The menu isn't extensive, and this is more like a sweet shop with cafe attached at times: it never gets busy, and isn't that great to sit in with more than three other people.

The Queens Cafe is a nice wee cafe too, with little red booths and an art deco set up that automatically makes you think of the 50s when Glasgow was littered with little places like this. The cafe is all but the same as it was when my dad was a young man, and the food, drinks and ice cream are all much the same as well. A few years ago the Independent did a list of the top 50 ice cream parlours in Glasgow and there was the Queens Cafe, pride of place in the list. Grab yourself an ice cream and take a nice wander in the Queens Park. A summers day gets little better than that.

With no sign of a food menu on display, I had to ask what there was in the way of lunch eating, whereupon they produced a hand-written scrap of paper offering only soup and a choice of two open sandwiches, both of them involving seafood and cheese. Not to promising as I don't do cheese.... however, they were happy to make something without the cheese so I ended up with a highly colourful smoked salmon and beetroot salad combo, artfully dressed with some pink sauce, together with a nice bowl of yummy soup and a Long Black. The sandwich was so pretty to look at I had to take a piccy, and even without the cheese it was a bit of a taste sensation. The soup was also very tasty once it had cooled down a bit from lava temperature, and the coffee wasn't too shabby either. So thumbs up from me on this new venture. Although it hasn't been open long I hope they survive as it's just quirky enough to be a favourite hangout, especially with the student flats next door. They could do with a more prominent sign outside though, as it doesn't exactly catch your eye from Dumbarton Road.

This place only opened last weekend, so I was keen for a nosey and went in with an open mind. It's Scandinavian/Scottish which I think is a pretty amazing combination and is tucked off Dumbarton Road behind the supermarket-that-shall-not-be-named. It's really easy to find if you're following the map marker on the Yelp app. It's a lot bigger than I expected - a beautiful open space, with a mezzanine and loads of seating. I was the only customer in around 12pm on a Thursday so I got my choice of seats - I actually found it hard to choose where to sit as everywhere looks so cosy. There's a super cute penguin nook, as well as couches, window seating and a vinyl corner, so plenty to choose from. There's also the mezzanine which isn't ready just yet, but will add even more seating/space to the place. I took a seat and ordered a coffee (I know!) and some cake. At the moment, the food is strictly cakes and bakes but they're hoping to have a chef starting soon doing some savory Nordic cooking. Yum. I had the raspberry and lime polenta cake with a V60 coffee. I don't normally drink coffee but decided I wanted to give it a shot here, because I like to live dangerously. They do Dear Green and the guy was really helpful suggesting that maybe a V60 was a better option than a long black for a rookie. I really appreciated that and really liked the coffee as it was nice and smooth, and didn't make me totally lose my marbles. The cake was excellent, very spongy, soft and also gluten free. I was there to get some work done - at the moment, they don't have wifi but they're expecting to have it by Monday 8 February - and I found the vibe in here just perfect. The music was ace, the atmosphere was chilled and inspirational and I was totally on cloud 9 as I was really loving live as I drank my coffee, worked away and ate cake. I'd been there for a while and a whole bunch of people seemed to arrive at the same time so it was great to see it fill up. It's very kid-friendly as there is a lot of room to move around with buggies/prams. I ordered more cake and this time tried the Copenhagen bun. HOLY SHIZ. Was this the best bun I've ever eaten? Yes, yes it was. These are made by Freedom Bakery and it was so pillowy soft and delicious, it tasted like it just came out the oven. It was so good that I actually got two more to take home with me. I have no shame. So all up, I really loved this place. It was great to try somewhere new, it has a lovely vibe and the guys working here are super friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to go back for another visit. Yes, I know this is one of the gushiest reviews I've ever written so perhaps all that sugar and coffee has affected me more than I realised. I had coffee here today and it was lovely a frothy latte in a tall glass. The Mocha Italian blend is served here and they offer to grind beans for you to take home. Many nice varieties of tea as well, plus luxury hot chocolate with marshmallows, cream and flake (wow!), and iced coffee. There are shelves on the left as you go inside selling various goodies, including dried pasta, biscuits, chilli jams, chutneys and other preserves. In the cafe you can have panini, sandwiches, tortilla wraps, salads, homemade pate, homemade soup of the day, bagels with imaginative fillings (including smoked salmon or banana and cinnamon); you'll find extra meals or snacks on the blackboard at the back of the cafe. Apparently, all produce is locally sourced wherever possible. There are milk shakes available and other soft drinks. There are shelves containing magazines and newspapers, which are free to read, on the left of the counter. I think the tables could be a bit nicer or, if not, then tablecloths would improve them, and the wooden floor is in dire need of a coat of paint as the black paint has mostly worn off and looks very scruffy. The coffee in here is lovely, and there are plenty varieties to choose from. I usually go for the latte which comes in a tall glass with cream, although I did go for a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows one day and it was marvellous too. They do a good takeaway service and get a lot of trade from workers in the area at lunchtime. Although i would say they are a little slow, so if you are in a rush then phone up ahead of time to pre-order. The cakes in here are also delicious. I recommend the 'lumpy-bumpy' toffee cake and the dime bar cake, both of which are simply magnificent.

