My husband and I came here for the weekend to celebrate our one year anniversary specifically for this experience alone and while the overall activity itself had so much potential, our visit was completely overshadowed by the rudeness of our main guide. From the very beginning, their attitude was dismissive and unwelcoming, which made it hard to fully enjoy what should have been a memorable and positive experience. Haley and the other trail guide(so sorry I don't remember her name but both were amazing). Haley was closer to us as we followed her in the beginning of the line. The trail took us threw the woods and some wetlands before getting onto the beach. It was a long ride about 2 hours round trip. The horses were great and it really was a lot of fun. The weather was a little chilly (took the 4:00 ride), so dress accordingly. We all highly recommend this trip and especially the guides we had. read more

Easy to ride & beautifully kept horses. The ride was a total of 2.5 hours long. Most the ride was along a trail through forested area ending with a 20 minute ride along the beach before turning back. Several parts involved wading through water and if you're on a shorter horse, plan to pick up your feet. We did go shortly after a big storm/flood so this may not be the norm depending on the season you choose to ride. Zero riding experience is okay! The horses were tacked and ready and our group was ready to go. They asked if we wanted to chance the weather and everybody was in so we started on the trail ride through the woods. Before we got to the beach the trail leaders said we'd have to turn around. We were all a little disappointed but were given the option to reschedule or get a refund. Really great ride! 2 hours through the woods, dunes and then on the beach. I own a horse and ride 5x a week but my sister, brother in law and husband do not get on horses regularly. The ride was great for everyone. We walked thru the trails to the beach and then on the sand we were allowed to spread out and canter if we wanted or stay at a walk, whichever you were more comfortable with. I had a fun little mare that really enjoyed cantering down the beach as did my sisters horse. The men stayed comfy at a walk and all were happy. What an AMAZING experience! It's now two days later and I still can't stop smiling when I think about it. This is truly an experience that is one of a kind from riding through the tropical forest to along the crashing waves on the beach. The horses are very well kept and suited perfectly for any level of rider. Our guide Marlee was absolutely amazing as well. She took the time to make sure we were comfortable on the horses and even got off to take pictures for us. Marlee was also extremely knowledgeable about the area and anything horse related which made for great conversation the whole ride. This is an experience you will never forget and well worth it. I've been riding for over 13 years, so I'm a bit hard to impress when it comes to horses. However, the people at EA did a great job accommodating both me and my game but inexperienced mom. Our ride was the two-hour beach one (it ended up being 3!) and it was fantastic. The trails go through some scrub and some unremarkable forest, but the moment you break out onto the beach is incredible! The group is then broken up according to what speed you want to go on the beach, so my horse Buzz and I had a wonderful gallop with two other riders. After that there's a time for photos in front of the ocean. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be back! At the time of my writing this, the cost is $95 per person and there's a weight limit of 200lbs. read more

Equine adventures was an amazing experience for me. The guides were very nice and talkative. We first went through the woods at a nice walk where the one of the guides got to know me. When we came to a water hole the guides told us what to do and were reassuring. On the beach you got to split up into groups based on speed. I had the chance to trot and canter, and the amazing part was that the choice was totally up to you. You did not have to do anything you did not want to do. This is an AMAZING experience on horseback. My daughter and I are experienced riders and have done several trail rides at different locations. We both agreed that this was the best one yet. Staff is so friendly and accommodating. We were slightly late on arrival (make sure you give yourself plenty of time -- you're not traveling on a super highway to get there), but made to feel at ease almost immediately. A two hour ride and you get to canter on the beach (if you want) for a decent part. Ricky, our guide, was amazing. So nice to talk to and could give you background on the lighthouse, the surroundings, everything. She was fantastic. We got to see deer and bunnies during our ride back to the barn. When we return to the Outerbanks next year, this is on our list. If I could afford it, I would go almost every day I was there! read more

