What's the point of having insurance if they want $800-900 up front for your root canal? OH: nice office, etc. & so forth - FINE. But $800 up front & $250 if you cancel. Surprises like this are making me sick & tired of dentists. In response to your response: 1. You 'waived the cancellations fees'- why yes, yes you did. I had a communicable illness that involved coughing & sneezing & a fever, but thank you. 2. My insurance page does not show that the cash paid to you was applied to my bill which indicates that about $800 is still owed. Additionally, it states that bills weren't submitted to my 'other' insurer, either. An explanation is eagerly awaited. read more

"You need a root canal" is an unwelcome statement that usually evokes, if not fear exactly, at least high anxiety. It always has for me: what with all that excavation and rasping and filing. Newsflash! Dr. Priya O'Callaghan has completely eliminated that, to the point where I will almost surely look forward to any future root canal work (I never thought I would ever say that). Why? Dr. O'C is streets ahead of any endodontist that I've ever experienced. Those were all males (of course) and they very good endos but, Dr. O'C makes them look very old school by taking endodontistry to the next level. For example, I discovered that her Hayward office has all mod cons. Top of the line equipment, including: (1) a hand-held, low-power, X-ray unit for taking multi-angle images to guarantee accuracy of the work she is doing in real time and (2) an ultrasonic root-cavity cleaning system that atomizes and removes all remnant nerve tissue that could potentially cause later infection. No more rasping with 19th century C-files. In fact, the ultrasonic process was so relaxing it almost put me to sleep. Dozing off ... through a ROOT CANAL!? Unbelievable. It's the first I've seen of these new technologies and they make the entire root canal procedure much more comfortable and totally painless. Very importantly IMHO, Dr. O'C thinks like an engineer which, for me (as a scientist), is very impressive. She's the only dentist (let alone ANY kind of doctor) that ever drew a diagram to explain what had happened to my tooth and what my treatment options were. I'm a visual kinda guy so, the diagram made me feel very confident that she really knew what she was doing. After the procedure, she reviewed some of my X-rays to further explain what things had been done differently than originally planned. My particular situation (removing a gold crown and metal platform) was unexpectedly difficult but Dr. O'C navigated her way through it with the real skill. The staff are very friendly, good humored, and knowledgable. Dr. O'C also has a great "bedside manner" and sense of humor but, she's all business when it comes to the actual endodontics; and that's what you want. Yelp's 5 stars is hardly a sufficient indicator of my endorsement. No dentist is perfect but, when you find someone this good, you immediately want to tell your friends and everyone. This was going to include whitening as the dying tooth was basically was pretty brownish yellow. The entire process was great. I had a molar that needed a root canal badly, another tooth was getting blamed for the extreme pain I had been experiencing which is why it got so bad. Finally yesterday my Dentist found it to be a molar way in the back, 3 roots, 4 canals, big infection and it needed a specialist to fix it. I've met and had an appointment with Dr.Priya O'Callagham years before just for something simple but my dentist was on Vacation and I couldn't wait. I was really impressed with her, her tech's and front desk staff then and now. They are so professional, really knowledgeable, kind and gentle too. Beware! Please don't waste your time at this office. They're only concerned with money and don't care about your health. They even make you pay before your treatment! I went in for a retreat root canal with Dr. Hirose on February 11. I came back for a follow-up on March 10 to make sure I had no more pain, and I did NOT! Dr. Hirose said he'd check my tooth and send me to get my crown checked. For some reason, I was in his chair for two hours! Towards the end, the pain started, and he explained that he had accidentally put a hole in my tooth on my cheek side. He said it was nothing to worry about and that everything would be fine. Well, unfortunately, everything is NOT! fine. He lied on his paperwork and stated in his report that he had found a hole in my tooth that was already there, along with a small crack. The small crack was something new that I noticed in his report but he never mentioned it to me. It's illegal to backdate and falsify reports, and he did both!! The owner is so disrespectful and rude. All she cared about was my $900 co-pay, but she never showed any concern for me as a patient. Thank God I have a record of what happened. I left the office with my right side of my face swollen and in pain. I went to the ER, had a CT scan, and got a second opinion from another endodontist. My pain is getting worse, and my face keeps swelling up and turning red, I'm unable to chew on my right side because the tooth hurts so , I wake up with headaches and I have PTSD because of my experience. I put my trust in this dentist office, but they failed me. I was treated like a dog on the street. Every time I look at my face, I get more and more upset instead of taking full responsibility for what went wrong they chose to deny and ignore all my emails. The owner Stated I miss heard what he said when he told me that he accidentally put a hole in my tooth. I've been in a medical field 18 years. I report back to doctors, nurses and managers. Never have I misspoke regarding a patient chart. I most definitely will not be miss speaking regarding mine. Lack of Accountability!! But trust me they will be held accountable for his malpractice!! Recently, I required the services of an endodontist for a root canal. My regular dentist referred me to Endospecialists in Hayward and my provider was Dr. Scott Hirose. The office was modern and immaculate. Dr. Hirose was very professional and proved to be an excellent communicator as he explained in detail what would transpire throughout the procedure. The root canal was completed successfully with great consideration for my comfort while I was in the chair. Several days later, I returned to my regular dentist to have a crown placed on my tooth. My dentist and his assistant were reviewing the report and x-ray provided by Dr. Hirose regarding my root canal. I was very surprised by their reactions--they were so impressed by how skillfully Dr. Hirose had done the root canal! In addition to filling the tooth as might be expected, Dr. Hirose was able to fill two extremely minute root structures which were contaminated by the infection. My dentist said, "This is an example of an A+ root canal." The dentist's assistant (who coincidentally worked in the Hayward Endospecialists office for 10 years and knows quite a bit about root canals) said if she ever needs a root canal, she will see Dr. Hirose. I was referred to Endospecialist by my treating dentist. She told me she thrusted this office as I needed an emergency root canal. Endospecialist saw me the next day. The treating doctor explained my condition and gave me options on how to treat my condition. She was not pushy. They started the two day procedure immediately. The treatment team worked well together and they gave me instructions on how to deal with the possible pain. They also gave me pain medication. I have extreme anxiety when it comes to dentists (due to bad experiences) and have previously attempted to get my root canal done at another place (couldn't get it done even with sedative meds). I was seen by Dr. Siu and it was such an amazing experience! I was able to get through the whole thing and even smiled along the way. Everyone I've talked to said they had the worst pain the day after their root canal but I felt absolutely nothing. I didn't think it was possible to have a root canal that was essentially painless. The staff was kind and very attentive. I expected to feel at least a minimal amount of discomfort, but this never happened. When I got home, I felt a little sore from just having my mouth opened for an hour, but other than that I felt 100% by the next day.
