Waited 45 minutes in line to get told they did not have any cars. I had 1 reserved. They done the same thing to at least 2 other people. All they had was a big truck. I had a small car reserved not a huge truck. I'm beyond pissed to say this least. read more

Second time renting from here and it's been excellent. Getting the car took less than 5 mins as well as dropping it off taking 5 mins or less. I drove 700+ miles and had no issues at all with the car. I got good mileage too which I am not used to in Los Angeles. I will definitely use Enterprise again. read more

Enterprise did a great job! When we arrived in Des Moines, we needed wheels to get us around Cue Enterprise, and our enterprising agent! We've been loyal customers of Enterprise for quite some time, and this trip reminded us why we are. Showing up with our reservation in hand made things fast and easy. The gate agent punched in our codes and reservations came right up, and the keys were handed right over. The car was located out in a lot right outside the door, so it was fast to get there. No shuttles needed. The car exceeded expectations. It was a newer car, with some extra little features that were nice. It was large enough, and roomy enough. The agent gave the option of either getting charged extra for refilling the fuel or letting us know that we should really get that taken care of. Dropping off the car at the end was fast and easy- we followed the signs, until we pulled right in line, and some gal jumped in the car, looked things over, took the keys and wished us bon voyage! Overall, we couldn't have asked for an easier car rental experience. We were happy all the way around with the level of service and the quality of the car rental. Five stars! read more

I'll be honest - I think the traditional model of renting a car is a rip-off, so I usually rent through Turo. But on a recent trip to Des Moines, I couldn't find any good cars for my travel, so I tried Enterprise. To my surprise, they had big SUVs and pretty nice trucks for just a little more than a regular mid-size car. The whole process was pretty straightforward, the truck was perfect, and I will definitely be using Enterprise DSM more often. If their prices for Trucks and SUVs stay low, I'll be a loyal customer for a long time. read more

My wife and I were traveling from Wisconsin to Missouri when our car broke down on the side of the highway just outside or Des Moines. We were towed to the dealership to have it fixed and a shuttle from Enterprise came and picked me up. Turns out that I was taken to the wrong location and dropped off. When I asked to be shuttled to the airport location I was told that they are not allowed to take anybody to "that" location, (whatever that means)??? I then asked the young lady at the service desk if she would call the correct location to see if they would come and pick me up. I was told no! I asked why and she said that the call would just go to a call center. She was impressively unhelpful. I was able to get the number for a cab that had me waiting on hold for a considerable amount of time. I was fortunate to have the Jeep dealership in Indianola send a family member who did not work at either place give me a ride to the correct location. Thank you, Jose, from Southtown Chrysler/Jeep. Once I was at the airport location I was unable to use the credit card my wife gave me because my first name wasn't on the card. I then tried my credit union card and it was unacceptable because it was a debit card. After finally finding a credit card that was acceptable I was on my way with no issues. I was planning to return the car in Wisconsin and I was told that would be fine. When I attempted to do so, I was informed that because of the location "change" it would be an additional $1000. I decided to just drive it back to Des Moines. When I arrived "Jesse" was extremely helpful and reduced my charges by a whole day after hearing about the grief I had experienced. It was very welcome kindness and I believe Jesse to provide the kind of customer service this country has been lacking since COVID and a last couple of years where service has been in serious decline. Big shout out to Jesse at the Des Moines airport location. He was exceptional. Thanks for bringing back the service this country has been lacking. To date, I have had nothing but good experiences with Enterprise. And like it's Federation namesake, my rental car trips help me head to the second star on the left and straight on til morning. In this case last Friday, I had just finished by drive from Chicago to Des Moines and was anxious to change from a per mile rental to a much cheaper flat rate. From DSM, I would head straight to Ames and visit my elderly parents for the weekend. This was also a poignant time, as my son's grandfather had died earlier in the week. Like Tom and my parents, great people don't stay around forever and I was going to take advantage of every opportunity to see them while I still could. My Hyundai Elantra was fun to drive, didn't use up too much gas, and only cost my about $50 for the weekend (plus gas). My Dad likes cars and drove it around a bit. He thought that it was a little bouncy and that the engine was a bit noisy. Otherwise, he enjoyed the handling, the acceleration, the styling and the ride. Pick up and drop off at DSM was easy and fast. The Enterprise folks were also friendly, efficient, and offered no pressure to purchase the insurance options or try to find a ding that wasn't there. Easy to find inside the airport location. I was greeted nearly immediately and taken care of quickly. I really hate when people ask why you're in town and need a car. Do you be honest with them? Do you make up a wild story? (always fun to do that) As per normal they try to get you to upgrade to a bigger vehicle. I had already reserved a full sized car due to the older generations I would be chauffeuring around while I was in town. I am used to driving a Honda CRV so switching to a car is one of the things I hate about renting vehicles. The young lady behind the counter was able to give me that upgrade for just a few dollars more a day. No where near what I would have had to pay had I reserved it. This made me happy and them as well. It appears an SUV is a bit harder to rent out from the airport. I do like the the rental lot is close and easy to navigate. It's literally right out the door. I was given the keys to a nice new black Chevy Equinox and away I went. I won't do a review on the car itself, but I will tell you this. If you have tall people who will be sitting in the back seat, DON"T GET IT. Once you move the front seats back, all your leg room in the back is GONE. read more

