not have insurance and do not have that kind of money to pay $1,500 to pay off the balance. The receptionist was also rude when I called. She argued with me and before she got off the phone with me she would say "have a blessed day". I called back and she would hang up and then stopped answering my phone calls. So I left a voicemail. The only person who was extremely helpful I believe her name is Epifama.She did a follow up and called me. She asked how was my visit. I told her exactly what happened, and she was extremely apologetic and refunded my $90 and $50. I myself worked in the medical fields for almost 8 years. This is by far the worst and most weirdest experience I had from an urgent care and any other doctor visits. I do not think Dr. Hopkins shouldnt be a physician, and doesn't know how to run a business. I would never come back and recommend others to check out other urgent care before going here. read more

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I encourage people to read Equity Urgent Care's website. Everything is true as relates to our experience. My wife and I found a great doctor here, Dr. Victoria Hopkins. Her background includes Rice, Brown and Harvard, and extensive experience as a surgeon, family primary care doctor and emergency room doctor. This is a great place for fast, competent, friendly medical service. This is at present the only office location (in the whole country) for Equity Urgent Care. Unlike most other "urgent care" offices, this one is full-time staffed by a medical doctor. You will see a doctor and not a nurse or physician assistant. They have very clean facilities for, among other things, infection testing swabs and X-rays (other services are listed on their website). Dr. Hopkins is very professional and nice. My wife and I were referred here, with high compliments, by the receptionist at Baylor Family Care when we arrived at Baylor too late in the day for their lab to be open. Dr. Hopkins really cares, and saw us late on a Thursday, and also had us come back the next day for a re-check in case my wife's condition worsened, and on the second day the doctor also checked my condition, She wanted us to see her any time over the weekend as might be needed. We also liked the receptionists that processed our insurance and (very short) paperwork. Dr. Hopkins has done many kinds of testing and procedures at this location, including for example what I think she said was a shoulder reconstruction. My wife and I are so glad to have found this place, which has been here for a year or so. We had no line or wait in either of our visits. We are so glad to discover that there is a place near us for competent, friendly, reassuring, and professional service. We had great confidence in this doctor. We never felt hurried or rushed or that we weren't able to discuss all our concerns and questions. I rank Dr. Hopkins among my top group of favorite doctors. read more

I love Dr. Hopkins. She is very attentive, has great bed side manners and is extremely competent in her field. We have used Equity Urgent Care on multiple occasions and have been very happy with each visit. The office is clean, well equipped (with X-ray machines and various tests and tools) and wait times are very reasonable. On most visits, we were seen to within 5 minutes and felt well take care of with a thorough examination and diagnosis/prescription. Dr. Hopkins even calls in the prescription for you to the Target next door so by the time you are done, you can walk over and pick up your prescription. They will even call around other clinics to get you in for specific specialized procedures if needed so great follow through to ensure your issues are resolved. Best part is that its privately owned so you are not dealing with some big corporate Medical facility and all its high costs and bureaucracy. If there is a problem, they fix it right away. Do not use this urgent care!!! When In for an issue, I had a fever and obviously needed some kind of treatment however they just gave me Tylenol and sent me on my way. Woke up the next morning and now my symptoms are so bad and worsening that I'm being admitted into the ER. They also had me waiting 30 min for my discharge papers, when I went out too see if I could leave and that I didn't care for the discharge papers I just wanted too go home the nurse told me "oh the discharge papers have just been sitting on the doctors desk" mind you im feeling sick and have a fever and they were so nonchalant about my visit. When I told this story too my ER doctor he highly recommended I don't go back there I will never trust them again. read more

Do NOT come to this location. I was informed by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy to call ahead and get in contact with Urgent Care clinics, ask if a physician would be willing to help with my situation before even going in. The other clinics in the area did the right thing, they informed me they could not help. Equity Urgent care however, did the direct opposite of right. I was told to come in and would be self pay ($100), since I had no insurance. I paid the fee and was seen by the doctor for 30 seconds, she informed me she could not help. She straight up scammed me for $100. She acted shocked when I asked her for a refund, as if she did anything but lie to her patient. She tried to belittle me when it came to information on out-of-state prescription. Do not trust this doctor, she's clearly in the role for the wrong reason. read more

I called ahead because I needed a PCR COVID test (lab test) for work; however, I was not interested in paying a huge urgent care visit fee. I was charged $10 for a rapid flu and COVID test (which was fine), and told I would not be charged for a visit since the reason I was there was for a COVID test. Later on I get a $257 bill (and they tried to charge over $600). Furthermore, they have so far refused to send me my test results stating I can come pick it up. This place is over an hour drive from my house. To charge this amount of money and then not even being willing to send a copy by mail or email (not to mention this violates HIPPA if they continue to refuse - they have up to 60 days). I'm willing to pay the Texas state mandated maximum fee of $25 for my records. I will be following up. read more

Beware they will scam you and then send you to collections! On Aug 11 I called to confirm insurance coverage for a COVID-19 test. The receptionist confirmed coverage; I arrived and the receptionist said he actually didn't quite confirm, but - after 20 minutes of calling while I was waiting - he said he did finally confirm coverage. I went into the room, the nurse (after taking vitals) said that the doctor would see me - I said "wait, does that mean you are going to charge me an office visit?" to which she responded "yes". So I clearly stated "I would rather go to CVS or Walgreen's rather than pay an uncovered exam fee or office visit, so please either (i) don't charge me for a full visit for 30 seconds of the doctor's time or (ii) just let me just leave now and I will go to CVS/Walgreen's". She left to get the doctor. I repeated myself to the doctor. The doctor said "OK, I understand" then took my swab, disappeared and returned a few minutes later saying "Good news, it's negative - goodbye." Much to my surprise, I received an invoice from them about 2-3 weeks later; I called to confirm why I was charged, given the understanding I had with the doctor (who, I believe, was also the owner); she said she would speak to the owner and "take care of it". I received a second notice, I called, they said they would look into it and get back to me, I received a third notice, called back, same thing. Finally, around Thanksgiving, they sent a letter threatening to send me to collections. I called, Epifania told me she spoke to the owner, who confirmed that she wouldn't refund me and - when I attempted to pay for the service, Epifania said "my supervisor told me I can't talk to you" then hung up on me. When I called back, she hung up and would not let me speak to her supervisor. Then they just let my calls go to voicemail. Mind you, the only way to pay for their invoices is to call them. So I suppose now - since I have no way to pay them for their fraudulent service - they will send me to collections and this will hurt my otherwise pristine credit. Thanks, Equity! ***UPDATE - In an effort to avoid you sending my account to collections, I went out of my way to physically go to your clinic (as you wouldn't take my payment by phone, and don't have any e-commerce methods) to calmly and politely attempt to make payment; the manager in the back did in fact call security, who was truly confused as to why you wouldn't take my payment but indicated that he couldn't take sides and suggested that - given your intransigence - the only options he saw were to wait until you sent me to collections or hire a lawyer. We then both walked calmly out of the facility, as it was obvious that you were going to carry through with your threats to both send me to collections and accuse me of, I suppose, "trespassing" in an effort to effectively pay your blackmail payment. Now I will have to either hire a lawyer or spend hours and months removing this from all major credit agencies -- truly malicious behavior, Equity. You should be ashamed of yourselves. *** read more
