    MAHOOSIVE MERINGUE!!!

Ahhh Princes Square, a place I pop into now and then but rarely shop in (I did see a nice pair of shoes but... £420! MENTAL!). There are plenty of options for food here but we were in a 'quick bite' kinda mood so decide on Tinderbox because, a. coffee, b. cake. c. convenience. We managed to get a seat and after a quick check of the menu, I headed in to order. French Toast & bacon for her, Tuna Panini for me (once I'd decided). It's important to note at this point that whilst there is a menu, everything is pre-prepared so don't expect freshly made food. That said, the tuna panini was ok although I think it was supposed to have sweetcorn in it... that seemed to be missing, and whilst I've never really noticed before but when you order a panini and it DOESN'T come cut in half for you, well that's a bit of an annoyance. The french toast looked ok, although was a bit sparse on the bacon front and the bacon itself obviously wasn't ever going to be crispy (pre-prepared). The accompanying pot of breakfast tea looked and tasted like tea (I'm going to stop commenting on my partner's tea in future, it's usually breakfast tea, two sugars and milk and does the job of being tea...). My panini was pretty bland, not bad, but nothing special. The coffee, a vanilla latte, was ok but not as good as I was expecting either. It was also a little light on the vanilla, more 'hint of' than anything specifically vanilla flavoured. We did then split a bit of jaffa cake - that's a gluten free orange sponge topped with a dark chocolate ganache - which was delicious. I've not idea what it was made from, but it was wonderfully moist, slightly bitter from the orange and the dark chocolate was just the right side of 'not sweet'. In short, I'd go back for the cake, put up with the coffee and avoid the pre-prepared savoury offerings!

As part of Princes Square's 21st birthday celebrations this year they announced the opening of coffee shop Tinderbox in the mall - the 4th in the UK (with two of the others also being located in Glasgow). As a big fan of Tinderbox, I had to visit. As you would imagine in Princes Square, this place seems to have become even more luxurious the minute it set foot in this posh shopping mall. Brand new and so shiny, it still has all the nice qualities of the other much-loved Tinderboxes - great food and lovely coffee in nice surroundings. As expected, I love the seating here - a varied mix of little booths for two, tables inside near the counter or 'outside' in the mall on the balcony. It had just opened when I visited and so was very quiet but it's so spacious that I can't imagine visiting here ever being anything but a chilled out and enjoyable experience. It's a pretty mean feat when a chain (if four justifies a chain) of coffee shops can make each one seem individual to the extent that you forget it is actually a chain.

This Tinderbox is by the far the nicest of the Glasgow pair: upstairs seating, a large area with comfortable chairs and a sofa, booths for intimate conversations: all this, and the coffee seems to be far sweeter than at the Byres' Road branch. Since it is open until 10pm, this is the perfect place for a non-alcoholic end to an evening: not too far from either Merchant City or city centre, it is well stocked enough that there are still cakes available even at the end of a busy night. The prices are fair, the service good and the quality high. It is also very peaceful for most of the day, due to the size of the cafe.

Prince's Square may look great but it's expensive. Seriously expensive. Thankfully the inclusion of coffee chain Tinderbox on the prestigious top floor level has allowed skint students, plebs and those sporting deep pockets and wee arms the opportunity to dine with Glasgow's bold and beautiful. The cafe offers good tea and coffee options and a reasonable range of cakes, as well as a small selection of beers and wines. There are also some plain fare (and massively over-priced) sandwiches and wraps but the setting is the main reason for coming here. With a glass ceiling, it's an extremely pleasant place to sit at night, particularly if you can bag a booth on the outside with views of all that's going on in the complex.

    Nice seating

In the nice Princes Square mall Tinderbox have opened a nice cafe with plenty of seats. I am not sure if it is always as slow as when I was there but I did not have any problems finding seats here. The service was perhaps not overly friendly but they were fairly quick in handing our orders. Prices appear to be a bit higher than average in Glasgow but from a London persective it seems reasonable to pay £2.5 for a flat white. The coffee was not great the first visit, it was drinkable but with a hint of a metallic taste to it. I did however return for a new try and then it was good so still would rate it is good for any milk based espresso beverage. I would not go out of my way to visit but if I am in the city center and feel an urge for caffeine this would be my choice.

Lovely skinny cappuccino during Christmas shopping - just what the coffee doctor ordered :-)

Love their food but what I love even more, is how they help to feed the homeless and/or those in need. Whether you're a paying customer or someone in need, EVERYONE EATS THE SAME SOUP! Bravo!!! The Wild Olive Tree is located on Nelson Mandela's Place, inside the St. George's Tron Church of Scotland. The lovely cafe is on the main level. You walk in and get seated for table service; or you can order takeout. This is not a Soup Kitchen per se, but if you're a person of need, you can enter via a side door for free soup and hot beverages to go. They have been in operation since 2015, and in their first three years of operation, have given away 12,000 meals and 13,500 hot beverages! Again, BRAVO!!! All profits and donations from the Cafe go to their two charity partners: Glasgow City Mission and Bethany Christian Trust, to support their ongoing work with some of the city's most vulnerable people. The charities also help with work placement and employability training. How awesome is that?!?! The team at The Wild Olive Tree consists of paid staff, volunteers and work placements. This team of people are awesome! The food is homemade and delicious, customer service is so friendly, and they're so thankful for your visit. If I lived in Glasgow, I'd be a regular customer for sure! If you're ever in Glasgow (down the block from George Square), please stop by for a gigantic bowl of delicious homemade soup and scones...you'll be so glad you did!