I began the search with a competitive rental desk, who was sold out by 9:30am due to many cancelled and delayed flights. I quickly popped over to Enterprise and they were hesitant to offer a one-way trip, but after a quick check with the manager, it was approved. The agent was so friendly and helpful. For an Easter weekend, my family and I were going to be traveling and decided to rent a vehicle for our trek. Normally, I'm not an airport renter because of all the additional fees that airport locations tack on. However, since it was Easter weekend, all local branches are observing the day. I get to the counter and see a couple of young guys there - they helped right away. They looked fairly new but were well trained! He checked my information and offered me an upgrade to my reservation for no additional charge. Returning the rental was quick and easy as well. I wrote to their 'care@enterprise.com' site as they asked me to and I got responses from Charesia, David & Marlene all promising me someone from their corporate office would contact me further concerning the problems I encountered. Well folks, it's been a month now & listen carefully for the sound of chirping crickets because no...one...called...me. So, I'll make good on MY promise to them as opposed to them breaking their promise to me when I say I'll never use Enterprise/Alamo for any rental car usage. I would go elsewhere. These guys were friendly but not extremely fast or bright. I rented a car from a separate location and was dropping off here and had a terrible experience returning it. They ended up closing out my contract while I was in front of them but the name on the rental was incorrect. I asked them to fix it and they said they couldn't at the moment as the system was closed out now and only a manager can reopen an account. I spoke to a manager on the phone and she said she would do it the next day. I can not claim it as a business expense if the correct name is not on the contract. I had numerous calls and emails with the manager over the next few months and she would always say that she was going to do it but then it never got done. At this point, I'm disputing the transaction and would recommend going elsewhere. read more

I changed my review from 1 to 4 stars for a couple of reasons. After the first couple of weeks of not being able to get in touch with anyone at the office I got a call back. That person was very friendly but I still didn't receive the receipt. When I left a message again I received a call back just a few hours later. Turns out they still had my email address wrong, but this time they fixed it. I received my receipt later that day. Now, it's not 5 stars because it took 3 weeks to get this figured out. The actual rental process was fantastic as it always is with Enterprise and the people I spoke with on the phone were very professional and friendly. read more

I travel to DSM frequently. This time my scheduled arrival was 11:00 PM on a Friday evening. My usual car rental company is not open late on Fridays, but Enterprise is. As it turns out, my flight and several others were delayed and did not arrive until after Enterprise's usual 12:00 midnight closing time but they stayed open to accommodate reservations. Vehicles in the class I had requested were no longer available so I got a free upgrade to a nicer car. It was very cold there that week, and I really appreciated the seat warmers and steering wheel warmer on my rental car. read more

(First review) I would have given the experience 5 Stars however the car I was given in Des Moines Iowa appear to have just been turned in from Missouri and it was dirty. When I was in Pella I decided to keep the car for one extra day which was a Saturday and was told that they were closed on Sunday and I had to wait until Monday morning to return the car and had to pay an extra day and insurance for a car that I wasn't using. This has been my "go-to" car rental in Des Moines. Usually the least expensive and usually pretty quick service. Friendly folks behind the counter and a big THANK YOU for moving the return closer to the terminal and inside the parking deck! Nice surprise. My only complaint is that their car selection is pretty weak. I guess that is reflected in the price. I occasionally get an upgrade which is nice. read more

I've rented from this location twice in the past year, and both experiences have only been ok. The 1st time was in Dec 2013 and it took over 30 minutes for a car to be ready. After a long flight that landed after 10p, sitting around waiting for a car was the last thing I wanted to be doing. I rented again a few weeks ago (no wait this time, which was great). After returning the car and flying home, my friend realized he had lost his keys. I called Enterprise the next morning to see if they could check the car. I did not receive a return call. I called again the next day, and the girl who answered said she would check with the manager in charge of cleaning the returned cars and call me back. I did not receive a return call. I called a 3rd time the next day, and the girl checked the lost and found at the rental counter and said there were no keys matching the description. All of the reps I talked with were friendly, but overall service received has been disappointing in both my experiences. About 75% of my trips to the midwest are into Omaha, where I always use Enterprise and get fantastic service - the DSM location is a marked difference. I continue to rent from them only because most of my rental car points are with Enterprise, but if it weren't for that I'd definitely try another company. read more

