I remained a customer after initial contact expired but did not renew. The energy rate while out of contract remained 16.5 cents per kw until last month. The rate changed to 25.9 cents per kw shortly after the billing cycle began, without notice. I changed providers yesterday and received my final bill for the higher rate. When I called to ask about this, the representative acted like he had gotten away with something because I wasn't under contact. AE Texas got away with helping me find another provider and without my business. This is a matter of fact account of my experience with AE Texas. I am only providing it for other consumers to consider. read more

They never turned on my electricity and charged me $34.00 for no service...... they even mailed my bill to the wrong address...... I fought this as much as I could, and just got tired of threatening letters, so I paid it and then reported them to the BBB. Be warned, they are using a different name now so please research before going with them..... And customer service is useless....... They have numerous complaints against them, even from employees that once worked there..... read more

I will try not to write 50,000 words on why this place deserves a 1 star rating but my advice is to choose literally anybody else. Cons: 1. No way to pay in person 2. No reasonable payment arrangements if you fall on hard times. 3. No escalation process to speak with a supervisor with any way to help with your account. 4. No empathy 5. Horrible customer service with very little control to offer solutions. Pros: 0. Ehhh read more

Poor Business Practices All my bills are on Autopay and they come out every month on the due date. Energy Texas just takes it out when ever they feel like it. Sometime the 1st the next month the 3rd or the 5th the bill is Due on the 7th so I expect it to come out on the 7th. Called customer service they were no help and then left me on hold for a very long time and comes back to tell me that there is not a Supervisor/Manager available for me to speak to but maybe some one might call me back tomorrow and if I don't get a call I should waste more of my time and call them back. read more

I feel completely duped by Energy Texas. I signed up as a new customer last week. I thought my Solar buyback plan was great. I just received an email today that the plan is changing to market rates. Why wasn't I told about these changes last week? I understand it was officially announced today but I know this has been under discussion for more than one day. Please shed some light Energy Texas. I heard great reviews which was one of the main reasons I signed up but now I am second-guessing that decision. read more

Do not put your trust in this HORRIBLE company. They do not care about customer well being nor satisfaction. Midway through my contract, they hit me, and apparently many, with a spontaneous whole company switch. Who would expect that in the middle of a signed contract? Now having to go through the stress of registering with new company, setting up new payments, getting familiar with new company and terms, figuring out how/if things transfer over. The reason we sign up for contracts is to avoid these exact excess stressors and tasks. The worst part is I had accumulated a large amount of stars/bonus points by always paying my bills on time, etc., was saving up to redeem for larger prize redemption, and was never able to do so before this spontaneous switch. Despite not being given fair warning about this and pleading with customer service for any kind of solution, they immediately said points were lost and nothing at all could be done. Short, no effort, apology, any way to escalate issue, or any sort of understanding shown. I literally see my points sitting in my account. There has to be something that could be offered or extended. I am left feeling very upset and cheated and having to now deal with new company that I did not sign up with. Will warn anyone I know to stay away from them as I now see how they function as a company with poor customer service and tactics that make you feel cheated. read more

They will keep moving you from one to another electric company. BAIT AND SWITCH Energy Texas deceived me with an outright lie in their email to me. Their email stated I had earned a $150 Rewards program credit towards my bill. I called the next day to claim and was told by a customer rep and by email that they can change the Rewards program anytime they want and will not honor the $150 credit their email stated I had earned. I believe this is an outright lie and warn everyone away from choosing them as this is dishonest business practice to entice people to choose them. See attached email. read more

