I visited the travel office in the Abilene Mall the first week in June and after sitting there completely ignored for over 30 minutes a young clueless girl comes out and says all the travel agents were busy but she was going to take our initial information and have someone contact us. She took down all the pertinent information and said someone would call within a week. I was like okay?? We were really excited to plan our trip to Paris but all I received was a promise of a call within a week. I asked if they had brochures about Paris or anything we could take to help inform us about prices/ accommodations etc. Unfortunately I was told by the young lady that they didn't have anything like that and she didn't know of anything online that could help me but that someone would contact me "really soon." So we left anxiously awaiting our phone call. Well three weeks went by and no one called. So I called the agency back. I spoke with Hester. She told me she found my info and was not sure why no one hadn't called back but that they had been really busy lately because this was their peak season. I told her that was fine but I was really anxious to plan our big trip to Paris. She said to make it up to me she would have me some options available by the end of the day and she would email them to me to look over and then she would call later that day to see what I thought. Well I waited and I waited and I checked my junk mail to see if she had sent anything. Needless to say nothing ever came and no one ever called. It is now 4 months later and I still have not heard from this joke of an agency. Thank goodness I booked the trip through America Airlines Vacations and got the dream vacation we had been hoping for. My advice- skip these clowns and go straight to one of the airlines. They were able to schedule everything and do it at an excellent price ASAP.

A couple days ago I had occasion to be in Abilene, TX, not really by choice as I was lost and…read moretrying to get back home to Arizona, but I did hear the wonderful old song "Abilene" by George Hamilton IV (from 1963!) on SiriusXM as I was driving aimlessly about Texas, a rather large state ("It's like a whole other country!"). My cell phone was not working, and I was rather rattled as I was an older woman traveling alone and these days that seems a bit scary, especially when you don't have a way to call 911 from the road. Also no one sells maps anymore. :( This extremely friendly, smiley, helpful young woman working in the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau was my angel in disguise. She gave me a Texas map -- for free! (they're ginormous like the state) -- and also an Abilene map and even highlighted it and gave me written directions to their local Verizon store so that I could try to get my phone working again. She even let me call home to tell my hubby that I was all right and where I was at and headed. Thank you, lovely person, in "Abilene, prettiest town I've ever seen/Women there don't treat you mean/in Abilene, my Abilene"! Forever indebted, Joan
