Ricotta pancakes are a must try
    Emily C.

Majors Bay Road has really become a bit of a food hub. I started exploring the area last weekend and Cucina looked very promising - Bustling with customers, with large servings of food coming out from the back. Perfect first impression. I noticed some negative reviews, so maybe I am lucky, but I found the ricotta pancakes incredible! Spongey, creamy, and delicious, I normally would not be able to finish a stack of pancakes myself but this was effortless. This probably says more about my gluttony than the actual pancakes though. We also ordered a savory dish, avocado and mushroom crostini with poached eggs - Also delicious. Coffee was a lighter blend than most. However, I really enjoyed this meal and would recommend anyone to check it out.

This is my local cafe but i'll let you come too because it's pretty great. This cafe has a loyal group of regulars who come for breakfast/lunch or pick up coffees each morning. The reason they are so loyal is the beautiful food and great coffee they pump our day after day. The glass cabinet as you walk in boasts cakes, take home sauces/meals and cookies. The kitchen provides a wide array of italian inspired meals which from my tasting are delicious. the baristas produce consistent coffee for coffee lovers. The place is on the average to pricy side... breakfast 14-25$. The place is pretty big with a large outdoor area, two indoor area and a small private area by the kitchen. The decor includes a lot of wood paneling but still looks modern and open. In my opinion the best cafe on the strip.

There were only six of us and the restaurant was filled with a wedding party, 50th birthday and small tables of 2, 4 and 6. It is glass all around and no verandah so it is very noisy. We were near a woman who has no volume control and that prevented our conversations until she was eating. It was a relief when she left as the reflection off the windows was a shocker. The group menu was a bit of a disappointment. There was no choice. The food was OK. Looking at the food photos from four years ago there was a similarity but just it missed the mark. The bread was not cut up and we did not have the knives to break into the crust. The penne was bland. The lamb needed a sauce, mint?, to cut into the fat. The dessert was more cream than cake. For the price paid, the food was disappointing. However, the amount of food was more than sufficient and they were prepared with doggy bags and containers for us to take away the leftovers. Maybe we should have gone for the a la carte? The service was excellent. Our waiter was very good. Parking was still no problem and on hot days if you are prepared to walk a little further you can park under some trees.

So if you want to see white collar people"s idea of having fun, wearing party hats and sucking up to their boss, head down.

I've heard rumours this place was once the shining star along the restaurant strip of Majors Bay Rd. But a change in ownership several years ago has ensured its dismal reputation. Never one to take much notice of bad reviews, I decided to give Il Tratto a go. Maybe I should have listened! Il Tratto's prices are far too high for the small portion sizes. A plate of non-so-fresh king prawns will set you back $40, while a couple of crumbs, which they call garlic bread, costs $4. The pizza's are okay, but a little on the doughy side, and toppings are scarce. If you like noisy venues and average, overpriced food, this is the place for you. But as for me, I will not be returning any time soon.

First approach the first words - do you have a reservation. "No" and since that moment it was all down hill. We were made to feel like we where an inconvience to them for not booking. We had a waiter that really gave me goose bumps, unfriendly who couldnt pull a smile! Our order was simple, white bait fritters, Tratto ra ro pizza, rocket salad and soft drinks. Nothing special as it was an early dinner. We were asked if all food was to come out at same time - 'yes". The pizza came out first , 10 minutes later the white bait fritters with the salad. Not too impressed as the fritters was someones course! Pizza - I have had better. Fritters must have been bought frozen and just thrown in the fryer no taste. Salad, I think the lid from the salt shaker must have fallen off as there was so much salt on it that it was impossible to eat. At no point did any of the wait staff come over to ask us how the meal was or was there anything we needed. It was keeping tabs on our plates as soon as they where empty to remove them and get us on our merry way. This place has really lost the "WoW" factor the old owners use to bring to enhance the reputation of the venue. It still seems a popular place - but for me I dont think I will be going back. There are far more superior places to have a simple pizza!
