I have to say, it was a bit hard to get ahold of him, but once I did, he was quick to schedule and come out. He was very upfront and honest in his verbal report about the foundation issues of this property, and gave a general price range for potential repairs as well as how long the current structure would last. Although we didn't end up purchasing the property, we were thankful for Jonathan's explanations and level of expertise on this matter that potentially saved us hundreds of thousands down the road. Jonathan came out to assess my property in early September of 2025. I had requested to have a written report of his assessment for an additional $200 cost. He came and gave us a verbal report of his findings and said he would make a written report and send that to us. A month later he had not sent the report and when contacted he said he had been "busy on the personal side" and would get it out to me in the next week. By February 2026, I still had not received the report and reached out again by email with no response. I followed up again by phone call (left a voicemail) in April and also left a comment on the engineering company's website, but as of May 2026, I have still received no response. He failed to provide agreed-upon documentation and ignored repeated attempts at communication. read more

The worst experience I've had with an engineer or contractor in my entire life. Jonathan was extremely terse and rude with me in our initial scheduling/calls, until it became clear to him that he was mistaking me for another client. Then, again, impolite and condescending almost immediately after arriving on site. Compared my building to a dog house. Made unsubtle veiled threats to me about what would happen if I proceeded with getting a recommendation from him. Sought three other second opinions from structural engineers out of an abundance of caution and they provided either a reasonable, tractable plan or recommended no action, all without the caveat that I might be ruining my life if I did business with them. read more

07/09/25 I'm writing this update in response to Jonathan's reply. I want to be clear that I never asked him to write a report, let alone to falsify one. My goal in bringing him onto this project was solely to assess the structural risk of the property in it's existing condition. He soon proved to be inept at providing solutions that would resolve the structural issue in a cost effective manner. At the rate things were going with him, he'd have had me gut the property and rebuild the entire house. That simply was not necessary nor an option financially. I sought out expertise elsewhere and was able to get my issue resolved at a reasonable cost. I've worked with this village to get several of my properties approved as rentals. I have *never* had a structural issue with any of the properties in that village. This was the first and I am very glad I pulled Jonathan off this project. He is a disaster for anyone who is looking for cost effective solutions. read more

We're in the process of purchasing a home, and our Home Inspectors recommended we consult a structural engineer regarding sloping in the basement floor. The explanation we received from the builder who gutted and rehabbed the home was that the slopes meet at a central point, which was a drain that has since been moved. We've never purchased a home with a basement (we're Californians!), and figured if we had questions regarding the sloping a future buyer will wonder as well. It seemed the best course of action was to follow through with contracting with an S.E. to have the property surveyed for structural integrity. We purchased a home and we were looking to remove arches/structural beams and replace with a beam to open up space in our home. We were considering purchasing a property on the north side of Chicago that needed extensive renovation--our inspector recommended a structural engineer to examine a few pieces of the property. I was referred to Jonathan through Domicile Consulting, and he did a fantastic job!! He was extremely thorough, ended up climbing through and around the current occupant's junk in a tiny space under some stairs, and sent us drawings of how the structure should be modified with nails in the future.