Updated post 5 Feb 24 Energytexas.com is not your best choice for energy!   I reccomend choosing another company as they are deceitful and feel that saying sorry will fix everything without them actually doing anything. I subscribed to their power service in January 2023 with the solar add on.  I asked if the solar plan changed could I get out of the contract without penalty and was told yes.   Skeptical I took one year instead if three.  Then in March the solar plan went from a one to one credits to Real time metering. Also they stated high pay back during surge and the capped it low enough to be almost worthless. These changes caused my bill to go fom $20 a month to $100-$150 a month.  I called immediately in March when i received the bill to cancel and was told I would need to pay the 250 cancelation penalty.  WHAT? A few months later when it came time to renew I was told I could have canceled without penalty until May 1 due the major change and was directed to a new statement online.  Wait, What that's a contradiction to what i was told? Now when making my final payment I had saved up my rewards that they call stars and 150 stars allows you to recieve $50 off your bill. Well, I was told in the terms and agreement it states I am not allowed to use my rewards on my final bill, so the $50 credit will not apply and be lost. I asked to talk to a manager and was told it's policy and you can't apply rewards on final bill.   Really? Ok the rewards use might be in the terms, but for the hundreds of extra dollars they made off of me by changing the plan mid contract they could have honored the rewards. Beware of the terms and know this company isn't here for their customers, but only out to make as much money they possibly can. I reccomend selecting a different company. Original post 1Sep23 (2 Stars) After research I picked this company for their solar buyback. I signed up in January and the electric plan was competitive. I am lucky i only took one year, as the solar plan changed. The solar plan was one to one for extra and use, but then changed after a couple of months. The change increased my monthly payment an additional $100 or more monthly. The solar plan now basically charges me $.07 to $.10 per KWH I produce and use. They pay me less than $.02 for my excess and charge me the plan rate. When the change took place I asked about a plan change and was told the penalty would be charged. I learned my lesson. I reccomend researching and NOT using a company for solar that states the plan can be changed at anytime. read more

Bait and switch..no accountability to redeem pints, no integrity to customers on long term contracts. I was switched in 2023 after a year with them to discount. I thought they went out of business, turns out they just sold the contract, so discount power could increase the rate on a 36mth contract. Scum of the earth, chose a different provider. read more

I am disappointed in energy Texas. My bill was $633 last month dnd $450 month before . The mist kilowatts ever used prior to this was 2500. There reading of 5000 does not sound accurate. Even though I have a smart meter they can not tell me where the electricity was used. Other electric companies provide this information. The customer service representative had an accent he was hard to understand. Poor service no value read more

They trick people to sign up for 3 year contract and brag about 1:1 solar buyback rate. Only reason i signed contract with them is the 1:1 solar buyback. They secretly changed this to 3 cent /kwh on buyback while still charging 14 cent for electricity. They are fishy and scam company to run business like this. I noticed many people are trapped in same case. read more

DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING THEY SAY! Liars... plain and simple. I got a 3 year plan from them and they changed their "add-on" San-Jacinto Solar-buy back plan to math ERCOT's wholesale real-time rates... while still charging an ERCOT rate that is 172% of what they are paying us back. I get around $0.025 for solar buy back right now with their rates, while the rate they charge (only ERCOT's part) $0.043. At the very least they should give us their rate and not the ERCOT rate since that is what they are charging us - $0.0785. But alas, they are not, and they will now hold to what we all singed as a contract. I know they will say it is an add-on and we could have canceled at the May 1 date. Crappy company who is literally stealing from their solar customers. I would cancel right now if they didn't have that $500 cancelation fee... They knew what they are were doing. Bait-and-switch! DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING THEY SAY! read more

Energy Texas - June bill, after the change to their Sun-Jacinto Solar Buy-Back plan. - Electricity Suppliers Near Me - Houston, Texas

See all

I started a 3 year contract with Energy Texas in February largely because they had a "solar buy back" program that credited me the same rate for exporting to the grid as I was being charged for importing from the grid, (@7.85 cents per kWh). After 2 months they have changed that rate to the "average wholesale cost" rate, (@2.3 cents). They have also told me that although they have changed the terms of the contract, if I change providers I will still be charged the $500.00 early termination fee. If you have solar panels avoid this company. Complaint with the PUC filed. read more

