The first was two years ago, the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, and this last one as the Senior Executive Fellows Program, this last one a grueling and intensive month-long experience. Both courses are outstanding. The modified Socratic method of learning as well as the case study methodology of the school, lends to an optimum learning environment by the attendees. The faculty staff and guest lecturers were not only authorities in their particular fields, but in many cases, internationally recognized actors in the world stage. In both courses, the student body was mixed and carefully chosen to ensure the best experience for all. From foreign ministers and foreign government agency heads to high-ranking US government, non-profit organizations and captains of industry, the conversation and networking among attendees is undoubtedly the feather in the cap of a course of this nature. As in all busy institutions, the support staff bent over backwards to be of assistance even when it was obvious they were overwhelmed. And as in all cases, a bit of civility and a smile worked wonderfully with them.

I spent a week at an Urban Charter School Leadership Conference, and the atmosphere at Harvard University boasted of cockiness, elitism, and (believe it or not) warmth! they was actually an air of 'You are welcome here,' but it was wrapped up in 'No one cares!' Seriously. However, the Harvard Square was an entire different story. The stores, the merchants, the people, the openness...it was FANTASTIC. An eclectic mix of everyone and everything. It is a bustling arena of laughter, music, shopping and togetherness!

I'm not a huge fan of the HUHS on the business school campus…read more Pros: Extremely convenient, has fairly good hours, and can get prescriptions delivered to campus from the Holyoke center if the prescription was written by an HUHS doctor. Cons: I haven't once been accurately diagnosed. If you have anything more than a cold, they will send you to the Holyoke Center. They can't do basic things like blood work on campus, and the administrative staff has given me misleading information about what can be done on campus versus in Harvard Square. Really if it were in any other location I'd never go here in a million years, but what can I say, it's 5 min from my apartment.

Its accounting and finance programs are somewhat more of a priority than other areas of studies (given its reputation as a top acct/fin school, I can't blame them) however, there are a wealth of resources for each area of concentration. You will find dedicated professors who remember your name, and are passionate in and out of the classroom. The GB (general business) core curriculum provides students with the tools to become competent, capable and "on-point" professionals upon graduation (however, it's up to each individual to take advantage of this). The best word to summarize Bentley's education: Solid. By the way, what other school organizes a senior trip for all under graduates to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas? Yea, good luck finding one...

Now we are no longer referred to as Bentley College, or the singular Bentley as in the transition period. Bentley University does sound a little silly and outrageous when you consider the size of the school, but hey, they did beef up the library and introduce a doctorate program to get the uni status. I get it, Bentley is a business school, they certainly know how to market themselves. Had they called the school a university when I first visited, I probably would have laughed at them a little bit. To their credit, the new library is very nice and along with some added programs, I suppose they squeak into the category of institutions that are classified as universities. However, many of the ailing sports teams are still in some dire need of good leadership. Most importantly though, alumni and current students can be happy that the value of a degree from Bentley University is more appealing and valuable than a degree from plain old Bentley. Hopefully the new name brings better professors and applicants in the coming years.

Ha ha All joking aside, it's well worth a visit. I spent some time at the business school which is on the other side of the Charles doing a postgraduate course. Great school but kind of intense to be a student. I got PTSD from my 2 weeks at the business school. LOL It's a pretty campus and Cambridge has great bars and restaurants also. I took off 1 star because they wouldn't let us eat at the "Heights Restaurant" because we weren't students. Hey, isn't that discrimination? Ha ha Check it out!
