For incoming undergraduates, it represents one of the few places on campus (aside from Memorial Hall) where they will encounter all their peers, both in large lecture halls and the required lab sessions on the third, fourth, fifth and eighth floors. For seasoned undergrads, it's a place to write your overdue essay in the expansive computer rooms in the basement, a cheap café at which to cram for the upcoming exam and a central location at which to advertise your super-awesome weekend party or activist cause. For faculty, it's home to independent hard- and soft-science lab space, the location of the Derek Bok teaching center, and the site of any number of technologically over-equipped classrooms. Grads find refuge in the Science Center's 24hr computing facilities, its hive of humanity amidst the endless and solitary PhD process, and the huge student discount available in the Apple Store on site. Tourists love to hate the 70s chic of the building's exterior (rumored to be modelled on the Polaroid camera) and let their children play in the fountain feature out front. There's a library, a museum and some weird and wonderfully large old scientific objects across the lobby. There is welcome shelter from the snow in the winter. There's a mini-garden in the courtyard, an observatory up at the top, and in the Spring there's a farmers' market out front. The Science Center is not successful at performing all these roles to perfection, but it makes a damn good attempt at covering all its bases. For that, I give this place 4 stars. For everything else, there's Mastercard.

The Divinity school has several graduate programs, the two largest being the Masters of Divinity (MDiv) and Masters in Theological Studies (MTS). Students in the MDiv program often become ordained after graduation, though a significant number also go on to to PhD programs or to work for nonprofits. The MTS is an academic degree, and a large percentage of students do continue on to PhD programs, but many others choose to work in the nonprofit world, politics, or go to law school. As an MTS student, I know more about the program, so that's what I'll talk more about. Unlike MDivs, we don't have any specific required classes, but rather distribution requirements, including two religious traditions, proficiency in a language, and electives, in addition to courses required for the area of focus. The classes are broad ranging, and generally progressive leaning. Students have the opportunity to take courses at any of Harvard's other schools, and several classes are cross listed with either the College or the Kennedy School. Even with the economic downturn, HDS has made an effort to provide the best possible professors for students. Additionally, unlike most seminaries and schools of divinity or theology, HDS has a very strong Unitarian Universalist program, and just hired a professor whose work is specifically in that area. I'm thrilled to be a student here and would recommend the school for anyone with an interest in liberal or progressive Christianity, religion and politics, UU, or Buddhism.

He really goes over the material well and provides lots of supplemental handouts. if you don't study, everyone in the class will know because calls on people randomly and reads the homework grades aloud. Talk about motivation! Staff here are also friendly. I thought I lost my phone and they all wanted to help me (it turned out to be in the bottom of my bag, whoops). The computer lab always has seats available and you can print 20 double sided pages a day free! And the other day the lounge had free donuts and coffee! Only thing this place could use is student parking, but given the location that probably won't happen.

Ha ha All joking aside, it's well worth a visit. I spent some time at the business school which is on the other side of the Charles doing a postgraduate course. Great school but kind of intense to be a student. I got PTSD from my 2 weeks at the business school. LOL It's a pretty campus and Cambridge has great bars and restaurants also. I took off 1 star because they wouldn't let us eat at the "Heights Restaurant" because we weren't students. Hey, isn't that discrimination? Ha ha Check it out!

I always came here rather than my school's crap library when I had a paper, and still sometimes go to read lit criticism. They have EVERYTHING!!! I have always loved libraries and this one is among the best. I love walking up that beautiful pastoral green hill and I love that they are open practically all night. I just wish I could check out materials.
