Easy and simple. After a belligerent customer tried to parse and debate the language of contract terms, a rep named Abbas got to us and was super friendly and helpful. Gave my reservation package that I confirmed a couple days prior, received my car, and learned it was a level better than expected. Very helpful for this trip. A quick four minute walk across to the parking facility and I was literally on the highway within 20 minutes of stepping up to the counter. Vehicle was clean and ready to go. Minor scuffs in a couple spots, which is normal for a rental in my experience. Ran well and like the drive for a large SUV. Return exchange was super smooth with no lines. The Budget rep was friendly, and I saw the folio receipt in my email within minutes. We were in line for flight check-in within 10 minutes of pulling in to return the car. Reviewed my receipt and no surprise fees. Bonus points from reserving from my Alaska Airlines account, too. Boom. I'll use these folks again next time.

Let's start with the good: It's aptly named. Definitely the cheapest car rental place out of ALB. I got a pretty new, clean, Nissan Sentra. Unlimited mileage. When I brought it back there were no hidden fees. I paid exactly what I was told it'd be. Now the bad: No counter at the airport itself. You have to wait outside at the taxi stand for the shuttle. This sucks in the winter (though I will say the wait was short and they did drop me right at my airline when I was flying back). The actual office is very cramped. There are desks right next to the counter. The guys were all playing grabass right in front of the customers. Ugh. They didn't walk around the car with me to check it out. They just pointed me in the direction and said where it was. Also it'd be nice to know how to work the radio and where all the controls are and such. The point is you get what you pay for. If you're a cheapskate like me you might not mind this agency. If you want to spend more money on a better agency you'll probably be happier. Also, pay attention to the fin print!

You have to use the courtesy phone to call an extension and then they come and pick you up to take you to an off-site rental place. After being stuck in airports all day, this did not make me happy. Then, paying with a debit card isn't good enough. You also have to provide a major credit card OR proof of your returning flight. I had to get out my laptop and sign into my email to be able to show proof of my return flight to get my car. Again, I was not happy. This was the most inconvenient way of renting a car that I have ever experienced. Next time, I will pay more or get an Uber. Dang it, don't be Thrifty! You deserve better.

Before my trip I was genius and forgot my wallet at home in Hawaii. So the only thing I had on me was my passport. I've rented with Alamo several times so I knew they would have all of my information on file. However that didn't matter. They gave me a hard time and I was unable to get a car. I spoke with Alamo again and they told me I could get a temporary license and that would be able to work. So I had to purchase a new license via online DMV. After I was able to do that everything worked out. There was a woman working the outside booth, I didn't catch her name... she was the manager of the pick up booth that day. She was super sweet and friendly! She first tried to put me in a clown car, I was not driving that nor was it what I paid for. I was very angry and annoyed especially after all I just went through. However she told me when something is clean in the category in which I purchased I could get it. I was mad I then had to wait again. Shortly later she pulled up a vehicle and was like here goes a little upgrade so we can get you out of here. Overall I had a crappy experience but her super friendly and sweet attitude really turned it around. Kindness goes a long way, and it's free!

The reason I am writing this review now is because my most recent experience was still excellent despite a small hiccup with available cars on the lot (easily/quickly resolved). The check-in process inside the terminal went smoothly. The interaction at the garage booth was fine--Chloe M. was professional and helpful in communicating what was being done to provide enough available cars. The manager was also there and stepping in to solve this issue in a calm and respectful manner. Bonus points--he was dressed in professional attire and communicated well, which gave me confidence in a positive outcome. Alamo at the Albany Airport is my first choice rental car company based on experiences. My bill has always been accurate. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, which is especially welcomed after/before airline travel.
