After losing faith in Craig's List over the years, I had no idea what to do with my appliances and furnishings. I also wanted my items to "give back" to humanity. So, I called Bay Area Recycle. They were extremely helpful, informative and professional. They were unable to take my furnishings, but they referred me to someone who could help (Salvation Army and Bay Area Crisis Nursery). They WERE able to take my refrigerator for $35 cash, in a timely manner-- 2 days later! They removed the appliance from the storage unit, so I did not have to do any heavy lifting. Overall, an excellent experience. Why only 4 stars, and not 5? Well, they only accepted cash; and they only take electronics and appliances. However, I want to reiterate-- these folks are wonderful! I would use them again.

They quoted me: $40 for curbside pick-up or $65 to come up one-flight of stairs and remove it from my apartment. 2 guys showed up on time and the price I signed for was the price I was quoted. Plus, they recycle as much of the mattress as they can whereas the other companies just take it to the Dump.

He also asked if the dimensions I specified were inner or outer dimensions, which I did not specify initially. And, lastly, Laurie was fantastic! Only suggestion is if you happen to have a U-Haul with a bunch of cans and bottles this wouldn't be a good idea to bring your redeem here (you might tick off others who want to redeem their cans and bottles).

The last 4 times I've visited, it's been self service, then the woman in the office helps you. She also questioned if I crushed them with a machine. What kind of machine? I mean, I crush them, like a normal person, with my feet, so I can fit 4 times as many in a bag, but whatever. Unfortunately for me, it's become a hassle, and awkward trip, so I will be finding somewhere else to recycle.
