My mother-in-law is elderly and getting around with her took more time than expected. Still, we arrived at the staging area and the staff was still very pleasant and accommodating. You can tell they were getting us to hurry because they know the area would be overrun with other tour groups. They really wanted us to have the best time and experience there. And they sat us in a very good spot for the Wednesday audience with the Pope. I would definitely recommend this company.

He is definitely highly recommended. He is an archaeologist as well so he had a lot of fascinating things to share with us. We actually ran into him on three separate occasions in Rome by chance and he was great to talk to each time. The Colosseum tour we took also included the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill (both even more fascinating than the Colosseum in my opinion). The Vatican tour was with Claudia and she was equally as knowledgeable and fun! She obviously knew the folks she needed to to get around in this massive complex without having to wait for anything. The "no-line" entry most tours get has lines here. She had the hookup to get us even past those lines. The tour starts through the Vatican Museum and it was very crowded at the time we were there. She fought to make room for us to get in front of the masses to get a close look at all the things she wanted us to see. It was great to see her genuinely care about our experience. Just about every other tour group we saw in this places had at least 30 people in them. Both tours we took with Real Rome Tours had less than 10. We all had an equal opportunity to experience these beautiful sights with great knowledgable folks who even stuck around to answer any questions we had. They also give great recommendations on restaurants and other places you need to see while in Rome. Gerard was also a pleasure dealing with while booking our tours. He is well organized and gave us a great alternative when we wanted to do the Colosseum Underground tour that wasn't available. It worked out perfectly for us. I couldn't recommend Real Rome Tours any more.

She was also very thorough and accommodating. We even watched her swoop up an injured bird in her hands to rescue it from getting trampled by tourists. Overall, an unforgettable day! I booked a Colosseum guided tour through LivTours for my family during a long planned trip to Rome,…read moremeant to celebrate my son's graduation from Lehigh University and my daughter's high school graduation. Instead of a memory to celebrate, we left with one none of us will forget for the wrong reasons. LivTours guides do not give guests individual paper tickets. The guide holds all admission on an electronic ticket and hands each guest a small sticker as the only proof of entry. On an extremely hot day, my sticker came loose. Our guide walked ahead with two other guests to the bookshop and, by her own account, only glanced back and saw our group heading toward the exit. She never confirmed we actually made it out and never checked that each of us still had proof of admission. When I reached the exit checkpoint, staff asked for my ticket. I had none, because LivTours never gave me one. I was told it was illegal to be in that area without a valid ticket, pulled aside, and questioned. The police were called. I stood there while my wife and children watched and had to step in to try to help me. My wife eventually pulled up our purchase receipt on her phone, and that is the only reason I was allowed to leave. LivTours admitted in writing that the guide saw our group heading toward the exit and left without confirming we made it out. She did not secure our exit. She did not check that everyone in the group actually cleared the checkpoint before she walked off with two other guests to the bookshop. Making sure a group actually exits a controlled site, not just watching them walk in that general direction, is a basic responsibility of a tour guide, especially one holding the only ticket that gives that group the right to be there in the first place. As an African American man in a foreign country, being publicly stopped, questioned, and detained by police in front of my family was humiliating in a way that is hard to put into words. This was supposed to be a trip celebrating my children's accomplishments. Instead they watched their father get pulled aside like a criminal because a tour guide walked away without making sure we had what we needed to leave. A LivTours representative called me shortly after and told me directly that a refund would be issued. Weeks later, after I put the complaint in writing, LivTours reversed course completely. They now claim the tour was "completed as planned" and that the incident was outside their control. Their own emails contradict that. They admit their guide saw us walking toward the exit and left without confirming we got out safely. They admit they do not provide physical tickets to guests. Those two facts together are exactly why this happened, and it happened because of how LivTours operates, not because of anything my family did. I would not recommend LivTours for any tour requiring facility exit past a checkpoint. Ask directly whether you will receive an individual physical ticket before you book, and get it in writing. Jany was extremely…read moreresponsive and helpful throughout the planning process and went out of the way to accommodate our requests, which made arranging our day so easy. That level of communication and flexibility gave us confidence before we even arrived. Our guide and driver, Maria, was fantastic. She was warm, friendly, professional, and highly knowledgeable about the Amalfi Coast. One of my favorite parts of the entire day wasn't even originally part of the plan. Maria recommended that we start with a swim in Minori, and we decided to go for it on a whim. I'm so glad we did. She took us to a local beach rather than somewhere that felt designed specifically for tourists. Swimming in the Mediterranean surrounded by local families, listening to children laughing and speaking Italian around us, was one of those wonderfully simple travel moments that stays with you. It was beautiful, authentic, and such a special way to experience the Amalfi Coast. From Minori, we continued to Ravello, taking in the incredible scenery along the way. Maria's knowledge of the area, her recommendations, and her willingness to adapt the day to us made the experience feel personal rather than like a standard tour. We saved Pompeii for last, where we met our private guide, Rose Marie, who was phenomenal. Her depth of knowledge was remarkable, but just as importantly, she knew how to bring the ancient city to life. She was engaging, personable, and explained the history in a way that made us see Pompeii as a real city filled with real people rather than simply a collection of ruins. What made this excursion so memorable was the combination of expertise, flexibility, and genuinely wonderful people. From Jany's responsiveness and help arranging everything, to Maria giving us the freedom to experience something spontaneous and local, to Rose Marie making Pompeii come alive, we felt completely taken care of throughout the entire experience. This was easily one of our favorite days in Italy. I would enthusiastically recommend RomeInLimo and this wonderful team to anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii.