Solar Buy Back Program-DO NOT trust. I was on Come & Take it 12 @ 7.2947cents/kwh. They won't do what it is on the contract, export: 7 cents (round up), import: 10.5 cent (round up) The customer service did not have enough knowledge about solar buy back program, they could not explain what was going on, did not have a clear information on this program, everything was vague. My solar system produce 10 times more than what I need. Still I have to pay for electricity that I imported from the Grid at nights. All the export to the grid during the day was gone, I received NO Credit for the energy exported, what so ever. Base on Enphase Monthly Report, I produced 1.4 MWh and consumed 99.9 kWh for the month of April 2023. I paid $ 49.92 to Engery Texas. This is a BIG QUESTION MARK, how is this happen? Where did all the ennergy my system production go ?????????????????? On the bill, it showed the Kw that I pulled from Energy Texas BUT nothing exported to them. read more

Don't look. Just run. Fancy website, terrible customer service, one-way communication, won't go the extra step to admit their wrongs. Signed a 3 year fixed solar plan with them earlier this year. What interest me was the fixed buyback plan they offered when having net exports at the end of the year. They changed their energy buyback plan (which in the contract was an option) just over a month ago to a variable market rate. Called them today after I had called weeks ago, left a voicemail, and never got a call back. Had questions over a bill increase. Was informed that they sent out emails over this buyback change. Was informed that I read this email. However after scouring through every folder in my emails...I never received this email. An email that waived an ETF in the event that I wanted to go with another energy provider. Upset that I never received this email, and never received a phone call back in a timely manner that could have opened options to waive this ETF. Unless upper leadership wants to remedy a situation, I'm now stuck with this energy provider for 3 years or pay a hefty ETF fee since I am dissatisfied with their buyback policies/decision changes. read more

They are the company that promised me a Guaranteed fixed-price buyback rate (the same as your energy charge) and then 3 months later, they reduced the solar buyback rate from 7.99 cents to 4 cents per kwh It will cost me $500 for the early termination fee if I want to switch to another electric provider. I have been with this company for almost 2 years and I have never been late on a bill, however, I made a payment of $95.00 on December 20th. The new bill became due on January 2nd, and I don't get paid until the 19th. I am getting calls like I am 3 months behind and threatened with electricity cut off in the next few days when the Arctic blast supposedly coming through north Texas in a few days. I asked for an arrangement for the 19th and was told not until half has been paid. When this contract is up I would advise NO ONE to use Energy Texas EVER. I will NEVER refer anyone to this company either. As of today, I am going to find a company that will PAY ME OUT THIS LOW LIFE OF A COMPANY. read more

to update on my previous review... after numerous more calls with customer service. I was told today I owe $206 ( last week was $65 verbally and I asked to show the bill, before I pay. they requested final bill hence today's call). I tried to point out to her the bill was erroneous, the bill shows usage from 7/8-8/1 the meter difference is 1142-1097= 45KWH (house was vacant) and the bill shows 437KWH, however customer service rep bluntly refused to listen nor to discuss further by starting "this is the final bill that you have to pay", or it will be sent to collections I was told by her last week. we requested supervisor call back. this is ridiculous... I have another account with them and I always pay my bill the first day it is generated. and this is how they treat their customers .... My first bill with this same account was paid as soon as it was generated, and now trying to revolve the remaining balance from 2 extra weeks of usage and I now owe $206 because I had a previous balance? where is that balance even from ?! Wondering if this doesn't get resolved, where can I dispute or report this ? read more

