100% better run than the NYC clubs, specifically, Brookfield place which was really poorly run. There was one mgr there who was seriously psychotic. She literally stalked me. The staff is cordial here in Darien without being in your face. Same as the trainers. Sales team is amazing - highly recommend! Patrons are civilized. What's not to love? p.s. after reading YELP reviews I was cautious....the drama described seems to not be accurate (so far lol) . read more

And that's it. I've put up with having to jump through extra hurdles when we signed up as a same sex couples. I've watched group fitness instructors mock members. I've never talked to the manager since he NEVER walks the club and avoids members interaction at all costs. But when I show up to find out the club is closed the rest of today and tomorrow for a special event without any kind of in club, online, or proactive text / email communication, I'm just done with these people who could care less about their members' wellness. Homophobic, cruel, and incompetent. read more

Equinox Darien is NOT safe--and management will NOT protect you. After being verbally assaulted, subjected to misogynistic slurs, and physically confronted by a male member on the gym floor, I reported the incident immediately. Multiple witnesses came forward. I was assured it would be handled. It wasn't. The individual was allowed back into the club and continued spreading false, degrading, and misogynistic comments about me to other members and staff. Despite months of detailed reports to senior leadership and HR, Equinox took no meaningful action. Instead, I was met with delays, deflection, and ultimately told they "cannot engage" unless other members contact them directly. Translation: the victim does the work, the harasser faces no consequences. Even more disturbing, staff appeared to tolerate--or participate in--gossip, reinforcing a hostile and misogynistic environment. For a company that markets itself as inclusive and empowering, Equinox chose corporate protection over member safety. If you are a woman and expect to be taken seriously when reporting harassment, this is not the place. read more

I wanted to check out Equinox Darien after having an off putting experience at another equinox. I loved the facility but the members were off putting. I felt very sexualized and could feels older male eyes on me throughout my entire workout. I'm in the area a few times a week, and wanted to find a new gym for when i'm in the area. I talked to an associates named Mike, who showed me around the gym. I told him I would have to think about the membership, as I'm only here a few days out of the week, and $220 a month is definitely an investment. After I left, he sent me the following texts which had quite an unprofessional and rude demeanor if you ask me. What he was insinuating , I truly don't know. The gym was also full of people who clearly had a membership as a declaration of status rather than means to actually take care of their minds and bodies. I know people may be at different stages in their journey, but even the personal trainers were guiding members through workouts with random workouts that aren't styled for anything, movement with no gain, that could easily subject the member to injury. This was a disappointing experience seeing that I was heavily considering joining the equinox cult and proud to so, but I've realized all of the locations are the same. Members are pervy, and staff is beyond rude. I'll take my $60 powerlifting gym with no pervs, and trainers who know what they're doing. read more

Used to be a member. The problem is that you have too many personal trainers who by the way act like celebrities. Anyhow they take over machines for a long periods of time with their own clients and it's very disrespectful and not fair for members who actually pay to be there. read more

The reason for the complaint is that Equinox has been charging my credit card every month since October 2021. Equinox charged my credit card for the past 23 months when they were notified that I was on medical orders not to work out because of the degeneration of the joints L5 S1 and chronic pain. I have all the paperwork from the doctors and physical therapy I did for several months. In April of 2021, I had an accident at a hotel, and a lawsuit was opened because the fall was bad. Since I realized that Equinox charged my card for the past 23 months, I reached out to the manager, Christian Romano, in Darien - CT, where I still have the membership because Equinox never canceled, even after another letter from my doctor that was emailed directly to Mr. Romano on May, 31st of 2023. And to this day, Equinox keeps charging. He advised me that he would work on the issue and apply the credit, as I asked him to credit the account when my doctor gave me the clearance to resume the workout. Nothing happened! I called and emailed Romano not once but several times. Even after the letter in May, 2023 Equinox keeps charging my card. This situation is awful because I was a loyal member for many years. I guess they care about the money versus their members. read more

