I want to start by saying my only previous experience with gyms has been at large chain gyms. I stopped going to those gyms not only because it was too crowded, but I just didn't find the workout routines that fun. I started going to 1A Fitness during the quarantine because I vowed to make myself a better athlete. At first I was hesitant at how much I could improve without much equipment. The owner, Kevin, was able to create really good programming that was very challenging and pushed my cardio and strength to the limit. They also assigned me a coach, Justin, that would give me nutrition tips and create a specific at-home workout geared towards my goal. Recently they started having outdoor classes that incorporates Olympic lifting with metcon style workout. Before I didn't enjoy these kinds of workouts but I am now loving them! 1A Fitness has undoubtedly made me the most fit I have ever been in my life! The owner Kevin and the coaches Justin and Monica have helped me achieve that. I would HIGHLY recommend this gym to anyone looking to get in shape and want instructor led workout classes. Pros: Great coaches who are very helpful and friendly. The gym has an awesome community and the programming is fun, diverse, and never gets stale. When The "Safer At Home" directive was issued to the city of Los Angeles to stop the spread of the coronavirus, I had just left my former gym and needed a new place to exercise. I was fortunate to have won a 90 day membership to 1A Fitness. Although all gyms in the city where ordered to close for in-person workouts, 1A Fitness was offering an at-home fitness challenge. The gym owner, Kevin was very proactive and adaptive to all the changes taking place during the quarantine. He instituted an online program that provided multiple classes to be taken via Zoom. Regardless of your home gym equipment, one could take part in the workouts. Kevin along with his fellow coaches divided up the 1A Fitness members and made sure to check in weekly on our progress. Kevin, Monica, & Justin made sure to see to it that we were all exercising daily, eating properly, hydrating, and getting enough sleep. As the pandemic wore on into the spring and summer, Kevin slowly re-opened the gym to accommodate up to four members in the gym at a time for one hour classes. Each member was given their own space & equipment to exercise with. As conditions improved, Kevin opened the parking lot for outdoor workouts with the same standard of each member having their own workout space and equipment. At all times, I always felt safe and confident in the environment that Kevin fostered. He made sure all members had properly cleaned equipment to work with and that the gym was kept clean too. I especially appreciated the fact that Kevin took the time to get to know me and my goals. I always felt confident in his instruction and the workouts he programmed. Although I was only a member for 3 months, I very much felt a part of the 1A Fitness community and look forward to when I can rejoin the gym again. read more

I recently joined 1A Fitness for their 6-week challenge and have had my ass kicked every single day. The coaches, Kevin, Justin, and Monica are all amazing. They really make sure that they don't just overload you with weight. They want to make sure that your form is correct and will size you up with their recommended weight. A typical workout at their gym will include a warm-up (that'll make you feel like it's already a workout...lol), a strength portion, and a metcon (metabolic conditioning). Classes will run about an hour. Another great thing to mention is that their classes have no more than 8 students per hour. They have classes at 6am, 7am, 8:30am, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm. Location is also great as it's located right in the heart of Downtown Arcadia! If you're looking for a gym in the area, definitely give this place a try! read more

