Fresh vegetables, large selection, large sizes
Matt M.

It may be early to review, since there is a soft opening and they do not have have all shelves filled, but I am grading it on promise. It looks like it will be a great addition to the Mandarin area.

I really don't know where to begin with this review; the customer service, the husband and wife…read moreteam, the phenomenal selection of foods, the prices, or the ambience - all of of this worthy of 20 stars! Starting with a selection of food, it is such a wide variety accommodating various cultural food attributes. You can find anything from various types of cheeses to curry ketchup to sweets, to all sorts of jams and pastas, rices and accoutrement of other items that just is unbelievable! And if they don't have it, they might possibly be able to get it for you - just ask as they are open & accommodating. This leads into the prices without using competition names, their prices far beat those of the big chain box stores with a much better variety! Now onto the wife and husband. Most of our time was spent with the wife who is beyond knowledgeable of all of the different products in there. Either she herself has used them or she has customer feedback within a majority of it being her own personal experience. (I would love to try her homemade stuffed cabbage based upon how she described it). Any question we had she was able to talk about it in a way that we understood what she was saying and how we could incorporated into our cooking skills. She is a wealth of knowledge who does not mind talking to us because you could tell she values her customers. Even listening to her with other customers she takes the same level of care time and patience! Her husband also very knowledgeable and extremely friendly and customer centered. They also had a young man who was there who was extremely helpful. I can tell why their team is so happy because it starts at the top. This husband and wife duo truly take pride and what they're offering to their customers. They treat you like family and are beyond phenomenal. Among the prices, the selection, and the support you can never go wrong coming here

She is always so kind and cheerful. Besides that, they don't seem very friendly but I think that it's because of a language barrier. However, a smile and or a simple Hello would make folks feel better about choosing to spend their money there. I enjoy sitting in their spacious eating area. It is set off far enough from the food bar to enjoy your meal. I will definitely continue to have lunch there. I just love the authentic and freshly made food that they offer.

As an American-Brazilian family, we're all about Brasilian cuisine at home. And in SoCal we know…read moreevery Brazilian, Latin and Persian market that carries either Brazilian imports or similar items, like 'President brand' requejiao cremoso, which you'll find at the Persian markets. So when one of our family group moved to the Jacksonville area, we immediately searched online for 'Brasilian Mercados'... either in town or in the greater area. And just to let you know, we're envious of our family now in the Jacksonville area. Well, if you're in the Jacksonville area and you've found Rio Bonito Latin Food Market, then you've also probably seen two other mercados very close. But after our family visited all three this last Sunday, we had to agree that Rio Bonito was the closest, if not a near copy, of a typical neighborhood market. Groceries, dry goods, frozen foods, and a very traditional cafe'-buffet where you pay (in Brazil por kilo), but here, by the pound. And with their buffet, If you load up your plate as I did on my second visit, and with the buffet line meats, and/or you add meat from their modest churrasco area, you'll probably be paying around $22 or so. I'm sure their prices went up this year to cover higher costs. Luckily visiting on Sunday, I was able to make a plate of feijoada, complete with rice, couve à mineira, vinagrette and farofa. During the week they have varying hot meat dishes, like ribs, chicken and ox tail (rabo de boi). I felt like we'd stopped at a small 'posto' (truck stop) on our way to Uberlandia from Goiania or Brasilia. And let me add that they also have a small carneceria complete with all the Brasilian meats and cuts you'd want for a home BBQ. My avocation is Specialty Coffee, and we do travel to Brasil reasonably often. So aside from focusing on coffee, (trips to Sul de Minas), I keep an eye on the retail markets, their inventories and prices. And here in the states I have an account with a West coast Latin (Brasilian) food and general merchandise distributor. So when we visited Rio Bonito, I could immediately see that their level of both dry goods and frozen was well above any other Latin market we have in SoCal, let alone in the No. Florida area. Knowing most master Latin food importer are East coast based, this makes total sense. If there's another Brasilian mercado with a more complete inventory of product in North Florida, I'd like to know about it. Bottom line, if you're a Brasilian or Amer-Bras family, and you're looking for 'your Brasilian mercado'... I'm reasonably confident that this is it.

Avoid this store! Don't waste your time and money on it. They sell food that either doesn't have a…read moredate on it, or is expired (in this case they would place a sticker over the best before date so you can't see it). I bought a box of chocolates and the filling was crumbling and tasted stale. It is supposed to be soft, creamy and smooth when it's fresh. No best before date was visible anywhere on the box. This is an illegal practice and should be either corrected immediately or reported to the authorities. The store itself looks so-so, with some shelves being half-empty, which looks like a provincial shop in a third-world country. The selection of products is very poor compared to other russian stores I've been to in New York, Dallas, TX, West Hartford, CT, etc. I don't see why I would go to this store again selection-wise. I wanted to buy some russian marshmallows and they were wet in the package - you could see some sort of a liquid on top of the marshmallows, right under the clear plastic package. Also, when I entered the store, I was almost knocked down by the cigarette stench. This was a HUGE drawback as you normally don't expect a food store being filled with cigarette odor and have all the food absorb it. This is quite uninviting. I was happy to leave the store and get some fresh air! The staff is friendly, however, and this is why I'm giving two stars instead of one.
