It is on the official "Music Highway" which is the stretch of highway between Memphis AND is on the Rufus Thomas Walking the Dog Trail, gotta love it!! This I-40 West Rest Area is located just outside Jackson, TN. This rest area has alot to offer while traveling. It offers: restrooms, parking, picnic tables, telephones, and pet exercise areas. It's clean, neatly landscaped and has easy access with clear markings with lots of parking for cars and trucks alike Bottom line: Having been a life long music but, a radio guy and a 20+ year Me Memphis resident this i-40 rest area gets my vote for coolest named stop in the world because it's THE Isaac Hayes, Tina Turner, Booker T. and the Mg's Rest Stop! This is a nice hotel. That's a good part of Jackson, Tennessee. It's safe. It's close to the interstate. The rooms were absolutely spotless. They had furniture in it. That was not too old. You could tell the mattresses and everything was good furniture. Nice mirror nice lamp nice chair air conditioner worked well. Showers were clean. Bathroom was clean sink was clean new carpet that have been placed in the ass in the last few years, very nice late lady at the front desk they checked me in. Office says to be open 4 days a week for 2 hours each day. First spot we tried "assigned" had no power. Made a call and she was very helpful and told us to just find another site and warned us away from some with no working water. The power boxes are on the ground and most have full ant beds inside. Sewer inlet is 6-9" off the ground making draining tanks almost impossible even with a brace system. Rained overnight and the site turned into a swamp. Both of the sites we tried were not even close to level requiring 14 total leveling blocks. I was told that the park was recently sold to new owners and everyone has moved out. It is super close to I40 making it easy to get on and off. The exit to the north was too tight and uphill to get a 40' fifth wheel out without causing damage. I was able to use the main exit by going the wrong direction on the entrance road. If you live local and need a full time slot it might be great but for travelers on an overnight stay I'd say skip it! Oh I almost forgot someone was shooting nearby for about an hour last night.

I noticed a few things at this rest area including a nicely manicured lawn with covered picnic tables (no BBQ grills), interpretive signs sharing a little history during the Civil War in TN, fully stocked vending machines were available, a sign by the parking spaces that said: Music Highway and names of Isaac Hayes, Tina Turner, Booker T and the MG's (I thought it was cool) and inside the facility were black&white framed pictures of them hung on the wall. Gotta go! Happy travels! Review #1874
