He convinced me back then to get a set of hearing aids (even though I was only in my 40s!) to help cope with a case of tinnitus in my right ear. Throughout the years, I've found Dr. Cohen to be a great professional--always kind, considerate, understanding, and knowledgable about aids and other solutions that meet my challenging needs. This was especially true when my tinnitus bloomed to full-on single-sided deafness. (I completely lost hearing in my right ear due to surgery in 2013 to remove a golf ball sized acoustic neuroma--or benign brain tumor--which also destroyed my right ear's hearing nerve.) His current office, shared with an optometrist/eye glass store, might not look like much. But it doesn't impact the type and level of service and support he provides! (In fact, I think his "low-overhead" approach probably saved me SEVERAL thousands of dollars over a mid-town audiologist's office offering the same top-end hearing aids.) I would definitely recommend giving Dr. Cohen for your hearing challenges. I think you'll find his no-pressure, gentle approach to be very refreshing!

Dr. Stidham is a miracle worker. When I was given the opportunity to work anywhere (and I mean…read moreanywhere) in the country last year, I chose to return to the bay, one of the reasons being so I could continue to see her. I'm partially deaf - about 30% hearing in my left ear and about 80% in my right. Yes, that's right, you have to shout when you're around me and generally it's a good idea to walk on my right side so I can hear you talking. But if it weren't for Dr. Stidham, I'd probably be using one of those antiquated ear horns, or even further down the road, I probably would have died (seriously, not hyperbolically). I've been going to her since I was 14, and she has operated and consulted, operated and consulted, and so forth on my ears ever since. She's a younger-ish ENT but is extremely knowledgeable about all ear related ailments. She even takes requests! After one surgery had left my ears at uneven heights, I requested that she try to straighten them out for cosmetic reasons, and she complied. I still look a little goofy in sunglasses, but I'll live. On a more serious note, before Dr. Stidham, I had gone to the Children's Hospital for my ears. When my condition escalated and they could no longer treat me, they recommended her to me - said she was the best at what she does. That's a glowing endorsement right there, and I'm confident that the rest of the California Ear Institute is just as great. (And their hearing test facilities are GREAT! Fabulous!)

After a horrendous experience at another hearing device outfit, I visited Emily Esca. What a…read moredifference! The hearing test took 20 minutes instead of 2.5 hours. Dr. Esca diagnosed my hearing loss and suggested my getting top-of-the-line hearing aids for $1000 less than the other place on a half-price sale. Dr. Esca knows what she is doing. She's professional and approachable with patients' questions about follow-up, costs, and recommendations.

She examined the current hearing aid being used and adjusted it for optimal performance. Although the results indicated a diminished hearing acuity, Dr. Esca did not attempt to talk me into purchasing new hearing aids, but take a wait & see method if the current hearing aid adjustment would improve in the coming weeks. She also made suggestions to facilitate wearing the hearing aid consistently. I strongly recommend Dr. Esca at Listen Hear Diagnostics. Dr. Esca is very focused, supportive, and accommodating. After a thorough checkup with Dr Weismann, he explained what factors may be causing the ringing in my right ear. Hearing loss was ruled out since I had gotten a hearing test days prior. One of the diagnosis was TMJ. Turned out to be 100% right. Soft food diet and medication for a week. Two weeks later, no more RINGING! Thank you Doc!