This location is a stand out and is an role model for good customer service, in addition to being immaculately clean and having top of the line equipment. The GM Joey and his staff go above and beyond to make sure everyone feels welcome and enjoys working out there. I recently had an issue with signing up at another club. One of the membership advisors (Mike) fixed the situation quickly and in a professional manner. I work in Manhattan and will use this club on the weekends. Keep up the great work, Eqx Darien! :) read more

I'm a long time member of this gym. There was a recent management change and I'm very unhappy with the new manager, Christian. Customer service has gotten terrible since he took over. I will be looking for a new gym to join. read more

This gym may seem nice but the people who own it are demented. I made the grave mistake of stopping in this location once several years ago to check it out. I decided not to join. To this day, I get emails almost every other day from them asking me to come back and join. There's no unsubscribe link: these seem to be sent out manually. I've responded and asked to be removed from their mailing list but they won't take me off. I used to get regular calls too but those finally stopped about a year or so ago. To the owners: I don't want to join your lousy gym. Take me off your mailing list and seriously reconsider your marketing plan -- it's harassment. read more

Super clean and nice selection of free weights and cardio equipment. Smaller than Greenwich and Southport but sufficient late at night and off hours. Perhaps the only location with loads of trainer attitude. Why does management allow trainers to hook up with clients in the bathroom downstairs or the locker room? More gossip and hook ups with housewives than working out. Crowded weekend mornings. read more

Equinox needs to advertise their CT location more - I've lived in the area my whole life and had NO IDEA it was there! I used to belong to NYSC and was getting fed up that they closed the most convenient location to me and started all these cool small group training classes but then charged you ridiculous amounts extra for them. (and the membership wasn't cheap to begin with - about $70/month) Locker rooms at some locations were also not always the cleanest and were sometimes overcrowded in the mornings when I work out. Equinox was just what I was looking for - although not cheap ($140/mo), they have tons and tons of classes at all times of day with amazing instructors and they are all included in your membership. I've tried 3 or 4 different cycling instructors and while I have my favorites, none of them were bad. Inside/Out class is really neat, a mix of ballet and pilates. The trainers are top notch and really know their stuff. I got my free "Equifit" assessment when I joined and they really go through everything with you - VO2 max test, push-up test, flexibility test, blood pressure, weight, body fat %, etc...we came up with a plan for me to work on and even though I didn't buy any personal training sessions yet, the trainer checks in with me often and asks if I need anything. I also had a free pilates session on the reformer machines when I joined. These things kind of look like medieval torture devices but were very effective. Again, I didn't buy any sessions, but the woman who instructed me was super helpful and friendly. One of my favorite things...they have kettlebells out on the exercise floor! NYSC kept them locked up so you could only use them in their small group training class. I've had the chance to go at different times of day and each time the locker room is spotless. There is plenty of space and the design is very aesthetically pleasing. Bonus...Kiehls products are being introduced in all the locker rooms this fall/winter! They have great towels for the showers that actually fit around you, unlike the paper towel sized ones NYSC had. As a result of this, along with the great products, the size of my gym bag I constantly lug around is greatly reduced. I no longer bring my own shampoo/conditioner/body wash/towels. As you can see, I'm a happy camper. I go so often I definitely get my money's worth! Tip: Sign up during their Company anniversary month (September) and you don't have to pay the ridic $300-400 joining fee - mine was $20.09...much more reasonable! read more

Great classes, nicest gym in Fairfield County and the cleanest. Highest priced too. The sales girl who signed me up was excellent to deal with! Too many annoying FC housewives on their freaking phones while on the elliptical. I mean seriously - what is soo important in your life that you have to chat away, annoying everybody while working out? If I can somehow put the obnoxiously self-centered members at this place out of my mind, it is a very good workout experience. read more

