I love stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things- and this does include simple things like groceries! I love to cook, and love different grocery stores! We have a huge Indian population in my area and this grocery store is a wonderful spot for someone like me to explore a little different food culture! The produce alone is a wonder! Hubby and I pop into this store at least once a month to try different things. Tea, spices, produce, noodles and so much more. We are terrible and always grab a bunch of the little snack pack cookies too! The cashiers are always friendly and tend to ask if we enjoy the foods~ it's always a pleasure to shop here!

    Lots of well priced spices

Patel Brothers is a huge Indian grocery store. They are located on Ild Baymeadows in he same shopping center as Flavors, Koroush Market and Pattaya. The store is a great size and they carry pretty much anything you could want. Their selection of rice is staggering. They also have a large amount of fresh fruits and veggies. They have quite a few varieties of paneer and so many cold drinks. They also have a lot of jarred curries, pastes and chutneys. In addition that have massive amounts of spice mixtures for pretty much any fish you can imagine. The frozen section is along the whole back wall of the store. There are many types of breads, frozen entrees, fruits, veggies, desserts and ice cream. The store is clean and well organized. Just walking around it is very easy to fill up a basket and try some new tasty treats.

Stopped by out of boredom but I also needed some incense. Ended up sending like $75 on various types. Will surely go back as no one can beat their incense prices.

Jacksonville branch of a US chain store for Indian food and provisions. They have an ever expanding selection of organic products including rice, lentils and spices. This location has a large frozen section of veg and non-veg prepared items. Also a big selection of frozen breads (naan, chapati, paratha etc). The refrigerator section has a selection of sweets, paneer and yogurt. You can get large bags of rice, flours, lentils and beans. Pooja items are available.

The huge "Anime" statues(I suppose that's what they're called-I could be wrong)are for sale. Talk to management about the prices. I loved the Hello Kitty and Picchu toilet paper. I only bought the "Hello Kitty" tissues. So cute! I bought some soup and some hand lotion and a few other items. I did find the store's prices a little high, but I am on a budget. So everything is pricey to me. So, what do I know? Not much. I could have spent the entire day there. Pros: the cool merchandise. Clean and highly organized store. Cons: the young lady at the register was slouched down at the check out desk and did not seem like she wanted to be there. I could be wrong. Maybe she had a lot on her mind. But, when I checked out she was pleasant enough. Recommend? Yes-have loads of fun!!!'

Our new favorite…read more Coming from a larger international city with a huge selection of asian mega-grocery stores, we've been pretty disappointed by the options in this area. We've tried a couple of the local shops over the years and were mostly turned off. But recently, when we got a hankering for some homemade curries, marinades, stir fries, and such, we went on the hunt for something better and finally stumbled on Dinosaur. They aren't really "supermarket" huge, but far larger then the shops we've tried in the area. Plenty of shelf staples from a variety of cuisines, at decent prices. And a good selection of meats and produce that you won't find in the Winn-Dixies, Publixes, or Whole Foods in the area, and you can't simply order shipped from Amazon. As a "foody tourist" in a shop like this, I'm not entirely self sufficient. I can tell my galangal from my ginger, and my choy sum from my bok choy, but I still get lost trying to find or identify some things. The shopkeeper there keeps busy managing her store, and I don't expect her to play "tour guide," but she does try to be helpful and work past the language barrier when I come up with questions. The place is clean and pretty well organized considering the wide variety of foods and countries that are represented. A gold mine of exotic foods we can't find anywhere else.

I really am impressed with not only this European grocer, but the multiple European grocers located in Jacksonville, Florida. Most of our time was spent with the wife who is beyond knowledgeable of all of the different products in there. Either she herself has used them or she has customer feedback within a majority of it being her own personal experience. As an American-Brazilian family, we're all about Brasilian cuisine at home. And in SoCal we know…read moreevery Brazilian, Latin and Persian market that carries either Brazilian imports or similar items, like 'President brand' requejiao cremoso, which you'll find at the Persian markets. So when one of our family group moved to the Jacksonville area, we immediately searched online for 'Brasilian Mercados'... either in town or in the greater area. And just to let you know, we're envious of our family now in the Jacksonville area. Well, if you're in the Jacksonville area and you've found Rio Bonito Latin Food Market, then you've also probably seen two other mercados very close. But after our family visited all three this last Sunday, we had to agree that Rio Bonito was the closest, if not a near copy, of a typical neighborhood market. Groceries, dry goods, frozen foods, and a very traditional cafe'-buffet where you pay (in Brazil por kilo), but here, by the pound. And with their buffet, If you load up your plate as I did on my second visit, and with the buffet line meats, and/or you add meat from their modest churrasco area, you'll probably be paying around $22 or so. I'm sure their prices went up this year to cover higher costs. Luckily visiting on Sunday, I was able to make a plate of feijoada, complete with rice, couve à mineira, vinagrette and farofa. During the week they have varying hot meat dishes, like ribs, chicken and ox tail (rabo de boi). I felt like we'd stopped at a small 'posto' (truck stop) on our way to Uberlandia from Goiania or Brasilia. And let me add that they also have a small carneceria complete with all the Brasilian meats and cuts you'd want for a home BBQ. My avocation is Specialty Coffee, and we do travel to Brasil reasonably often. So aside from focusing on coffee, (trips to Sul de Minas), I keep an eye on the retail markets, their inventories and prices. And here in the states I have an account with a West coast Latin (Brasilian) food and general merchandise distributor. So when we visited Rio Bonito, I could immediately see that their level of both dry goods and frozen was well above any other Latin market we have in SoCal, let alone in the No. Florida area. Knowing most master Latin food importer are East coast based, this makes total sense. If there's another Brasilian mercado with a more complete inventory of product in North Florida, I'd like to know about it. Bottom line, if you're a Brasilian or Amer-Bras family, and you're looking for 'your Brasilian mercado'... I'm reasonably confident that this is it.