1A Fitness is a training gym that focuses on individual PRs, building strength, conditioning, proper form, and reaching goals. Clients use an app that tracks their progress so they can see how much growth they've had. There are free weights, kettle bells, benches, belts, etc. And they also do a lot of bodyweight exercises, building muscle and strength with the equipment you were born with. Bodyweight exercises sound easy, but when Kevin is the trainer, guess again. Everything from cardio to HIIT, to beginning foundation, to no-frills total body strength training can be found at 1A. I consider myself a pretty fit person, but let me just say that after a class with Kevin, I definitely questioned my athleticism. My favorite part of 1A Fitness has to be the people. The moment you open the door to the studio, you immediately feel like you belong to their family. They have small-group workout sessions, which is definitely preferred. This way, your trainer and your classmates give you more individualized attention instead of leaving you out in the dust to fend for yourself. Even as the newbie, there wasn't a single moment where I felt like I didn't belong, or that no one there cared. Even though 1A has to temporarily close due to COVID-19, Kevin and his team have been providing helpful videos to prevent people like me from falling off track. What a great local place to work out. Seriously though, ask for Kevin... When I first found this place back in December 2017 I was only planning on attending it for the 2 weeks that I was off for Christmas break (I work in education) to keep myself busy and active but here I am in February 2018 and still attending. Classes are held by Kevin and other awesome coaches, coaches are very knowledgeable and personable. It's been many years since I've been to a gym, but I've been wanting to get back into it. Luckily, I attended a Yelp Elite "Fit Club" event here a couple of weeks ago and I won a raffle for a free one-month membership. I've been going three times a week, for a couple of weeks, and like it so much, I've already made the mental commitment to finish out the year. This gym splits its space between the work-out area and a Brazilian jiu jitsu studio. The main gym instructor, Kevin M., runs the classes "boot camp" style and he's so patient and understanding of everyone's goals and limitations. I have a bad hip and knees due to osteoarthritis, but his hands-on approach tailors a workout that has really helped me out, strengthening my legs and core muscles, while building up my stamina. The class sizes are intimate, usually 6-8 people, so there's lots of personal attention. The gym has two changing rooms and both men's & women's bathrooms. I highly recommend giving this gym a try. If you go to their website, you can register for a free class and they have an Introductory Offer of $1 a day for 30 days! One item of note, they're looking to up-size to a slightly larger facility right up the street, so stay tuned for an update at a later date. read more

This gym may be smaller than others, but it has plenty of equipment and is extremely welcoming. I was never really heavily into fitness, but the staff at this place made it comfortable and I did not feel out of place, compared to other gyms. All the trainers are knowledgeable about health and fitness. They helped me focused on my endurance and form, which motivated me to work out more! The group work out sessions were challenging, but the end result was worth it! I was a bit intimidated at first, but the support from both classmates and trainers made the experience 10x better. 1A will kick your ass, every week, every workout. I started by attending the 6 Week Challenge, which is their boot camp training focused on correcting form, building strength through reptition with a bit of cardio, and teaching how to eat healthy and effectively for building body muscle. Every class begins with a 10 minute warm up, a strenth training routine, a cardio routine, and ends with a 5 minute stretch. The trainers here are all really great at giving feedback on how to improve, and seeing that their students are challenged, regardless of where they are in experience and strength. Unfortunately... I have never left here NOT drenched in my own sweat. So whether you're a novice like me... just looking to figure out how your body muscles work and how weight training works; or if you're like the guys that we work out alongside that are deadlifting 250lbs... it's a great place with great people to be. read more

I've had several failed attempts at joining a gym or staying committed to a fitness routine over the past few years. Although I never considered myself to be an athletic person, I always wanted to challenge myself and get back in shape. Emailing this business was a really good decision. Great atmosphere and everyone I've met so far is very friendly. Kevin has been absolutely amazing. The knowledge, love, and pride he has goes into each moment of every workout. He is sooooo encouraging which I think is super important whatever your fitness goals are. I wanted a trainer that could listen to my goals, push me beyond what I just do at the gym, and keep up with my eating habits -- If you struggle through the process, (food, mental status, self-doubt, etc), he will talk you through it. He will push you through so many of your "I can't moments." I've only been working out here for 3 weeks but I feel better and more confident (even though I haven't lost a noticeable amount of weight). I'm a 46 year old chef. I have beat the sh*t out of my body over the years. I have abused my insides, in addition to being dealt a crappy gene pool. I had a scheduled, planned quadruple coronary bypass surgery back in December as a result of my work lifestyle. It has been a scary, eye opening experience. Once I was well enough to be more physically active, I reached out to Kevin and he was more than happy to help. In the last 2 months, he has helped me train 3 days a week, an hour each workout. He has worked with my limitations; both physically and emotionally. He has created a regimen that is tailored to my medical conditions, but that also challenges me, helps build my stamina and improves my strength.
