It's funny living in a suburb called Epping and here I am writing a review of a pub called the Epping Hotel, and it isn't the one that I have been to more often than not (though I don't go there all that often these days, namely because I have better things to do than to have a beer at the local pub). Well, compared to it's namesake in Victoria, this one is much better. It has a pretty decent atmosphere, a lovely beer garden, and some pretty decent beers on tap, something that its namesake in Victoria is completely lacking. read more

I visited here recently for lunch, for the very first time, with friends. Although the inside was modern and airy, I somehow felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. The lunch menu was filled with many inviting choices, and there was a list of lunch specials available. Once we had ordered our meals, they seemed to take a very long time to be delivered to us, and weren't anything particularly special in relation to taste, nor price. I am not sure that I would dine or visit here again anytime soon. read more

I might be showing my age here but The Epping Hotel on Beecroft road had some major renovations quite a few years ago and it just isn't the same. Long gone are old favourites like the big enclosed beer garden, that little cool area near the pool tables, the seats around the fire place, the den bar, the scum bar and smoke filled night club called Tracks which in all fairness is still there. There is a nice bistro area now and a smaller beer garden area which over looks the side lane way. Right across from the train station it's a popular spot for locals who stop by for a chat after a day at the office or a meeting point for those looking to catch the train and head out. I spent far too many nights in this hotel when I was first of drinking age & still drop by from time to time but the years & a few misdirected renovations have seen the pub decline at an even greater rate than I have. Long gone is the separate bars inside catering for different clientele & in it's place stands a big soulless hall of beer, pokies & sticky cushions. The food is pretty good but there is a lot of better & cheaper options in the surrounding restaurants & nothing really to pull you into the place apart from it's close to the station so is your last place to get a drink before boarding a train or bus with a bunch of fellow travellers who are yet to discover the modern convenience of deodorant or much else in the way of hygiene or manners. read more

It was ok. wouldn't go out of my way to go there again. It was ok. It's a little looking place from the outside, but once you get inside it opens up. Never had been there before, but it was ok. it's weird getting in there, and confusing, but once you're in, it's like AHHHHH that's how. I had to go through the smokers area to get to inside. I was meeting family and friends for a couple of drinks and some food. It's super easy to get to from the train line, which is great. Once inside, the bar people were really nice!!!! Prices are what to expect in Sydney. Pretty expensive, but at about 9 pm they had $10 cocktails start. The bistro is small and unassuming in the corner. This is where things got interesting!! I went to order, and the two girls behind the counter were so nice. But the older lady there, pushed one of the girls out the way to take orders, and she was so rude to everyone in line, and to the two girls working behind the counter. I felt so bad for them. So I ignored the older lady and talked to the other two girls. The older lady was even rude to my brother in law and told him to move along when he was told they were out of the food he was about to order!! "move along then." This is how you treat customers. Well, I for one, won't be back. The food was delish though. I had fish and chips and they were so good!! I loved the chips!! The pizza however takes about 30 mins. And they tell you AFTER you pay for it!! Say something beforehand people!!! BEFORE SOMEONE PAYS, TELL THEM. THEY MAY NOT HAVE TIME TO WAIT!!! Very nice hotel which has undergone plenty of renovations recently and kept at high maintenance. It's great for holding functions like wedding receptions and school formals or graduation celebrations. There is also a small gym available upstairs for members to use for a small additional fee. It's pretty accessible as it is just a brief 5 minute walk from Epping train station :) read more

Given the bistro was empty for lunch on Jan 2nd, plus we only had a group of 8 people, our order should not have been that challenging. I ordered my filet mignon Medium, however it was delivered Rare. For $36 I expect a simple steak to be cooked accurately. It was almost as if the steak had not seen a flame! Never again! read more

The Epping hotel can pretty much be split into three areas - the smoker's balcony facing on to Epping Road, open to the air and appropriately chilly and noisy, the bar area with not enough seating but still generally empty and dead save for the old bar flies, and the restaurant which serves surprisingly good food at prices marked up from your average pub meal. I'd come here for food, but never for the atmosphere. read more
