The ladies in the office were more than helpful when I stopped by to get details on enrollment. Once my son was accepted to Paragon and I had the opportunity to meet his teacher, I was overjoyed to learn that she had obtained her Masters in Elementary Education and was starting her 9th year at Paragon. Great attitudes and a desire to help kids learn. I met a gentleman here while waiting for our kids to finish and he told me that he took his son from age 8 to 16 to Aloha in New York and when he moved here for work he moved to cave creek. He takes his daughter to this location every Sunday to better her education. That speaks volumes to me so I knew I was making a great decision. I have 50/50 custody so making weekly plans for my daughters education and extracurricular activities is always difficult and Sandy (Owner) worked hard to accommodate my crazy schedule. I always give my daughter the choice in activities and she willingly chooses to come here and learn, especially on a Sunday so I know I made the right choice in choosing Aloha.

But really most of the teachers are amazing and really good (Ms. Min, Ms. Gomez, etc) Their extracurricular programs are pretty good, especially band who has won multiple superiors and has a great director, same goes for choir. Our child has attended Rover since kinder (now in 2nd). One of the things that I loved about Rover was the balanced curriculum. They place a lot of focus on academics, but also offer music, computer, gardening club, etc. So far, all of the teachers have been wonderful and really willing to work with us to get the best education for our child. I also love that the PTA has an active group, and they really do a lot to help the school.

What attracted us two key features: (1) Horizon's student-to-teach ratio, and (2) the fact that students are assessed and taught at their level. An advanced Kindergartener can be in first or second grade math or reading, etc. Similarly, students needing more help are engaged and taught at the right level of challenge. Kindergarten classrooms are 25-30 students with a teacher and adult assistant teacher yielding teacher-to-student ratios of 13-15. In grades 1-6, students are in mixed-aged classrooms (again, taking into account the challenge needed for each student), with a class size of 55-60 led by 3 adults-two teachers and an adult assistant teacher, yielding a ratio of 18-20. These numbers are great. Beyond the classroom, we appreciate the lunch options. Food is catered from places like Pei Wei, Chick-fil-A, Panda Express, Boston Market and Streets of NY Pizza, making it much better than cafeteria-level food. While the price can be more than a cafeteria, the providers donate a share of proceeds back to the school, which is a win-win. We have also found that involvement opportunities are larger and more diverse than other schools - numerous sports, clubs, and activities are available to K-6 students. Our kids have been involved in after school clubs including Melody Makers, Code Bots, Rising Stars, Save the Earth, Showbiz, Lego Club, Art Club, and our fifth grader was selected to one of the middle school sports teams that allows 5th graders to tryout.

I looked into Mathnasium when the my 8th grade son started having trouble in his math class and his…read moreteacher suggested extra tutoring. I knew I didn't want to do Kumon because he already had so much regular homework that more at-home work would be impossible. I was impressed from the very start. We went in for a free assessment and free first two sessions (we had a Groupon). Suchita (the owner) was SO nice! She did a thorough assessment, even breaking it into two assessment sessions. She was able to provide a detailed report showing which concepts he understood and which concepts he did not quite have. Suchita created a personalized plan that targeted those weak areas. What I truly appreciated was that she never gave me a hard sell (unlike a lot of tutoring places). She suggested different options, but didn't press a long-term commitment or more expensive options. One of the best things about Mathnasium is that you don't have pre-scheduled times (you don't have to call to cancel or reschedule or race to get there by a certain time)! Since I work and my kids have after school activities, that flexibility was a HUGE bonus! The tutors were all excellent and friendly. My son didn't have a bad experience with any of them and he really liked talking with them because they were "nice and patient." The kids are given stamps for completing worksheets, which they can trade in for prizes, including gift cards. This was highly motivating for my son. After one month, my son's grades on his math tests had improved an entire grade and he definitely felt more confident in his math abilities. I would highly recommend Mathnasium of Gilbert!
