They both play in several leagues and have a couple days a week that they're in on a regular basis. Apart from tennis camp as a kid, I've never been much of a tennis player so when I'm there, usually I stick to the fitness area. From that perspective, there is nothing terribly special about the offerings but it's pretty much got whatever you need. I've never been in when it was crazy busy in the fitness area so I'm not sure how well people manage with one squat rack. The people who I see have always been friendly though and happy to let you work in. Even though the fitness space isn't huge, it does a nice job of giving you what you need without taking too much space from the tennis courts. Plus they also have a separate space for fitness classes if that's something you're interested in. Overall, it's a good option if you'd like to play tennis and be able to work out at the same place or even if (like me) you're not hitting the tennis courts.

I picked up a racquet and tried my hardest to hit the balls speeding out of the machine... then I get hit in the eye. I had a black eye for a week. But, that didn't stop me from coming back. Fast forward to me attending summer camp every year with Venus and Fred until I was in high school. I attended Roy C. Ketcham High, and we had our Varsity Tennis practices there on the outside courts. As far as I know, they still conduct practices there because RCK is too cheap to build their own courts. It was really nice growing up there and then returning to play games.

So in that spirit, I thought I'd jot down my view of Cross Court Tennis. I spend a fair bit of time there - 2-3x/week, typically. I play in their leagues, I receive instruction from their pros, I practice. Any place you spend that much time at, you can certainly find things to nitpick and criticize. But this is the deal -- CC bills itself as the best tennis facility in the Hudson Valley, and I have to agree. I've been to pretty much every club on both sides of the river, and this is just clear as day. Lou and Ron have been singular in their focus for tennis players -- and while some members might moan, "why don't they have any gym equipment?" or somesuch other complaint about their lack of fitness diversity -- there are real, tangible benefits to CC being ONLY a tennis club. It is a tennis atmosphere. If you love the sport, I doubt you'll find better competition, better courts, or better options within a 50 mile radius. Maybe 100. My guess is that you won't find a club that matches its value for dollar spent unless you live someplace where you can play outdoors year-round. And oh yeah: I recently got my 7 year-old started on lessons. I gotta say, just seeing the kid smile constantly on a tennis court -- speaks volumes to the way CC runs its business, and where their priorities lie.

See, if you go to crunch, or golds, there's a thick meat fest going on, and the fellas like to hold down the squat rack for hours at a time. So, you have to work around your squats, which can ruin your flow. At Taconic, however, maybe 4 people actually do squats, so it's never a problem. Walk in, and B line it right to the squat rack. Sweet! It costs $44 a month, which is almost twice what most places charge, but you get that private feel for the extra cost. Well, it only costs me $25 a month via health ways program for being a Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance carrier. ($25 gets me in all the gyms BOOM) People apparently wait to take the worst smelling dumps ever recorded in human history at this place. I feel bad for the employees who work at the desk which is connected to the men's locker room door. Cardio equipment, free weights, cable machines, and various push, pull, ab and leg machines. A nice sized room for classes, stretching, sleeping, farting, staring at yourself in the mirrors, snorting pre workout, having a sneaky dart, etc. Staff is super friendly, although small, tiny, and weak af. Dan, Dom, and Paul are probably the weakest people you'll ever meet in your life. Don't let that fool you, it has nothing to do with the weights! The weights are perfectly fine, they weigh exactly what it says on them. Mostly, it has to do with them being extremely loose, flapping vagina holes. Seriously, go there. Support the place. It's nice to be able to lift without being surrounded by dozens of stacked ass body builders deflating your sense or accomplishment, because your a scrawny twig with horrible form and no rhyme or reason.