Even the armchair seats are very comfy, great for lazing and sitting in there for hours, and hours! Also the staff service are amazing, when my niece have climbed out of her high chair, and accidently fell down on the floor and banged her head. The staff in the cafe had came to our assistance, and helped us. However, she have ensured us with first aid information. Also she went to the kitchen and brought us a tea towel covered with ice, to reduce the swelling. it was very thoughtful of her. Also the lady brought a free bowl of sweetie to cheer my niece up. The boards outside show a few interesting specials to tempt you inside - rose lamb hotpot with garlic bread, vegetable stew as well as some breakfast-type options of scrambled eggs. Inside it's nicely decorated - not too over the top with the Frenchness but there's a lovely chandelier, loads of seating, and a generally pretty cosy vibe. There's a deli section which has a chilled stacked with cheeses and meat, as well as pre-made croissants and baguettes. There's also a shelf of jarred French delights like marinated garlic, truffled mushrooms, terrine, goose fat etc, plus fresh breads, quiches and Christmas hampers. As you can probably tell, they've managed to pack a lot into this deli! I was keen to try the Croque Monsieur so asked to get one takeaway. They offered to heat it up for me but seeing as I wasn't going straight home I got it cold. They wrapped it in foil for me and gave me heating instructions which was handy. While I was waiting for my sandwich I gave into the temptation on the counter and grabbed a couple of pastries for £1.50 each (pastel de nata). Now - confession time - I did actually buy two of these and one was meant to be for my husband, but I ate them both. Woops. They were just divine, the crispy caramelised top was too much for me to resist. And I don't even have a sweet tooth. I also got a wedge of Gruyere (who can resist a cheese counter?) which wasn't bad value at £19/kg, and off I went on my way. Then when I discovered they sell one of my favourite French dishes ever, the humble Croque Monsieur, I knew I had to get myself down there. Popped in for a flying visit today and I definitely wasn't disappointed - it was bigger than I was expecting and was definitely a nice, cosy place to come into out of the cold! It was pretty busy considering it was about 3pm on a Sunday and had such a lovely atmosphere, really chilled out and just seemed like a good place to relax. I went up to the counter to place my order (to take away) and was told it'd be 4 minutes, nice and specific! I had a wee nosey while I was waiting and all the produce looks so very tasty. They had French cheeses and saucissons, as well as quiches, pastries, bread...among other things - mmm! The staff were very attentive and friendly, can't fault the service at all. The Croque Monsieur itself was totally delicious! I was determined to make it home before I ate it but I ended up scoffing half of it when I got in my car cause it smelled so good!! They also had the Moulin Rouge soundtrack playing when I was in which I loved, that's a plus for me! Definitely going to go back (hopefully sooner rather than later!) so I'll write an update on what the sit-in service is like too - can't imagine it'll be bad though!