They are punctual and communicate about your upcoming rides so you don't have to wonder if they are going to remember to pick you up. Drivers are friendly and helpful. I wish I could give more stars.

We spent about a week in Rome last month and booked three guided tours: one for Vatican City, one…read morefor the Forum and Colosseum, and this one with Top Bike Rental and Tours, built around the ancient Appian Way. Of the three, the bike tour was the longest and the least mandatory, for lack of a better word. It was also one of the best things we did on our entire vacation. I picked this tour because it was highly rated on various travel sites and my husband Matt B. is an avid cyclist. It was a six-hour, 17-mile tour of Appian Way, the Catacombs of Saint Calixtus, and the Park of the Aqueducts, 9AM to 3PM with a stop for a casual lunch. I booked it for our one Sunday in Rome, when Appian Way would be closed to car traffic. We went to Top Bike on Sunday morning, which looked like a comprehensive bike rental joint in addition to a tour company. It was a big place, and there were a few small groups gathering, all us tourists getting assigned bikes and guides. We had the great luck of landing in Nima's group, with three other couples. He gave us a brief, informative orientation and we were on our way. I didn't really know what to expect from this tour (my fault/laziness, not theirs) and had been a bit apprehensive about the amount of biking involved. I'd never ridden an e-bike before, and if I had, I would not have been worried. I wouldn't even say we got exercise on that 17-mile ride. The only challenging part was the uneven terrain of Appian Way. I could see that being an issue for small children or frail seniors, but otherwise anyone who can pedal and balance can go on this tour. And they absolutely should. The tour was incredible. Nima was a wonderful guide, so warm and knowledgeable and conscientious. It can't be easy leading a bunch of bumbling tourists on e-bikes, many of them retirees, on a route that takes them through city streets. But he was great, responsible and watchful while we rode. He was equally impressive as a tour guide, imparting a wealth of knowledge at every stop. We stopped frequently, seeing, among other jaw-dropping sights we pedaled right past, the Basilica Santi Giovanni e Paolo, the Mausoleo di Cecilia, and the Chiesa di San Nicola a Capo di Bove. Nima told us about the gates and walls leading into Rome, and the Baths of Caracalla, which we waved at as we crossed the street a quarter-mile away. The three main attractions were as advertised, and we started with the catacombs tour, an optional add-on that I would definitely recommend. (You can book a four-hour version of the same tour that skips the catacombs, but hey, when in Rome.) Nima and Top Bike weren't involved in this leg, other than buying the tickets and getting us there, but it was fantastic, very worth our while. The catacombs were on Appian Way, which was apparently the place to be buried if you had money and status in ancient Rome. The heart of our tour took us along this road, over 2,000 years old and still in remarkable condition. We biked over stones marked with grooves from chariot wheels. We stopped for a casual lunch that was much better and less haphazard than I'd expected, at a pay-by-weight pizzeria called Pizza Gege. Then we went to the Park of the Aqueducts. I didn't know anything about Roman aqueducts, and when I booked this tour, I was only mildly curious why we'd be visiting a park devoted to them. Turns out aqueducts are a quintessential part of ancient Roman city planning and architecture. They're astonishing and beautiful, and I'll remember biking among them for the rest of my life. I know there's a lot to see in Rome, and a six-hour tour outside the city center might seem like a big commitment. But the Top Bike Rentals Appian Way tour is an A+++ excursion. I'd recommend it to anyone, visiting for any amount of time.
