A&S has a unique house style with lived in elegance that is unlike any other suit that you will own. I flew in from the United States and immediately had my measurements taken. After two fittings and two weeks, my suit was ready to take home. Now A&S actually makes at least two trips to the United States a year. On a side note, Fred Astaire apparently had his suits made here in the old Savile Row location. I had my suits made here before Prince Charles. Clothing made here will be expensive, hand sewn, and vastly superior to anything off the rack. or that trash from Armani and Ralph Lauren.

They have been around for about 100 years and have catered to some of the most famous Savile Row clients. Their house style is different to most other Savile Row houses (except for the A & S pupils that opened their own businesses, like Thomas Mahon or Steven Hitchcock). There isn't anything stiff or military in their suits, and in this respect, they produce a completely different type of garment as compared to the likes of Huntsman. They use a "soft tailoring" approach with very little padding, and their suits have natural shoulders and fairly bulky sleeves. The chests and backs of their garments are also quite drapy, allowing for better movement of your arms and shoulders. Unfortunately, that takes away from the clean, slick look that many clients are looking for in a well-tailored suit. However, if you have broader shoulders, this may be the way to go. Unlike many other Savile Row tailoring houses, your initial A & S suit usually only requires two fittings and following orders often also go straight to the forward fitting and require one single fitting session. Their head cutter, John Hitchock has a reputation for being a little stiff and not taking to much input from his clients, and therefore, as a customer (especially a new one), you should be very forward about what you want and what you do not want. Otherwise, he will do everything his own way, and you are stuck with what he thinks is best (which is sometimes the best indeed, but sometimes not at all what you were hoping for). Apparently, in the past, the A & S pattern matching for pockets or sleeves was less than perfect, but it has significantly improved in the last time. I personally would not want my business suits to be made in the soft and drapy A & S style, but for tweed coats or more casual jackets or overcoats, I quite like their house style . If you want to have a closer look at the A & S style, you can take the Prince of Wales as a good example. In my opinion, with his sloping shoulders and his fairly broad hips, he would be better off with a more structured type of suit, but he still regularly makes it into the "best dressed" lists. Well done, Anderson & Sheppard !

I purchased a pair of gun pistol cufflinks that are in silver and wood, and they're made in Australia. Most of the cufflinks in this shop are exclusive for Sir Tom Baker. I have met the gentleman, myself during one Saturday afternoon and we both a interesting chat. Sir Tom Baker seems to hire really nice, polite and hard-working staff.

All seemed to go well and Tom said that he would contact me in a few weeks time for a first fitting. The date of the fitting came round and Tom made some minor alterations to both of the suits - everything appearing to still all go well. Tom again said that he would contact me in a few weeks time when the suits would be finished. Eventually received a call from Tom to say the suits were finished and ready for my inspection. Visited his shop to try on and pay for the suits (please bear in mind this was only the 3rd time I had been to his shop - i.e. once to commission the suits and select the fabric, and the other time for a fitting). The suits were generally satisfactory apart from some further minor alternations that needed doing (i.e. the trousers were still too long). I explained to Tom that I was very happy with the suits and asked if he could adjust the trouser length slightly - this is when it all started to go wrong!!! Tom tuned to me and said that he was not going to adjust the trousers and that if I wanted them altered I would have to take them somewhere else to be done!!!! - surely the whole point of going to a bespoke tailor is so that you can have a suit made to your exacting requirements (something Tom has clearly forgotten!!). He then went into a further rage and shouted that he didn't need my business and that I was undermining him (all because I asked the for trouser length to be altered!!) Conclusion Tom is a complete twat who clearly has illusions of grandeur. So learn from my mistake - and do as Tom suggests - TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!
