This local spot is located in the little historic Lenexa downtown, which is itself somewhat hidden away now that the Lenexa Public Market is open and draws folks that way. Coming to this stretch of suburbia feels charming and quaint, and I love that there is a really fantastic local coffee shop nestled into this shopping center. Now onto what makes this place so special. There are tons of great cafes in Kansas City, but what sets Maps apart from the pack is that they roast their own beans in house and they are all super fresh. You can taste the difference in the brew and it's a nice change of pace to have something a bit different since many of the local spots in town use the same local roasters. Once you find out about Maps you'll start to notice other cafes and restaurants that use their beans. It's not as many as say, Messenger, but Maps holds their own in this arena. They also make their own chocolate! And when I say make, I mean make. They actually make the chocolate bars and not just the candies. Even more impressive, it's damn good chocolate. Honestly, if you haven't been to this spot and have a love for coffee and/or chocolate it's well worth a visit. The cherry on top for me is how unpretentious the entire place is. You'll feel welcome, and the staff working will be happy to chat your ears off about their products. 5/5 for me!

I chose one of their seasonal menu items, a pumpkin spice latte, and was blown away by how good it was. The pumpkin flavor was nailed perfectly with the coffee. Service was incredible (for a fun surprise, enroll in the rewards program!), and the shop vibes are very relaxed. I'm looking forward to many future visits!

I recommend getting some of their water on tap (both still and sparkling water are available) if you have to wait! If you're queer like me, you'll likely be drinking a cold black coffee and they have options! They have a regular cold brew in 3 sizes, a cold brew of the moment / seasonal (ask about it!) and a cold brew shandy for something different. My partner and I got two different cold brews on tap today, the original and the Seasonal Single Origin Honduran one. The single origin Honduran was better, but their original was good too. There's a lot of seating, but it's usually taken up, so I tend to just take my coffee to go. Expect to walk out for around $6ish a cup. I was fortunate to experience Repetition Coffee at a recent Caffeine Crawl in Lawrence, where…read morefounder Amy Pope gave a riveting presentation of her business. It was the highlight of the day and probably the best of all the Caffeine Crawls that I have attended over the past 3 years. What puts Repetition into the top tier of coffee roasters in the area is their hands-on fair trade sourcing and their Righteous sense of community. Ms. Pope uses her skills from a former life as diplomat, her education in International trade and her passion for travel to scour the globe building relationships and partnering with coffee bean producers to find quality product and uplifting those on the farming end. The tale of her "Best of Colombia - #6" product is truly inspiring. The warehouse space that Repetition works out of is also sub-leased to other creative makers making the space a hotbed of artistic talent spawning pop-up events and small business incubation. You can find their products online, at the Lawrence Farmers Market and other retail outlets. I enjoy mine at Waterbird Coffee shop in downtown KCMO. A Righteous endeavor indeed!!
