a counter with a lot of items on it

End of the line is a cool souvenir shop in the mining town of George Town they have a lot of shirts, hoodies, and other souvenirs. They also have a counter where you can sit and get a home made milkshake made by and original soda jerk machine. Prices are a little high but that's to be expected in this area

Strawberry milkshake in a Coca-Cola cup

This one was the spot for me! I got a strawberry milkshake after I got done with a mine tour, and it was delicious. Took a little while, but the other staff wasn't helping the other guy while making other's orders. This guy is amazing at his job, and I would come back here if I could!

It's a legit original soda fountain.

Me and The Hubs were doing a leaf-peeping drive about a month ago through Guanella Pass (from south…read moreto north) and decided to try this place in Empire for lunch (we're just tired of the places in Georgetown and Idaho Springs). Very glad we did. Empire is just a short drive from Georgetown and about a mile or so off I70. (FYI we were here one day mid-week rather than a weekend). Anyway, this is a very small place with a menu of mostly assorted burgers, fried items, shakes and malts. There is a small patio with about half a dozen or so tables and some chairs along a long bar-like table that faces the street. Inside there are about four or five tables that seat two or three. After perusing the menu, I decided on the Double Burger with everything (except mayo and ketchup) and added cheddar. The Hubs got a Half Pound Bison Burger with everything (BTW, I think the person working the counter said that burgers automatically come with everything: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, ketchup, mustard, mayo). We also ordered fries, a chocolate malt, and a chocolate, peanut butter, and brownie shake! Everything was delicious, although I would say that the fries weren't anything special but they were piping hot and not overly salted (a plus as far as I'm concerned). The person at the counter was a bit aloof, but not unfriendly. There were maybe half a dozen or so people eating there at the time we were there and the food came out fairly fast (but not so fast that you wonder how they could have cooked it in that amount of time). The hot food was fresh and hot, and the malts/shakes were blended to order. We ate outside although it was a tad nippy. I did note that the indoor dining space was clean, as was the ladies room (The Hubs said the men's room was also in good order). So kudos all around!

Sweet potato fry lovers will be ecstatic! They're delicious - no sauce needed…read more We enjoyed bison burgers as we headed from the airport to Winter Park. A perfect local stop to welcome you to Colorado. We did have a cheeky chipmunk friend join our meal. They call him Alvin - he is quite bold (crawled right over my foot!) but very cute.

Next door to them is a fun little snack shop called Miyauchi's Snack Bar. This walk-up food stand was exactly what I was in the mood for. I wanted something affordable, quick and delicious. They had a line forming when I arrived because it was lunch time. Miyauchi's Snack Bar is mostly known for their homemade ice cream. But they also serve burgers, sandwiches and sides. I haven't had a patty melt in years and ordered one with onion rings. Most of the employees here are young folks and they were really nice. For seating, Miyauchi's has outdoor picnic tables that are available on a first-come first-served basis. I got lucky and was able to grab a table as someone was leaving. It was a warm day, so I had to get ice cream after finishing my meal. Miyauchi's Snack Bar has a variety of flavors to choose from. Being the coffee fanatic that I am, I ordered a cup of Kahlua-N-Cream. This place was great and capped off my fun-filled day at Grand Lake.

However, Higgles was definitely a step above, and I wish I could have regular access. I prefer Higgles' Honey Lavender to Salt n Straw's Honey Lavender! Their Pistachio flavor was also very good, as it tasted closer to real pistachio than artificial pistachio, which tends to resemble more of an almond flavor. I loved that there were tons of flavors to choose from, and I wished I could've sampled more, but they do have a 2 flavor sample limit per person. Very limited seating/standing room inside - most people just took it outside to eat. If I'm ever back in Breck or passing by, I will definitely stop by!

Their flavors were unique and the ice cream was i incredibly fresh and some unique. My husband's waffle cone was made while we were standing there. Two days later we went back and half the menu had changed (bonus for us)! Everything was still incredible! Hands down the BEST ice cream I've ever had! Don't let the line deter you- there is something for everyone!