So I had a lot of trouble convincing myself to spend this kind of exorbitant amount of money on a gym. But I broke it down like this: Would I rather join an average gym and never go (because the facilties are yucky and there's no real motivation) or Would I rather join a good gym and go frequently (facilities are great, machines are clean, classes are good) And after trying the gym out for a couple of days I finally convinced myself it's worth trying for a year. For me, Equinox makes sense because: - It's on my way to work: very easy and convenient to get to as it's right near the freeway - Not usually crowded, even during peak hours (8am, 5-7pm weekdays) - Great classes (I got my butt kicked by Yoga) - Great steam room I feel like I get my money's worth because I use the gym sometimes not just for working out, but when my wifi at home is out (STUPID, STUPID ATT, that's another review), I actually am motivated to come to the gym and run so I can catch up on my work email or TV shows. Anyway, the high price tag isn't for everyone. I've found that I've had to cut back in other areas of my budget for gym expenses (so far, cable was the first to go) but in the end, I feel a lot better after exercising and it gives me an excuse to pig out massively on the weekends. I knocked off a star because the treadmills can really use its own personal TV's for the prices you pay for this gym. That, and there seems to be a couple of oddballs that insist on using the treadmill RIGHT next to me even though there are a ROW of empty ones. Kinda creeps me out, just sayin. Oh, and the Pom Pure smoothies at the juice bar are AWESOME. Crazy expensive at $6.50. But awesome. read more

Equinox Darien is so conscientious about safety! Everyone is dutifully wearing masks + staff continuously cleaning. Right now, it's not as crowded which makes for a peaceful workout. My trainer Cody is the BEST, being knowledgeable + helpful with instructions. Everyone is nice+ enthusiastic. Five stars! read more

This gym is ridiculous charging for a month what many gyms cost for a year and yet has hours similar to a bank. If you have a job that doesn't let you out at 5pm precisely and arent a "morning person" who wants to get sweaty and exert themselves first thing in the morning go somewhere else. I used to love this gym when it had normal gym hours but two price hikes combined with reduces hours have made it a joke. read more

I recently joined and have to say I'm loving the group classes! They have awesome spin instructors who really motivate and take the time to make sure you're getting your best work out in! I also like the barre classes and ropes and rowers. They have a huge locker room with plenty of space to get ready just be sure to bring your own lock. A nice plus - there are cold eucalyptus towels which are amazing after a hard work out. Downsides: -No juice press at this location -They don't have a big variety in classes like the other clubs have -No pool -Not many afternoon/evening classes read more

Like the other reviewer I didn't even know they had a location in CT but boy am I glad I found it. I joined mainly for the group classes. To be honest, to date, I never even used any of the machines although there is quite an assortment. Yes they are somewhat pricey but I take a class everyday Mon-Fri which works out to about $7/day, quite reasonable. I could never be this motivated working out on my own. My favorite classes are anything with Liz, PJ and the boxing class taught by Lukas. I live in a high end condo complex with an excellent "free" gym and even with that I would not give up my membership to Equinox. I took away one star because it could be a bit more affordable and it can be a bit intimidating when you first start (think women with 5% body fat abound). Makes for super motivation though. read more

The gym itself is good and the staff are generally nice and uplifting. However, when I tried to freeze or cancel my membership, I experienced a lot of difficulties. They told me my account was frozen or cancelled but I still got billed. Also, there's no way to remove your card from their website. There's a long period of time that during their billing period that you won't even be able to edit your card information. These made me very frustrating. What's more is when you contact their managers, they don't respond to you. read more

It's nearly $300 a month and they can't keep people who aren't members out of the gym. The problem has escalated to the point where their employees are letting sales people into the equinox to peddle luxury goods and services inside and outside of the gym. I'm not sure someone is trying to make money on the side but I've contacted the equinox headquarters about the issue and they want the gym members to get the names of the people involved which is ridiculous. This has happened at the Bedford, Greenwich, Darien and DUMBO equinox locations. read more

I showed up at the Darien EQUINOX almost a year ago, missing my regular New York equinox gym. I really grew to love this gym. It is super clean and The employees there are so nice and willing to help you in anyway they can.. Whether it be the person at the checkout desk, someone working in the spa, the trainers, the barre teachers, Pilates instructors, the maintenance people. A year later, I did not want to transfer to any other gym. The barre classes were off the charts!! Now back in New York I am revisiting some of the EQUINOX locations I previous attended. While they are familiar, they do not bring the same joy the Darien EQUINOX brought. Lol. I have RAVED about the barre classes in Darien to all of the New York equinox mangers . So far, The Darien EQUINOX classes are tops. I felt so comfortable working out there. The workout rooms and kids clubs were very bright and spacious without columns. You just can't compare. read more