I had the eggs Benedict, which was the perfect portion, cooked to perfection, and left me wanting more. The sauce was light and mixed with the egg in a way that was just indescribable. The French toast with bacon offered a great mix of sweet and savory. Syrup was available if you wanted it, but honestly, you didn't need it. My wife had the fluffy scrambled eggs, creamy, cheesy, served over toast with bacon and hash browns. This is something she gets often, and she has had none better than the ones here. The service was excellent. It's not the biggest restaurant, but the tables seem to move fairly quickly, and they have outdoor seating on warmer days. The whole experience was a delightful way to start our day. So if you happen to be in Glasgow, Scotland, you have to check out the Wilton Street Pantry, you will not be disappointed!

The reservation that we made was worthwhile as they were booked past 1 PM when we arrived at 11:30 AM. They offered a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated inside and attended to right away. Our server was excellent the entire time we were there. The menu was condensed with some tempting choices. My wife opted for the Avocado Toast, which was loaded generously. She enjoyed it quite a lot. I tried the marinated cherry tomatoes, prosciutto, mozzarella, rocket, pesto and smoked almonds on toasted sourdough. I was likewise happy with my selection. I can also report that the coffee was very good. My wife had a Macchiato and said it was quite nice as well. Including the food, drinks and a small tip, the total bill was £36. At £18 per person, this was not cheap but I had no problem with the value. The experience including the food, the service and the vibe all added up to make this worth the cost. If we're in Glasgow again, we'd be happy to do brunch here again.

They're about the same size and always packed, and huzzah, their sandwiches are delicious at both locations. I had walked by a few times the day I finally popped in for a late lunch, as they were swamped the whole lunch rush. I managed to squeeze in to the queue around 2pm and I could tell they had just been through the ringer with the lunch crowd. The guy ahead of me wanted a chicken tikka sandwich but they were out of a couple of the ingredients, so he ordered something else. When it was my turn to order, the guy jokingly said 'let's see if I'm able to make your sandwich!" I ordered the Chiken Ole which was chicken meat, manchego cheese, chorizo, salsa and a spicy mayo on ciabatta. The only one thing they didn't have was the salsa, which in exchange they offered me a bit of salad with some sweet chili sauce. I decided against the sauce and took the salad! What a delightful sandwich this was. My stomach is growling just thinking about it! The bread was freshly baked and so delicious, even at 2pm. The ingredients were all fresh and piled high in to the bread. I also grabbed a bag of crisps and a lemon mint san pellagrino. The greatest lunch on the go I've had in a long while. The guys in here were cool as anything and the music was great. The queues might be long but the sandwiches are worth it. They also serve soups, coffee and baked goods if you're looking for something sweet. I will be back for sure!

I've visited the other two branches and I've always enjoyed what they've had on offer. I had been a busy wee bee in town and decided a cheeky wee break was needed. It's located at the window, so you can watch the busy town goers whizz on by. I noticed that they had 'Not Coffee' options, so for me a non-coffee drinker, I wiz pure like yas. We're a rare breed so it was nice to see so many options available and not only in hot drinks but in frapps as well. A Steamer, hot flavoured milk drink, was on the menu so I ordered it in caramel. Didnae get me pure steaming but definitely heated me up. Hehe!! I also had a chocolate type croissant thang, I can't remember it's proper name but it was delicious. The staff were spot on, I got my Steamer at the end of the counter and found myself a comfy seat and enjoyed. A nice environment in town for a treat and to gives the legs a wee rest.

This Tinderbox, situated on the 1st floor of Paperchase, is now my go-to coffee shop if I am in this part of town and looking for a cafe that is cosy (and pretty cool) to sit in. Another thing I like about this particular Tinderbox is that it stays open until 7pm (8pm on a Thursday) most nights, which is really good for a coffee shop as most seem to shut much earlier. There's a reasonable amount of varied seating ~ you can choose cosy booths, high up table, wee lower table, a sofa or window tables. The window tables seem to be the most popular as they have a cracking view down onto Buchanan Street below. Also they have a good mix of small and larger tables too. The shop itself is very bright, colourful & mostly pretty jumpin' so this isn't maybe the best coffee shop to sit in with a hangover or to sit quietly with a book...although I'm sure at certain times of the day it does quieten down a wee bit. Staff are always friendly and helpful. One day after only taking 1 sip of my flat white I accidentally (clumsily) spilled it all over the table (ooft), I felt so daft & had to ask a staff member for a cloth to clean it up to which she thankfully laughed at (in a knowing, 'we've all been there' kinda way) and then swiftly came over to clean up, before I even got a chance to apologise (again) she said 'Flat white wasn't it? With soya milk? I'll get another straight over to you' Wow. That was SO nice of her. Not only did she get me another coffee (For FREE; I didn't expect them too!) but she also remembered/knew what I was drinking when it wasn't even her that had took my order! I was mightily impressed. THAT is really good customer service. The choice of coffees/drinks here is really good ~ there's something for everyone, be they a coffee drinker or not. I stick to the (soya) flat whites or cappuccino's as they're my favourites. Soya milk is also at no extra cost which I like. On a more aesthetic note I rather like their take-away cups ~ they're a corrugated cardboard of various shades (depending on which size you have) with 'Joe To Go' written on them. I like this as it reminds me of Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks every time I read it :-) Food wise I have only ever partaken in the sweet treats here. Everything looks yummy but I can recommend the Empire Biscuits, Portuguese Custard Tarts and the cakes (cupcakes). All very tasty. Since they have introduced the bonus of a cheeky free coffee every 7 days for any Paperchase card holders I have been in here more than ever. It's a great idea and it really has made me visit here & buy more stationary than I normally would have! Haha! Clever clever people...
