I had a flat tire and was told it would take at least 7 days to fix and maybe more because I had the service plan and to contact the company to cover the repair may take longer. A flat tire takes about 15 minutes to fix. Dicks is not the place to go for bike repair.

This is a complaint and warning about Dick's Sporting Goods in Sarasota Florida. I was…read moreunfortunately misled into purchasing a product that is not legal in the league where I play and, when I returned it, would not be accepted for a refund or credit toward the purchase of a legal product. Just to get me out of the store, they suggested that I reach out to the manufacturer and ask them to facilitate the exchange. I was incredulous, of course, because one would never expect a manufacturer to facilitate the exchange of a product that was sold through either misguided or self-serving misrepresentation by one of its retailers. Indeed, I just heard back from the manufacturer who said that they will only exchange a bat with the defects. I am not even going to bother to take this back to Dick's because I know I would get upset and nobody wants to get upset about being ripped off when they're holding a baseball bat. The product I am referring to is a softball bat for the Senior League of Sarasota. When I explained what I needed and what league I was in, Dick's employee told me to buy a senior softball bat that is a certified 1.20. When I got to the first game in the league, I was told the bat needed to be a 1.21. When I returned to Dick's with proof of purchase and the bat in perfectly good shape (virtually unused) they would not issue a refund or credit. They said they would not do so because the wrapper had been removed and yet several bats were for sale on the rack without wrappers. The bat that I have is no use to me. I have since learned through an internet chat on the Dicks website that Dick's does not even carry the type of bat that I want, which certainly adds to the suspicion that the sale was made so the guy would get a commission or some kind of sales credit rather than send me empty handed to another store. I have been a long-time customer of Dick's and had even bought another product at the same time as I bought the bat. We often shopped for clothes. Now I'm going to give the brand new bat to Goodwill, spend $100 or more on the type bat that is legal for our league, and suffer the $89 loss that Dick's has foisted upon me. I had always Associated the retail chain with good customer service, a nice product selection, and a sufficient level of quality and service expertise, as well as product selection, that the higher prices are worth it. It goes without saying that I will never shop there again and I have spent the time, plus $89, to write this negative review and warning to you. If you trust them to give you informed service, to be accountable for their mistakes, and to stand behind you economically when you are counting on them, your trust is not well placed with Dick's Sporting Goods, at least not in Sarasota. I think we settled on a few good pieces including a Teeter Eliptical and a Professional treadmill since we will probably use it a lot. The sales guy ignored me, THATS NOT A PROBLEM, I wasn't there to be paid attention to. That's why I brought a trainer with me. I wandered around, listened, looked and learned and chose what I wanted. I was very happy to find a mini massage unit of my favorite targeted massager. It wasn't cheap but it never is, so I bought that right away. I started taking my health and fitness more seriously when I turned 40. That's when I started looking for a gym-quality "all in one" machine. I didn't want something rickety that would fall apart after a year. I was willing to invest in a machine I could keep for the long haul - something I would actually look forward to using. Dick's Sporting Goods and Sports Authority just didn't have the quality I wanted. Then one day my wife and I were lunching at Olive Garden with our daughter when we noticed a place next door called Gym Source. After lunch we went in and I spotted a machine I liked, called a Hoist V Select 1. I loved how compact it was, and it felt really well made when I ran through a few exercises. Joel Colson, the store manager, was really helpful and there was zero pressure to buy. I took his card and I said we'd take some time to think about it. The next day I called back and was able to purchase the machine right over the phone since I had already been in the store. The Delivery/Setup Crew was terrific -very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Joel also followed up to make sure everything was delivered and set up perfectly, which I appreciated. I also like the fact that they service what they sell. I purchased my Elliptical machine from Sports Authority and they outsource service and repairs. Nice machine, but I don't feel like I've got much recourse should I have problems. If you're seeking gym-quality equipment at home and want to buy from a reputable company, I'd visit Gym Source. I felt the price was reasonable, the service was impeccable, and should I ever have any issues, I believe they'll work with me to make things right. Given the choice, I would purchase again.

My son is right between sizes, so we asked if they could size him so we had a better idea of what would work best. We were told that there were sizing tools at most benches and to ask for help if we needed it. Dude. That is what we are doing. He walked off before the shock wore off. We did find a tool, sized my son, then found another employee for shoes in his size. He pushed a few buttons on a handheld he had and told us they didn't have it in stock then started to walk away. We stopped him and asked for another shoe in his size. Again he pushed buttons on his handheld with the same answer. He again tried to walk away. So we then asked if any shoe on the table we were looking at came in his size. He rolled his eyes at us before pushing buttons on his handheld. Yup. Rolled. His. Eyes. My son needed new shoes so just looked at shoes instead of using my big girl words about that behavior. Anyway... He found a shoe in my son's size and luckily my son liked them. We boxed up the shoes and went to the counter in the shoe area where two different employees were talking to pay. Set the box down and said we wanted the shoes. They both look at us like we are crazy before one stated "well, you have to pay for them before leaving with them." Pretty sure my attitude came out when I responded with "that is why my wallet is out." With just as much snark, we were told we have to pay up front. The experience had my blood boiling. We were there maybe 25 minutes, but it took almost twice as long for me to calm down. So if you come here, hopefully you have a better experience than we did. 29.01.2026

If you are in a pinch and desperate for a glove or ball or t-shirt, even a bike or kayak, go to Dick's, just know you will be spending a lot of money you shouldn't for something you can find elsewhere if you give yourself time to shop. They do have a lot of staff walking around, but their goal seems to be customer advoidence. So there is that if you expect you will need some help.

You will definitely be questioning your mapping app when you are directed here because it's somewhat in the middle of nowhere. This is a big warehouse filled to the brim with fitness equipment. And they even had another room of clearance items in the back! The man that helped me said their prices here would be lower than their online prices because shipping wouldn't be required. I figured he meant a few bucks but it's some drastic savings. I spotted something in the clearance room that I bought that was $50 cheaper. A small item I bought online recently would have been 50% cheaper if I had bought it in person. Valor isn't a third party reseller like you might expect. They seem to make many (all?) of the products they sell. The bigger product I bought with them was easy to put together and has held up well for several years. I really trust them as a brand. Don't think you have to be a hardcore fitness person to shop here. You could save money on something as small as five pound dumbbells. They also have a loyalty club. My Apple wallet triggered a dialog for joining their loyalty club when I pulled into the parking lot and I started earning points with purchases I made in person. I will definitely be back!