OVER THE TOP horses and guides. This experience exceeded our expectations. We have a 14 year old who absolutely loves horses and a 12 year old who had fear driven tears before getting on. They paired him up with a horse named Cinco and within 10 min he was relaxed and by the time we hit the beach he was all smiles. Our daughter was able to canter her horse on the open beach. Had a wonderful time on this ride. It lasts closer to three hours if you include the half hour to get everyone geared up and on the horses. The ride spends about 30-45 minutes walking through a path in the woods to get to the beach. You do get to walk through some water, which was fun. Then at the beach you are given a chance to trot or you can keep walking if you don't feel comfortable trotting. We spent about 45 mins-hour on the beach and then 30-45 minutes back to the barn through the woods. You walk single file line through the woods, but get to spread out when trotting on the beach. We had 12 riders in our group with two guides. The two guides, Caroline and Kaylin, were super nice, patient and helpful. On the beach, the two guides actually got off their horses in order to take pictures of us on our horses with the water in the background. I thought that was a nice touch to remember the experience and they used our own cell phones to take the pictures. My legs were definitely sore after the ride, but it was well worth it. This was my families first venture on horseback and we had a fantastic experience. The horses were amazing and our guide, Stacey, did a great job. The ride took us through the woods then onto the beach. The woods really gave you a new perspective on the Outer Banks. Once on the beach we were able to gallop on the horses and then take our time enjoying the view. Stacey took our families photo on the beach then back to the barn through the woods. Just went yesterday and as usual it was positively perfect. The weather was sunny, warm, and breezy, bugs weren't bad at all. The beach was gorgeous and we even saw 2 bald eagles. The guide, Emily was very attentive and helpful with young or inexperienced riders. As a riding instructor myself, I was very impressed. Emily made sure every rider was kept safe and had fun. We learned of Equine Adventures as we entered Cape Hatteras and extended our stay so we could go for a ride. I had never ridden a horse before, so this was my chance. I had a good ride. I had registered as a complete beginner, so they have me a slow horse to play it safe. The ride went well and I learned the basics. It goes through a forest and then out to the beach and back through the forest. The guides were extremely helpful and answered all my questions. If I get back to Cape Hatteras I'll go again, and now I'll be ready for a faster horse. read more

The ride takes you through the woods, water holes, dunes and onto the beach where you can choose to walk, trot or canter your horse. You can get pictures on the beach and the staff will take photos of your group too. Put on LOTS of bug spray - the mosquitos in the woods are bad. Amazing and fun experience!! read more

What a fabulous ride today! Although I have two horses at home, I decided my vacation wouldn't be complete without a trail/beach ride! Equine Adventures did not disappoint! I did a drive by the day before to scope out the horses and I was pleased to see the horses were well cared for, in great condition and all happily munching away on their hay. I've seen some shady commercial trail riding operations over the years and this is NOT one of them. It was very obvious that these horses are well cared. The ride itself was fabulous. It's about 45 minutes to the beach, and then we spent about 45 minutes on the beach, and then another 45 minutes back to the barn. The trail ride to the beach was lovely, with a few water crossing. Very scenic! Once arriving at the beach, riders have the option to enjoy a nice walk, or if they prefer, move out into a trot. Then the option was given to canter. I was riding Levi and he was very willing to move out. It was clear that he LOVES his job. We enjoyed a nice canter down the beach and then turned around and walked back to the rest of the group. Then we did another nice canter. Then the whole group took pictures and enjoyed a beautiful walk back to the trail for the return home. The guides were awesome. The horses were fabulous. The scenery was beautiful! I would strongly recommend this ride to anyone visiting the Outer Banks! read more

My husband and I went riding with equine adventures on our honeymoon. It was an amazing experience and we had a blast. The guides were guiding a huge group and still managed to stay involved in conversation pretty equally with all of the guests. The scenery was gorgeous and we love the photographs that were provided by the photographer (we had to purchase them). I've ridden on many trail rides but this was easily one of my favorites. The only bummer for me is that I was given a pony to ride instead of a horse. I'm sure it was due to my height (5'4") but it was not exactly what I wanted. The group was so large that I didn't request a different horse because they were all tacked up already. For anyone making reservations I highly suggest you make a point to be specific if that is something that would bother you. That being said, once we were riding I still had a blast and I'm sure my pony didn't even realize he was smaller than any of the horses- he had a big personality that made some pretty hysterical memories. I recommend this for couples and families with kids. These girls know what they are doing and kept a pretty close eye on everyone. read more

We had a fantastic time! We had 24 people wanting to ride so we went at 3 different times, Sylvia was extremely accommodating when we had to move people around due to people changing their minds and last minute conflicts. The guides (Willow and Emily) were very calm, knowledgeable and reassuring for those of us who were nervous or new. We loved the varying terrain and all of the wildlife that the guides pointed out, especially the Terrapin laying eggs in the forest. It was fun to have the guides tell us about the horses personalities, especially for the younger kids in our group (ages 10-14). It was also nice to have the option to walk, trot or Cantor depending on what you were up for. Highly recommend this place and the beach ride, we will definitely be back. I have never ridden a horse but read all of the glowing reviews and hoped I was in good hands. While the guides were nice, they were not very forthcoming with info unless you specifically asked questions. I truly didn't feel comfortable riding the horse and constantly wondered why he was doing what he was doing (noises, tripping, etc.). There was very little talking during the 45 minute trip through the woods. I thought perhaps we'd learn some history about that area. One rider was thrown off her horse when the horse behind hers bit her horse in the butt. The male guide was much nicer than the female and much more helpful. I was surprised how much I hurt after we returned, though. I think two hours was a bit much for those who have never ridden before. I also wish we could have taken a break halfway through on the beach to give both us and the horses a break. read more