The rental experience was not good at all. We reserved a large SUV 2 months prior to trip. As the trip came closer I called the agency and they said they would not have a vehicle for me because of spring break. Why do you think I reserved do early. I moved my reservation to the Des Moines airport and was told I would have a large SUV or at least a minivan. I came to pick up vehicle and they offered me a Hyundia Sante Fe . Would you haul 6 people in this. I don't think so. I had to get manager to get resolved into a minivan. I look in our company parking lot with 10 of your rental cars and wonder why I would use you service. read more

We arrived on what was supposed to be the 11:30 pm flight but actually arrived at midnite. I was really worried about having to sleep at the airport! However the desk stayed open for us and quickly and pleasantly got us out. It does seem that they have a promptness issue there, but my experience was about as good as it could be. Had to use Enterprise for the first time in awhile when flying into Iowa. Upon my arrival I was told it would be about 15 minutes before a car would be available for me. I'm perplexed, isn't that why I made the reservation so that you'd know I was coming in... to get a vehicle to rent?? The gal at the counter was very nice and apologetic but it ended up taking 45 minutes to get my car. I should NEVER have to wait that long to rent a car. I've used plenty of other companies and never have I had to wait. Des Moines is a big enough city that more cars should have been available. The woman at the counter was the only reason I didn't cancel and rebook with another company. No other companies at that airport were forcing their customers to 'wait' for a vehicle. read more

We really enjoyed our time in Iowa. The staff at the Des Moines location was terrific. Down side is that they did not have our reserved suv available and were only able to offer us a "12 person van" that was very industrial. It turned out to be fine and they gave us s huge discount for the inconvenience. I was disappointed that even after I presented my plenti card my points did not get accounted for. Waited for over 30 minutes on a reserved rental. Over five other waiting just as long. They didn't have cars ready, did not seem to be apathetic, and one of floor managers had a family member visit with a puppy while customers are sitting down pissed that no action is taking place. My rental experience at the airport was excellent. The car was ready, clean, and easy to locate. The rental process was smooth and while I was asked about insurance it wasn't pushed on me as has been the case at other locations. If I didn't have to drop the car off, my experience would have been 5*. Because I was dropping off a 1-way I kept encountering problems, from no location to exorbitant fees. I have rented through Enterprise several times, and they always give good service. If the car you reserved is not available, they will give you a better one to make it right. This is a night-and-day difference from Budget Car Rental, which has degenerated into a heartless company whose goal is to lock you in to unwanted fees. I flew in and my car was ready, except I had issues with my credit card and to make matters worse, my bank debit card had been flagged because of my emergency travel, I forgot to tell the bank I was traveling. This review is a couple of months late however I do want to acknowledge the outstanding service I received from Sheri Rowland at the airport location. She was so friendly and helpful, just what I needed after a long flight and I still had an hour and half of driving ahead of me. The return was so easy. I went with the prepaid fuel option so I didn't have to find a gas station near the airport. All I had to do was drop it off with an empty tank. The whole experience was awesome! read more

Got a crappy half a car that used WAY too much fuel for the size. Yellow engine light came on after I had it a couple weeks. Called in to the rental place in Iowa City and was told it was a tire pressure light, so i should just check the pressure. No gauge, but I filled the tires! Biggest issue: I came to Iowa with a one-way ticket and was told to rent the car for a month and receive a discount if I returned it early. Monthly rate was $800. Weekly rate was $400. I returned it exactly a week early and had to fight for a discount. In the end I only received $150 back, not even 1/4 the monthly rate. Tried to argue with the guy charging my credit card and he kept adding in fees and taxes. I was not arguing fees and taxes, just base rate. Left feeling ripped off. Two weeks later when paying my $851.47 credit card bill, I felt even more ripped off. I travel and rent frequently. Enterprise used to be my favorite vendor. Now they are last resort. If renting at DSM, I recommend National. I got a great little Hyundai Elentra with XM radio, USB ports, great pick up, and good fuel mileage for alot less than I paid for the crappy Yaris Enterprise stuck me with. read more

I rented a Ford Focus this past weekend from Enterprise Rent-a-car in Des Moines, IA, for a 2-day rental. I couldn't believe the low price of $29 for this weekend rental! Everyone was courteous, professional, and helpful in providing me with excellent directions as well as what to look for when driving back and returning to the airport on Sunday.