I would like to start off with I gave; Energy Texas the chance to reach out to me directly with a PM to them via this platforms service. This is the response I back on 6/15/2023 - We appreciate your feedback regarding your recent experience. Energy Texas has sold a small subset of customers to BKV Energy as part of a divestiture of a specific line of business. We have full confidence in BKV's capability to serve these customers effectively. Meanwhile, we remain in the Texas market, committed to rapid growth and serving the market at large. Regarding the solar buy-back program, we understand that there have been changes that have impacted your experience. We notified all solar buy-back customers via email on March 24th, 2023, that these changes would take effect on May 1st, 2023. Our updated buy-back rate now matches the market clearing price of energy, capped at your energy charge. After analysis of our solar buy back program which was in the market for less than a year, we determined the program was not profitable which would not have allowed it to run long term. Sincere apologies for the disappointment. To accommodate, we waived ETFs from March 24th to May, for anyone looking to leave & find another provider. Furthermore, we have introduced surge pricing, enabling our solar customers to sell back energy at higher rates during periods of high demand. We apologize for the frustration caused. We will have an escalations representative from our Houston office contact you once we locate your account. Energy Texas Care Team I responded back to them with this: I can respect and understand your need to defend the company and my correct my statements. I was going to submit an update to the review but I thought I would give Energy Texas one last attempt. I'll help you with my account number since you need to "find" my account: XXXXXXXX I was talking to yet another customer service associate and they "verified" I was never sent the infamous email on 24 March 2023; so I was never notified you would only buy back solar at .02 instead of the one-for-one I was told I was going to get. I was also never sent the email that explained I could leave the company with no ETFs; but I guess my account was over looked again. I did and are still receiving $25 credit to my bill, for wanting to change my provider. I was one of the accounts the company sold over to BKV but of course it was incumbent on the account owner to ensure "everything" was moving over. Incase you don't know, BKV does NOT support any solar programs. Your surge pricing is for anything "excess"; the problem with your "excess" comment is that nothing I produced went to my utilization at my home. It was explained to me that I have become a solar farm for you to buy my solar at a laughable rate and sell it back to your "customers" at a premium rate. I was also told by your customer care team that "ALL" solar companies are doing this and yet again, after just a couple of calls with almost no real research; found out that was not true either. I do NOT expect nor will I hold my breath to hear from anyone in the company (management) about my account, I truly believe thats just a hollow promise. I'm also not the one to keep beating a dead horse and my review will hold true; but I will say that if anyone asked about my perspective; Energy Texas will never make the conversation. I have yet to hear anything back, this is exactly what I said it would be; a hollow promise. read more

I've been with this company for 2 years. I have been accumulating points for gift cards for 2 years. I just went to redeem my 480 points and was told after the first 150 point redemption that I can only do 1 redemption every 30 days! My contract is up this month and I am screwed out of the remaining points. If I had known this before I squandered my 150 points on a target gift card, I would have used all my points on paying my final bill. The website should have something in BOLD writing that only 1 redemption is allowed per month. I would have started redeeming them sooner. Customer service said there is nothing they can do. I am not even earning points on this months final bill. They are a mess. Oh and renewal rates are triple what I am paying now. read more

Energy Texas is blood sucker for most customers and customer liked me, 77449 price for each month usage is going up all the time even thus I haven't been home lately, on May I was outstate for 24 days and my price is $ 244 and this month I was outstate working for 26 days and the price is gone up to $266 so what is wrong with this company which I will send a memo to consumer affair and perhaps I lawsuit this Energy Texas to court to see what is the Judge say reading this matter. If I could give them a zero I would. They sent no emails, texts or notifications by mail that my plan was up for renewal. Untrustowrthy, unresponsive, SHADY! They un-entrolled me from their solar buyback program when I renewed my contract for another year. I acted after the bill came back without a credit and left messages for them which were not returned. Finally got a hold of someone during their operating hours and they were not helpful at all saying I should've contacted them sooner (I did but they never responded!) I cannot recommend Energy Texas if you have solar panels, there are much better solar buyback plans out there. "we reached out through email and gave you an opportunity to switch with no early cancelation fee." I never either saw or received the infamous email they are talking about. They communicated that you could get out of the plan before the new changes on May 1st. So I cancelled my service with the last day of service on April 28th. Then I get my final bill and they won't honor the Solar Buy Back for service in April because they waited until May 1st to issue the bill...claiming that it goes by the bill date, instead of the service. This is a very technology forward thinking company. They don't have gimmick pricing strategies, like minimum purchase, flat fee pricing, or hottest days/nighttime use 'free,' while having super gouged prices the other remaining times. I've switched electric providers at least a dozen times over the past 15 years, and this is the only one I've ever left a positive review for. They offer discounts on your bill for paying on time as well as during high usage events, which are called 'Peak Perks.' I locked in my price for one year in January 2022, and having 2 electric cars, and a 2000+ sq ft house, my bill yet has to exceed $180 a month, (typically runs $100-$130), and I still have a $50 bill credit to apply that I likely will use on my bill come September 2022. read more