This is one of the low end Equinox gyms in comparison to the New York or Greenwich venues. At least 80 percent of the heart rate monitors on the treadmills don't work and every time I've reported it, I get a pasted on smile with an assurance they will be fixed... 6 months and counting! There aren't many classes for men who don't like the small room for spinning or believe yoga is a great way to sustain an injury. read more

Please be careful with what you sign up for. When I signed up They told me that it was a month to month contract and I could freeze at anytime for upto 3 months period. First I could never access the club my app could not register. Each time I went to the club someone will try to reset it and will ask me to wait for 3-5 days. I left many messages for manager who either was not in that day or was in a meeting. Management was the worst part of my experience. So problems began when I came back from 2 months freeze and the charges continued to post. I tried to reach the manager and after 10-15 days of leaving messages I was able to reach Megan. She then told me that she will take the freeze period of at the end of 6 months and that my contract is 12 months. Cancellation was another borrow story and charges continue to post on my account till today while the last day I was in gym was May 23. Oh and she said she cannot issue any refund. On the whole it was the worst gym experience I ever had. I had heard good things about equinox but at this point I will never join any equinox club anywhere. read more

Been a member for 13 years. Recent changes in management have resulted in problems with maintenance of equipment, trying to save money by utilizing smaller bottles of soap and shampoo which require more effort to use, and using garbage bags to take home your wet clothes. Miss the days when there was a trainer that walked the floor to provide assistance but now all the trainers are either chatting with each other or waiting for their next client. Majority of staff is helpful and pleasant. Facilities are well equipped. Do not under any circumstance criticize the managers. They are a bit fragile and cannot take the criticism or suggestions on what might make a better experience. read more

Overall I'm happy that I joined! It's convenient for me much more so than the Southport location. I like that it's tucked away as opposed to being right near the highway like Southport. Indoors this location could use some updates. Certain bikes in the cycling room are broken, bathroom showers are a little dated and could use a refresh. Members pay a premium expecting luxury elements so this should on close to the top of the do list. The group classes are my favorite part and offer the variety I was looking for. Hopefully they'll be able to make some upgrades soon!! read more

My girlfriend just recently got a job here and I got to come in as her guest (pretty sweet deal!) The gym is what you would expect from Darien, very pristine with top of the line equipment. Workers for the most part seemed very friendly. They have an amazing locker room, the eucalyptus towels are a big plus. They have a lot of things you wouldn't see at your regular run of the mill gym such as floor trainers, weighted vests, cattle bells, and several studios for group classes like yoga and spinning. Maybe after I become a nurse I'll come back. Right now the prices are too high for me. read more

One of the better Equinox locations!! always clean!! great staff!! plenty of parking. great climate control. Great steam room.

Sales staff are great. Front desk is courteous. Love the refrigerated towels and mix of classes. The facility is small, the childcare needs improvement (staff are neither courteous nor socially aware). General management should invest in training here as well as the store that sells clothing. The clothing store (average price of a t-shirt is $80) does not train its employees so expect lot of errors, lost orders, overhcharges and an inability to correct mistakes without weeks of calling and waiting to talk to someone higher in the organization. Training and customer service orientation could make this store massively more profitable. read more

Very good. Great equipment and always clean. Usually not over crowded.

Very new and super clean. We were visiting from out of town and Megan, the manager, took care of us very well.

I love Darien Equinox. It is a fabulous gym. The class instructors are great, the trainers are great----BUT if you have small children this gym is very challenging. The women in the kids club can be very rude and constantly beep you during your workouts. When you go in there in the AM with their your children they are not welcoming and they DO NOT help your child have an easy separation from their caregiver. IT IS AWFUL. It is a shame a gym so wonderful as equinox has terrible weekday AM childhood care. I wish that they would provide a more friendlier environment for the members children. The women in their are on some sort of a power trip where they feel the need to constantly share how the MEMBER should parents and how misbehaved the members child is-even if it is a baby. I have many friends who also share the same complaint it is terrible. It is so bad in their I am considering changing gyms even though I love the club. It is a shame. read more
